US Open 9-ball updates thread..

I guarantee you Shane makes money from Endorsements, way more than his earnings on the table? Trump made HIS million+ on a Snooker table! How many OTHER players in this event have earned a MILLION + on a pool table, and don't try throwing in career earnings either!
Your lack of knowledge is showing once again. Shane made his first million from prudent real estate investments. He continues to make far more from his endorsement contracts than he does from his tournament winnings, but you keep adding qualifications to your original statement. Very Trump like. Congrats to The Real Don Cobra.

I would bet he's not the only millionaire in this event! Some of the "dead money" guys have very deep pockets, you can believe that. And people are knocking them on here too. You do make an interesting point about only two Americans winning this event in the last fifteen years. I can only speak for myself when I say I have no animosity for any pool players based on their nationality. There may be a couple I don't care for, but it has more to do with their character than anything else.
I agree Jay, a player's nationality, their personal financial situation, etc. should not be how they are judged, let's look at individual character. Having a lot of money does not mean someone does not have a burning competitive spirit - many times it is just the opposite - often you have to compete successfully to get rich!

I think an issue for many of the American players here; not the very top ones, but the ones you see with 700+ Fargo rates who mostly compete locally/regionally - especially in the last few years - is that they do not get enough top elite competition to stay sharp under the highest stress levels of competition.

Many, many years ago Mike Zuglan talked about how practice is fine and necessary to an extent; but one had to compete at very high levels continuously to stay really sharp for the main arena of battle.

Two americans may have only won the event in the last 15 years, but just ONE of those Americans constitutes a THIRD of all of the tourneys in that time frame...lol

Do you honestly believe Trump entered this event with the hopes of winning it. Or maybe he entered it because he needed to make some money😅🤣

Ha!

Not sure if this is higher or lower than I'd imagined, but for the record:

Glenn, what the hell are you on about? If someone makes money from endorsements that they earned by playing pool, you're excluding that from their earnings made in their pool career? If they invest their earnings made from playing pool and make returns off of it, we can't count that either? And we can't include career earnings they made from playing pool either?

Do you put money into a bank account or just store it in empty McDonalds cups under your seat and hope that when you open the lid there's more of it in there?

You changed your tune fast. You didn't qualify your statement with this caveat when you said "He is the ONLY millionaire playing in this event," did you. I think you should change your name to Trump also! It fits.
YOU made it a point to what was it, a 100-1 Trump couldn't win the open, because of his Snooker background, great for that comparison between snooker and pool being different. Flip the coin, how many POOL players have played in the Snooker World Championships held in the Crucible? Has ANY even qualified to play in it? If there was more MONEY in pool payouts than there is in Snooker, how many of those players would drop Snooker and take up playing pool then!!!

It seems like some of the top American players aren't traveling to as many tournaments- for example, Mike Dechaine hardly enters any tournaments any more, Bergman didn't compete in this year's US Open as far as I can tell. Also, other strong players like Jesse Engel seem to only enter tournaments sporadically. Maybe as the financial incentives improve (hopefully Match Room keeps promoting more events), more will participate.

I know Corey Deuel and Alex Pagulayan gave Snooker a try. I don't think they were very successful though

How many BROKE pool players do you know? I know a shit ton of them!!!!

Take SVB out of the equation, now whos left?

I think Dechaine has more or less said he's taken an indefinite break from pro pool. Last I heard he had a good job and was doing well at it.

I think most American viewers believe Trump came here to win, but fail to realize he came to have fun. Win or lose has no effect on him like it does with every other player in this event. I mean think about it, he's the ONLY millionaire playing in this event! How many players in this event HAVE EVER placed in the money in a Snooker event? There's always going to be animosity towards any NON- Americans playing in this event, yet all the Americans who support this event, fail to realize only TWO American players have won this event since 2006 when John Schmidt won it, and SVB 5 times since! SVB is the ONLY hope of an American ever winning this event again, like it or not!!!!
SVB and Skylar Woodward are the only two Americans left standing now, and Woodward is probably underdog in his match, and SVB is the only American favorite to make the final 16.

See post 608!!

I hate those balls. Orange four and purple five - UGH! I think someone who is dyslexic designed them. I do like a ref on every table racking the balls.
Imagine doing commentary with those balls. Make more mistakes than DannyD j/k. DannyD great guy. But seriously I’d call the wrong shot 50% of the time.

have to say “well he’s playing shape on the next ball” then you can’t say the wrong thing.

For the integrity of pool-what little is left. Don’t change the ball colors again!!!

At the current pace of inflation next year I figure 20% of the field will be worth a million and in 5 years 80% will be worth a million.

Fatboy-had millions when a million meant some thing 💪

Probably about the only thing everyone here can agree on ;-)

Alex got beat 11 - 0 without making a ball WHATS YOUR POINT?

Why all the hate for a guy that has been very humble and is helping to grow/support your shitty little sport with shitty paydays?

It would take somebody winning this event 14 times to equal what he wins in 1 event.

Whats really funny is the guy just started playing pool in the last few weeks and finished 32nd - 48th and all of you want to automatically place him as a ~ 740 Fargo, there were/are a lot of players that finish equal or worse than that, and yet you all are patting yourselves on the back like your geniuses.

Take Shanes record at Mosconi and tell me with those results ONLY what type of player he is.

God damn do I hate AZB people sometimes
I agree and disagree with you, Jason
Yeah, some posters seem to think Judd should be a hardened player after four matches with a borrowed cue.., wth?
On the other hand, people have been yelling “Kill the umpire!” at baseball games for a hundred years. These are fans that love the game. I say have at him. :)
