US Open stream...............

It is bizarre to me that I can find reading about the matches so interesting, yet watching em on a screen absolutely somnolent.

I saw a little, wish I had seen more.

Wow-Wu-Wow

Does anyone else feel like we're headed for a Wu vs. Filler final?
I believe we'll definitely see a left handed player in the final;).
Great US-Open with all four semi-finalists want it so badly. Have any of them been in the final of this event before?
Yea, I have the same feeling. Each of them deserves the title. I will root for Joshua. He may give a good boost to this sport attracting more kids to take a stick and learn the game. It is amazing how much energy and fire in this young man. Just after this open he takes a fly to the european championships in Italy which start tomorrow and finish on May 8th. I wish all four to show their best so we have fun watching great fights in the semis.

if filler-wu happens it will be a pretty exciting final with two fearless attacking players (for that matter Chang as well). If they hold their nerve we'll be in for a real spectacle

It will be more of a spectacle if they don’t hold their nerve. I hope the table isn’t too easy for them.

That's not entirely true. Some jump because it is a viable option. Some work harder at improving their jump.

Let's ban LD shafts. Let's ban break cues. Let's ban the bridge. Definitely ban those cue extenders

Botch position and get behind a ball - no problem. Pull out the jump cue. Banning powder but allowing jump cues is goofy.

I’m not surprised by a bunch of early blow-outs in the Open....
...I AM surprised that in the later stages we’re still seeing blow-outs.

Winner Breaks <3
This is how Pool should be always. High resolution and Winner Breaks!
Exciting come backs and all.. :D

Deluna made it past orcollo, biado, Alex the lion, kenichi Uchigaki, liu Haito, imran Majid

His path to the final four is unbelievable

Meanwhile, others have not played a top 50 fargo rated player...

What other option did Shane had besides the 2-6 combo?

Was the long bank to the top right corner pocket on?

Any safety options?

What's the percentages on that combo? 30%? 50%?

Off the two-ball behind the nine?
...hook behind the six-ball for plan B

I hope At Large can provide the stats on Shane's matches, especially the one vs Wu.
Match room showed a their stats about half way through the match. SVB and Wu were almost identical in every stat, except that SVB had 4 fouls. That was the difference in the match. You give a great player ball in hand 4 times in a match, and you're toast.

I've been amazed at how offensive minded these players have been. When Filler played Shaw there were a few times I didn't even consider an offensive shot and assumed he had to play a containing safety. He made them all and put racks behind them.

At the highest levels reckless levels of offense are justified. They are still playing percentages, it's just that the percentages are all different. Namely:

1) Their chances of making the offensive shot are much, much higher than ours
2) Their opponent's chance of escaping the defensive shot are much, much higher than ours

I miss hard shots and my opponent's miss kicks, so for me I would probably play safe in that spot. But for SVB vs Wu, I don't question this was the right percentage. It always looks bad when it doesn't work, kind of like a huge bluff in poker always looks like a spew when the opponent happened to have the nuts and calls them down. But these are the shots that shut out 790 fargo rate opponents and get them to the final rounds. If you can't make these you're not going to win. I promise that the person who wins today in the finals will take on and make shots none of us would go for!

Could Dennis or Alex play a 1p shot and lock the CB on the right side of the 9b? I see them do amazing things with the CB.

Or bank the two to the upper left pocket with lots of left and kill onto the four ball. I'd rather shoot that than the combo because it has some chance of safe and position and I don't like my chances with the combo.

Not sure of the angle, but maybe bank the two to the middle of the far end rail and bump the nine to stop the cue ball.

On the other hand, if you like the combo, it offers a win.

To add to my post above - I was blown away to see a race to 15 'take what you make' 8 ball match between Alex and Bergman in which only 1 safety was played the entire set!

It goes full circle:

Beginners are all offense
Advanced players learn when the table can't be run, don't kill soldiers, develop the table
Elite players learn when the table can't be run, run out anyway!
