The Accu-Stats website still only shows 50 players paid with 15 of those being non-paying past Champions. That leaves 78 players needed to fill the field (AKA $78,000.), Only less than two months until show time. Hope the entries pick up as I already made my room reservation for the entire week.

$1700.00 or so is a lot to risk-especially with Taiwan coming-I don't see 105 this year.

This is the first time we've seen a verified and paid in full list starting from zero names. I would imagine it's slow to fill like this every year. We are just privy to it now.

I really hope you are right. What you said makes perfect sense.

Thanks

I wouldn't be too concerned. With WPA ranking points available, most of the big guns from all over the world will be there, especially with another event, The Steinway 10-ball Classic, being held the day after the US Open finishes..

Full field? Tough to say. Big field? Definitely.

I've booked my hotel, too, and I'm going whatever the field size.

What do the points- besides bragging rights- do for a player Stu? I cant seem to get any info on that.

Here are a few examples of how the points figure:

The WPA points earn you invitations to high purse events with limited field size like the World Pool Masters, the World Cup of Pool, the Pacquiao event, the World Teams Championships. The points also govern WPA invites. For example, if a country is entitled to two invitations to a WPA event, the invitations go to the two best players based on WPA points.

In countries in which the government pays the expenses of the top few players, accumulation of points can assure continued government sponsorship for a player, while failure to earn points will, over time, mean the end of a player's funding.

In short, WPA points give one a chance to earn a better living at pool by affording entry into many of the biggest paying events.
