you ever swear this game off? i went into early retirement last week..then came out 3 days later...its frustrating sometimes...i hate not being able to play as well (or even better) than i can.....

its annoying....to be good at something and not be good at it!

i have played in 5 tournements in the last 5 weeks!!!!

results

2 and out!

not just once....but 5 TOURNEMENTS IN A ROW...

2 and out!

maybe i have a focus problem or something...

these are small tournaments race to 2 and i am playing against some great players......

but....i have had chances......someone misses and ...then i dont capitalize...

how can i start to take advantage of these and actually win?

so instead of swearing off pool ...i have decided to swear off playing like a loser!!

Been there done that many times, in fact I'm in a nasty slump now. I may say it from time to time, but the love for the game will never allow me to quit. I guess it's best to have a positive attitude and realize that everyone hits these slumps (including the pros). Another good idea is to have a qualified instructor watch you hit some balls to see if they can spot a problem assuming you don't really know what is causing these slumps.

i have the same problem ...
1. even if ur playing like dog crap make sure u do the same thing every time it will help u loads in the long run

There will come a time when you just wont put up with losing anymore and then you will make the adjustments to become a winner and then once u become a winner, you will feel what it feels like when you are winning and then you will never accept losing ever again, not that u wont never lose again ,because u will, but the difference now is that you are playing pool with a winners mentaility and you are exspecting to win, this will make all the difference in the world and u will win a lot more then u will lose with this mind frame, good luck!

For the first half of this year, I was playing on 1-2 tournaments a week (small, local games). Some weeks, I couldn't miss...others I couldn't make a shot. Same tables, same opponents.

When I was having an off night, I would analyze what was going on. Usually it came down to a stoke issue or a focus issue. Thinking about the games after, I would realize that I wasn't really looking at the object ball the way i need to, to make it consistently. Yeah, I was looking at it, but not really focusing on it. Usually these were on days where I either had a really crazy, busy day at work or was just overly stressed/tired for some reason. It was like I was playing the game distracted.

One thing that happens to me, is if I am not really focused, I fall into an outside-in stroke (I don't stroke straight...my back hand moves slightly to the outside and then in as I follow through. This really affects my ability to make longer shots. If I am missing shots I know I should make, this is one of the first things I check.

On good days, I was more focused. Stroke is straight without trying and balls drop.

Unfortunately, for me, I couldn't adjust on those bad nights to make things better (not sure why). I'm working on that.

Good Luck

Misses, like mistakes in life are your teachers, remember them, go back over those moments, within them lies your answer.
Pros who lay off for a long time deal with these same demons.

jcpoolgod...You're a YOUNGSTER! Stay in school. Get a good education, so you can get a good job. THEN you'll have $$$ to toss down a hole playing pool. Heck, you might even save up enough to get those lessons you've been asking about...which would likely go a long way towards "fixing" whatever your problems are. JMO

What he said. No education = working your butt off for the rest of your life trying to eek out a living.

I think the problem is your avatar name, change it from jcpoolgod to jcpoolgood and you will have no pressure to play like 'god"...jmho and no need for payment on that lesson but the next one will cost you. GL on finding yourself....lol

I swore the game off, but it wasn't because of frustration. 12 years ago I got a DUI. When I finished up with the courts I told myself that if I get caught driving it will not be leaving a bar and that is how I quit pool.

Ten years later a guy called me up asking me to play for his team and I went just for fun. Two matches of losing and I was full bore back into the game. To this day I wish I went straight back to the game when I got my license back, but at the time I was powerlifting, skiing and playing softball.

Yea, I'm disgusted with myself too...

I played my first big tourny in quite a while...and didn't pocket balls the way that I can...

...so, I'm going to have to get back to work...and hopefully show up with a stroke and some focus...next time...I gotta keep on tryin!!!!!

I find that the more "life pressures" I have, the worse I play. When the bills are paid and I'm not worried about getting laid off, I shoot much better. When the tax man is chasing me...I can't seem to make a ball.

doing much better

so i solved this....i went down a level...started playing weaker tournements agaisnt weaker opponents...i started winning.....and all of em....then eventually when i went back to the other tournement i placed there too.....im playing in 3-5 small tourneys a week...im beating good players and not so good players....i have a big tourney coming up this week...i feel confident....im playing alot better...and im getting "used" to winning....

my goal is to win the north idaho 8 ball tourney
