US Open 9-Ball, 2023, Atlantic City, Sep 25-30

My point since the very beginning.... this is becoming like Snooker. !!!
No, that wasn't your point. You complained about the 4" pockets being "like snooker" not that people have to qualify so Matchroom can put out a quality product that people will watch, which will/should bring in advertiser dollars and at that point the top 16/32/64/128 can make a living playing pool.

I'm glad you love pool as much as the rest of us.

Putting bangers against the top 50 fargorate(the top 100 are 779 fargorate and above) and there's little chance any of them has even the remotest possibly of winning, why would you want to present those people to the public? Do you think that is a good product to sell?

I watched briefly and saw him pound a full table shot in at a million miles per hour to stun over for his next ball. Impressive stuff on such tight pockets.
Earl doesn't seem to pay any attention to pocket size. In one of CW's 14.1 events a brand new Rasson was installed half way into the tournament as the TV table. By some miscommunication, the corner pockets were small and the side pockets were smaller(!). Mika and Zion Zvi were the first match on the table. Neither could run 30 balls. Next match Earl ran 135 and out.

4" pockets are NOT like snooker. Anyone who thinks so can't play a lick.

Earl doesn't pay attention to such things when he plays well... When he plays bad tho... :ROFLMAO:

I've got nothing against league players entering the Open. I only wish that there was a minimum Fargo score requirement for all matches on Tables 1 and 2. If the lower ranked players can survive into the last 64, then and only then should they get streamed.

As a certified 79 year old cushion beater, I actually prefer playing on tables with smaller / tighter pockets, because it forces me to concentrate better on fundamentals. Our local weekly tournament has 2 tables out of 8 with smaller pockets, and I'm always asking to have my matches put on them, because when I run a rack on those tables, I feel as if I've actually accomplished something. Playing on slop tables is like playing in handicap tournaments. What does it prove to beat a superior player if you're getting games on the wire?

Unfortunately when you seed tourneys. Youre purposely making the early rounds full of lopsided match ups. So it's either show top players steamrolling or start the coverage on day 3

Maybe not...but there's a point where they do get so small that it becomes more of a cueing contest LIKE snooker than a game of pool. 4 inch pockets with fresh cloth doesn't get us there though.

I do wonder where the disciples of snooker and pool converge. Is there a game, table size, and pocket spec that would give the snooker player the advantage on an American style table?

I think we saw a glimpse of this years ago when Stuart Pettman made playing 14.1 on a 10 footer look easy for someone with a snooker background.

If Matchroom continues to grow their tour, I think we will see more snooker players, outside of the top 16, make a serious go at pool. Especially since the break is now more of a controlled forceful hit, than what it was in the past.

Day 3 was a dandy here at the Open and there aren’t many Cinderella players that reached Stage 2.

This equipment is so difficult that only a few have been able to runout constantly and the number of times the guy with the first good look at the seven loses the rack is shocking. Safety play is at a premium, and the strong kickers/jumpers are reaping big rewards. Then again, the matches, played without a shot clock to this point, have been dragging on because of the stiffness of the test.

My sense of things is that nobody under Fargo 820 can win the title, but you never know.

Love playing at the place Pettman Co-owns in Bangkok when I visit. Not the best quality, but the atmosphere is pretty fun.

MR break format is a winner in my eyes. Much prefer it.

I know there are no easy players to draw at this point, but it is a bit unfortunate for Earl that he has to play Shaw- especially considering their contentious history. I know Shaw will try to get under his skin if needed. These guys are two of my favorites to watch- they play so free and easy.

Last 64
Well balanced even perched draw with 12x800+ in top half and 13x800+ in bottom half.
Few big 800+v 800+ matchups
