US Open (9 ball) 2024, August 19-24, Atlantic City

Not saying your complaint is not valid, but that would be multiple sports. Baseball and football come to mind. Hypothetically: Denver playing Buffalo AT Buffalo in winter weather in the NFL playoffs, vs., say, Houston and the Chargers playing under a roof the same weekend.
I should have worded that better, maybe different specifications instead of conditions. It would be comparable to football playoffs for one particular match that had a 200 yard field instead of 100 yard. Baseball with 5 bases instead of 4. Basketball with 15 foot hoops.

I'll never understand why it is accepted that these tournaments have a "special" table that operates under different constraints/conditions than the other tables. Only having a time clock in effect and/or different pocket sizes on a single table. What other sport has one particular match that is played on different conditions than all of the other ones? Put them all on a time clock, or none of them, ditto with the pocket sizes.

If JJ can only play incredibly slow, he would have been out far sooner had he been playing under a time clock.
Hell no! Yes, I’d love 20 second time clocks on every table. But if that’s not possible, please don’t take it away from the TV table and make ALL the viewers suffer.

Baseball fields are different sizes.

I very respectfully disagree. :) This is a medical condition, and antiperspirants won't work. I know a pro who has diabetes and has had to leave a match because he felt faint and had to either get orange juice or an injection. I know of another pro who has bipolar disorder, and he/she is unable to take medicine for it because it affects their caliber of play, but it results in unexpected emotional outbursts.

The point, I guess, is that this was not a shark move, which is what was insinuated by others. If a medical condition prevents a player from competing on a professional level adhering to the tournament rules, then it is what it is. But sometimes there is no remedy for a medical condition that will suffice enough to allow the player to not experience the symptoms when in combat.
I sweat a lot when I play. I always seem to leave a little sweat on the rails, and sweat through my glove too. The worst part for me is that when I sweat through the glove, the part of the glove that touches the table can leave a black mark on the cloth. I sometimes change gloves if the match is going long.

You mean, the outfields are? Surely the distance between the plates, pitcher and home plate, etc.. are the same? But yeah, I see your point. Still more the exception than the rule.
Outfield dimensions do vary but its not by much. Mound-to-home and base-to-base distance is set. 60ft6" from pitching rubber to home plate and 90ft from base-to base. Foul-pole distance is 325ft min. and center distance is 400ft min.

They might not vary "by much" (depends on what you feel about "much"), but they can make a huge difference. The astros for example, have a short left field porch. In the past they've actually traded for players at the deadline etc.. who have high percentages of flyouts to left field that would have been HRs at their park.
Hell, and they even used to have a hill in the outfield with a flag pole that was in play. (RIP Tal's Hill)

But overall the point is understood. It's kinda rare. The playing surfaces can matter a lot in football, lineman normally anchor better in natural grass, then dry fields vs. wet fields etc..., but at the least the fields are the same dimensions.

It would take a miracle for Sky to pull off an upset, he is running 1 ball after ball in hand, scratching with ball in hand, just not playing well. Very disappointing.

Soccer fields in Europe have to only fit into ranges of dimensions. There are smaller soccer field in major leagues than others

Tyler and Wolford are out and Billy Thorpe looks set to join them.

Those last 2 spots for Team USA are a concern.

I think you have to pick Oscar as he is capable of playing well.

I would then pick somebody like Hunter Lombardo. Time to give somebody else a chance, Tyler keeps failing in the MC.
Why not select on merit and merit only? Picking someone because they are capable and give someone else a chance?
There are many players capable of playing very well that are off the radar. I know guys that are not Fargo Rated that can play with anyone in the world, in all games. Why not seek them out if you want capable and give a player a chance that doesn't deserve it no matter their ability, it could be feel good movie.
Merit and merit only, no favors or sympathy especially for players of 30 years who haven't won crap and can't even win local tourneys.

I don't view pool 100% according to Fargo but the pool world looks at it like a credit score, it works.
# 75 .Hunter Lombardo USA 733.
Not a contender and never was in my opinion, and we know all about opinions.
If his points put him in the top 5 then he deserves a spot on the team.

# 27. Donny Mills USA 754.
If I'm looking through your eyes of capable and give someone a chance I am selecting Donny.
I don't know him or never met him, I have only seen him compete on streams.
He stepped up and played Shane for cash on a stream in front of the pool world, very few will.
He has heart and ability. Heart carries a lot of merit in my eyes.
From what I hear he might have to take a boat to Europe if that's where it's played.

Neil’s through to the last 8. I’d like a Neil’s Svb final, then not sure who I would want to win it!
Although ko pin yi is going to be a tough test, made light work of Albin

The way he went thru albin, I'd say Pin Yi is way better than ok.

Tee...hee.

Just don't pick slow ass players for streamed tables. They know who they are.
Who are they? I'd say there are far more players that'd play unbearably slow on the streamed table if there was no shot clock than those that wouldn't. Matchroom's vision is likely to have all tables on shot clocks. To get there they need people to watch. Nobody is watching most of these matches without a shot clock.

Are people complaining about having a shot clock? Anybody with aspirations of winning the US Open should be happy to play on the streamed table with a shot clock. Anybody without aspirations of winning the tournament, I don't really care what they think.
