Looking at the website, first place pays $60K. Is that the highest in Open history (or if paid, the highest actually paid)?

Does anyone know how to sign up? Or whether there are spots left? I'd like to play but can't tell looking at their website.

Agreed that Atlantic City is a step down from Vegas, but, if you've never done it, walking on the Boardwalk is actually a very nice experience, and September is an awfully good month to do just that. For those that enjoy the beach, the Atlantic City beaches are nice enough, and September offers good beach weather. For those that like shows (comedians, musicians, musicals, etc.), Atlantic City will have a lot of them, although not as many as Vegas.

Of course, for me personally, I rarely leave the host hotel when I go to a tournament. I recall returning from Derby City one year after nine days in the Louisville area and someone asked me "how was the weather?" My answer was "I have no idea, I never went out of the hotel other than in transit from the venue to the airport."

Gambling came to Atlantic City in the late 1970's, while I was doing my undergraduate degree at University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, just a one hour drive from there, so I remember Atlantic City at its most exciting. I've only gone there about five times in the last thirty years, however, so I'm looking forward to getting back.

Although I loved Manadalay Bay in Vegas for both the Mosconi and the US Open, there not a doubt in my mind that it will be a great experience attending this event in Atlantic City. I went to the "Legends of Pool" event in the mid-1980s to see Crane, Mosconi, et al, which was also at Harrah's and it was a good venue for pool.

I'm keeping an open mind here.

So now with Dazn, those who aren't skinflints, if they signed up at Mosconi Cup time, they would get the MC, WPC and the US OPEN for $99 plus a crapload of other sports. Glad i signed up-Even though AC is only 2hrs and 15 minutes away for me, Id rather watch it on the big screen 15 feet from my refrigerator.

The way I look at it, the more high dollar pro events that are being held the better. And the fact that so many of them are right here in the USA even better yet. There are enough high quality ($$$) tournaments today for a top player to make a decent living and that's a good thing. When all these junior players see the money being awarded in these tournaments, that can be an added incentive for them to work hard at the game. And with the advancements in the Junior International Pool Tour made by Ra Hanna they now have a place to hone their talents. I suspect we will see some new and great young players coming out of the junior ranks in the future. I'd like to see the talent level here equal to what we see in Europe and that may now be a possibility.

As far as i know-Yes!

They have better Sponsors, Dazn and TV money to help pay the increased amount and still make a nice profit I'm sure..

I mean, if you really want an $8 cup of coffee and a $30 burger and fries I’m sure it can be found in Atlantic City. I was fine with Vegas 20 years ago when rooms and meals could be had for cheap, but now that the prices on both have become insane there’s zero benefit beyond the “prestige” of having it in Las Vegas.
I would call that "false prestige" honestly... Anyone that's been to Vegas more than once has been there done that, and sure there's a wow factor the first time out, but that pretty much it.

Totally get the EastCoast'rs point of view. I've heard its gotten better in recent yrs but i'd still never go back. IMO more people would go to Vegas for this event than AC. I'd rather go to Pat's event if i'm going back east.
...or maybe there would just happen to be more people at Vegas willing to view the event...? Travelling is travelling, and unless you have a preconception of where you going then it really doesn't matter. We're not talking Somalia here....lol. I've never been to that chunk of the States. Not saying I'm going, but I've done the Vegas thing to death, so the change in venue is actually enticing.

I've never used 'Atlantic City' and 'enticing' in the same sentence. This 'marina district' was not in play when i was there so maybe its nicer. Couldn't be any worse.

This part of AC (Borgota area) is nicer than the strip and has better weather. The Borgota is comparable to any of the nice hotels in Vegas (Mandalay) and better than many. The main difference is Vegas has 10+ fancy hotels and AC has a couple. And it's easy to get cheap direct flights into Vegas.

If you're there to play or watch the event, why does it matter what state it's in? The event will be 2nd to none with Matchroom hosting it.
Easier to get to Vegas. AC is about an hour from any Airport. It's also a dying/dead city.

Humans dont belong there and animals know better. The first time there i drove 60 miles to another town and back, stopped 2 or 3 times along the way. I saw one sickly looking squirrel and 3 vultures total.

Atlantic City allowed poker in their casinos beginning about 1992. That’s about when I started playing pool, but I didn’t start going to a serious room until about 1996 or 1997. I heard from all the Philly locals that had been around for a decades and I became friends with (in the late 90’s) that all the action moved from the pool rooms to the casinos as soon as the poker rooms opened.

Read post #1 again.
The first post didn't address my question. I just scoured their website again and read their press release. I can't find any information about whether they have openings to play or how to register. If I missed something can you be more specific?
