I’m in Taiwan, my old stomping grounds, and somehow got the feeling that one of their players may take it.

Chang Jung-Lin looks like a good pick.

That has a rhyming ring to it,too.

Chang Jung-Lin for the win!

Any predictions, boys?

SVB/Shaw/Chang in any order. That trio looks locked in, but of course, i always hope for an upset. Can't wait to see who surprises everyone and marches up the field. Wouldn't mind seeing Filler get into the top three at the end of the day.

there's a few of whom i don't know the current speed: mario he? appleton? they don't have very low seeding, darren is around 80. they know how to win for sure, as does bustie (100+ seeding iirc)

mario has been suspended by wada but before that happened he was on fire

Man, how can you even pick? what a lineup...

I'd love to see svb take it down, or alex.

It is going to be a great show no matter what, and whoever wins is gonna be playing some awesome pool for a long time.

This might just be the toughest US Open ever to handicap because of the incredible depth of the field. It's just too easy to pick the proven superstars like SVB, Filler, Orcullo, Shaw, Carlo Biado or JL Chang.

I'm looking for a couple of the players who have never had a top four (meaning reaching the final day) at the US Open to make a statement and go very deep. The candidates would seem to include Fedor Gorst, James Aranas, Wu Jiaqing, Albin Ouschan, David Alcaide, Petri Makkonen and Skyler Woodward. I'm guessing one of them reaches the final.

Let's see if we get the loose pockets that are customary at Matchroom's events in the single-table arena. If so, even more players are in with a chance to win this.

If I'm asked to pick one player, I'll go with Josh Filler. If I'm asked who is the most likely player to have a breakout performance at the 2019 US Open, I'll pick Fedor Gorst, the young Russian who is starting to look like one of the most elite players in the world.

.... but, then again, I usually get this wrong.

How many of the 256 do you guys think have a reasonable chance to win? I’ll guess 64.
A different way to ask that is: How many would you have to pick to bet even money that one of your chosen group will win?

I think I have to pick about 10. Not all by FargoRate, but close. I might pick a dark horse or two outside the top 32.

No fair looking at the draw first.

There are too many players who could win with mostly solid matches and one or two great matches.
