Us 10 ball out of griffs ..nice reminder for the match room complainers

In CO last yr at Piazza's.... a first, the Calcutta total was over $51,000 for a bar table 96 player event.
Never in my past 50 yrs here has CO ever had more than 16K in the pot.
I talked to a guy who went to that. Did Piazza’s used to be Patrick’s? I remember when Patrick’s was new and I played some pool there. Long time ago and I haven’t been there in forever. Sounds like a great event

80 players did not cash. Only 16. That was a first with that large and event.

What event are you talking about? Perhaps you mixed up recent events:

The Las Vegas Open had 96 players, with 32 (33%) in the money.
The World 10-Ball had 64 players, with 16 (25%) in the money.
The US Open 10-Ball Championship had 63 players, with 16 (25%) in the money.

unfortunately not, that would have been better. template rack, alt break, i think 4.5" pockets.
Bad move by the promoter of this event. These guys play way too good to give them an option after the break. "Take What You Make" can create a problem for them after the break.

I wish the chat weren't hard-wired into the stream. If you want to see the chat, you can just look at the chat section.

it isn't hard wired in this event. that and the booth camera is for the most part absent

in his hardtimes streams they are always there though. i've understood it's a generational thing, that comes from the gaming platform twitch. i've seen it too, thousands of people watching a big southern guy yapping while playing a car racing computer game. the chat donated too, i think he made good money doing this. totally foreign and bizarre for me

There is a simple way to make 8-Ball more competitive and interesting at a high level. On the shot immediately following the break (when in a rotation game a roll out would be allowed) the player at the table elects to SHOOT or PASS

If he chooses SHOOT, opponent assigns suit
If he chooses PASS, he assigns suit to opponent.

it's not a bad idea! but how would it effect break strategy? safe-ish break and choose PASS or the smash break and possibly have both suits open to negate the opponents choice? have seen plenty of almost perfect breaks in this events with both suits playable.

i think the WPS events had it tuned pretty well with a reverse break box and take what you make, tight pockets.

People need to stop talking about pocket size like it’s something you can just flip a switch and change. This event is played in a pool room. The tables are there before and after the event. The pockets are what they are.

I guess I don’t understand “the game is too easy” argument. Every match has errors. Sure, they are few. But we are talking about the best players on the planet. No matter the format that’s going to be the case. But they are still very much human and make plenty of errors.

If you wanna see less break and runs then get rid of the template rack, and you’ll have your wish.

Alternate break is absolutely the right way to go at the highest level imo. It makes for much more competitive races and both players have an equal chance regardless of the coin toss or lag. Closer matches, more drama, more pressure at the end of matches due to closer scores.

Didn't read every page, so i apologize if this was already mentioned... Shot Clock on every match... or total time a player can be at the table (as in speed chess) would go a long way to resolving the run out after run out... give them enough time to plan, and they are good enough to figure it out... put them on the clock, and sometimes they start to miss.

Watching Vitaly in the 10b, i thought i was watching 1p... and honestly, the time between shots in some of the 8b racks, i felt the same.

just my $0.02

I think they should play 'Un-standardized Biker Bar' rules with a MMA-style 1rd. cage match to decide any hill-hill matches. ;)
If nothing else, it may bring Hatch and Morris back into contention.
We may even see Pacquiao and Rogan make their professional pool debut.

ETA I didn't see your hill-hill prerequisite.

AtLarge says that the games ended in one inning 85% of the time. I think that "take what you make" will not make a big enough difference for this level of player.

get rid of the template rack as said. that is ruining pool.

wooden rack with balls put in with rack on the rail and one push forward with the rack and one push forward on the balls and then that's it.

The chat is a necessary evil on YouTube. The algorithm massively rewards engagement vs passive viewing.

Anecdotally this event is great for creating pool fans. Some folks who play in my local room were in town for the USAPL ten ball team event at the Rio. They spent some time at Griff's and came back giddy about how close they were to the pros and how accessible the event was. Some of them sought out the stream for the first time.
