US Open 9-Ball, 2023, Atlantic City, Sep 25-30

Yes, even in the $20 tournaments I play in you call someone over and watch if there might be a foul.

But Scott acting with virtue through this situation is a good example for us all. True class.
He definitely earned a little respect from me on it.

Raga vs Chang was the only decent match I've watched ...everything else hasn't seemed like 9 ball pool at all. Super boring stuff here, and 100% totally contributed to those 4" pockets.
..and what do you think us league players are thinking when we see these conditions....NO way we're spending a cent to go enter events like this and try our luck and hopefully get the chance to compete against our favorite Pro's. This killed that idea dead.
As Newman so eloquently said "You know what this is turning into..... a waste of my time, and waste of my money!" 🤣🤪
They have more "league players" lined up to play this tournament than they can handle. Sold out every year super fast.

It's been under wraps the entire time I've been here since Sunday.

Guessing 3" pockets....lol
That's a really cool way to create some suspense and build some meaning to a story line though. Smart idea, hers or not.

Lol @ 3" pockets

Kidding aside...

People need to move on regarding the 4" pockets. Based on what I've witnessed. The best players aren't having an issue with them. This is the point. Having the best performing players make it to the end. Raga was not the best player in this room by a long shot.

This tournament has transitioned into a pool "major", if you will. The notion of its winner playing on a table that makes me competitive is just wrong. Anything larger than 4" pockets would have been a welcomed disappointment to me.

The pocket size isn't the variable that's causing fits. It's the shelf depth and speed imo.

If this happened to me in a local gambling or tournament match I wouldn't call a foul. But I also don't play pool for a living or rely on good results to feed my family.
Hunter instructs pool to "feed his family". If he depended on his tournament winnings to do so, then his family is starving. I wonder what his career winnings total is? Not as much as a typical blue-collar working stiff makes would be my guess.

If you want to attend a matchroom sanctioned event without the need of 4 inch pockets, there are plenty in the year such as the previous ones the past two weekends in Long Island and CT. Not to mention the lower price tag.

Anyone else know what table was behind Emily in the interview where she said there was a special reveal for the final 16? Looked like nice curvy legs... not just hers lol

new diamond table release would be my guess, if it's a reveal thing. but don't they already have a curved leg version?

I've always liked Hunter Lombardo and haven't ever cared much for Scott Frost, but this episode was total bull shit. This could open the door for more bull shit calls in the future. No ref present or called to watch a shot? Should be shooter's call.

Bad on you Hunter Lombardo. Not a classy move at all in my opinion.
Bingo.
I've rooted for that kid to keep coming up and get to the top level for years.
I will now be rooting for his opponents fort he rest of his petty, cheating, career.
That was a disgrace to the game and an embarrassment to the player.
I've complained in the past about the "all ball fouls" interpretation.
The fact that something insignificant that has no effect on the game can be called a foul, completely changing the outcome of an event, is beyond stupid.
If a ball moves, fine -call a foul. If you think there's a chance your opponents arm hair may have grazed a ball, just stfu and don't cry for a free game.
Let's go Garzia! He should probably shave his head and arms, and buy a spandex shirt before the match with hunter.

Yeah, that Steve guy has no clue. Calls everything wrong and just says different sound bites.

During the beginning of the Lee Vann Corteza vs Roberto Gomez match he was calling them by opposite names. Has no clue at all.
Often it's a friend of a friend who gets in the booth.

Is there a URL link that shows live scores ONLY for the matches in progress, like the ones you see in many other tournaments? Here the live scores are all intermingled with past results and upcoming matches, which makes for a lot of PITA scrolling.

Add to that, the business and legal environment makes it extremely hard to run a profitable pool hall without alcohol, and if alcohol is served in an establishment, odds are minors either can't come in, or require guardian presence on premises. So the pool playing population in America is aging more and more every year.

Also add in the US drinking age is 21, which is higher than just about everywhere else, and it's far more rigidly enforced.
