USA in January

Just made my reservations for the DCC at Horseshoe Hotel, for the full 9 days.

Haven't booked my flighttickets yet, and before I do that I need some help from you guys and girls here on AZ.

I am having 2 or 3 weeks vacation in January for this, and I am considering going to the Music City 9-ball Open at JOB Billiards in Nashville, the 14th - 17th of January. I have tried e-mail them at their contactinfo at their website, but that doesn't work, so can anyone give me the correct contactinfo to them? I won't call from Europe, so only e-mail will work.

So, if I decide to go to that event, I will have the 18th till the 22nd to go somewhere, to do someting and perhaps meet somebody :D

I know it's in January and cold, and even though I am at a holiday, I am only going to play pool. I don't care much for museums and stuff like that, give me an address to a poolhall and I'm happy.

Where should I go, and why? I won't travel far, so it has to preferrably be in the "area" of Nashville, Chicago & Louisville. (I am most likely going to take a flight from Frankfurt - Chicago because that's easiest and cheapest, but hey, if there's something cool going on another place the week before DCC, I might change my mind on that)

I am interested in playing weekly events in any game, amateur events or take lessons. If I can go one place to play a weekly 8-ball on Monday, weekly one-pocket on Tuesday etc. at evenings, and lessons or playing some AZers on daytime, that would be perfect :)

I've already got 2 options so far, but before I make a final decision I would like to know what you can recommend me.

Thanks in advance

Roy,
I am not 100% sure I'm going but I'm 99% sure. If I do go then it will be for the last 4 days (same days as Ktown D, Wed through Sun) . As I do not have a room yet, do you have a roommate for the last 4 days?

If you like drinking and waking up with sketchy women all over the room then I'm the perfect roommate.

I think the only time the guys at JOB's fool with their website
is to put up the Music City Open flyer. I may be wrong but I will
be surprised if you get an answer to your e-mail.
There are several posters on here that live near there including
myself, Tennesseejoe, and masonh who can probably answer most
of your questions.

I live about 180 miles east of Nashville and would be happy to supply hospitality and what little competition I can muster. I only have an old 8' Brunswick at the house but at least it was set up by RKC.

Glad you decided to vacation with us rednecks again this year......

I have booked a one-bed room, but if you can guarantee lots of drunk sketchy women I might reconsider the choice of rooming alone ;)

Hehe, ok. I'll drop you a PM with some questions :)

Thanks for your kind offer :) Are there any poolhalls nearby with some weekly tournaments? I'll drop you a PM one of the following days:)

As spending time with you rednecks, well, I kind of like haning around with weird people ;)

(I just hope that I won't meet those that have offered me a punch in the face. It's almost as I hope Team Europe won't win the Mosconi Cup again) lol

There are tournaments during the week. I would have to get info as I typically only play on Mondays anymore. There is an open tournament every Mon night at a restaurant/bar/poolroom called Bailey's. There is a room in town (Knoxville Billiard Club) with a Diamond and an old classic Brunswick along with Gandy's and barboxes, most of the regulars there play 1P. You could probably find some 9 ball action at Breakers, they have a couple of 9'ers and about 10 Diamond barboxes. They serve food and alcohol at Breakers too.

See you in January.

Roy,
Did you know that in the U.S. you can request a room with TWO beds? lol.

seriously, I'll split the cost for the last 4 days with you if you want.

Also, does anyone know what airport you fly into for the DCC? I'm gonna book my flight pretty soon pending a roommate.

The room is now changed so it has two beds. It do cost $ 10 extra per night there is someone else rooming there.

The nearest airport is Louisville International Airtport (SDF). I think I paid around $ 40 in taxi to get to the Horseshoe Hotel last year.

I've decided not to go to the events at JOB Biliards, since my brother wanted to take a week in New York. So I am now going with him to New York and staying there about a week before DCC.

I will try to play some pool every day in New York, so please let me know if there are any tournaments or interesting things going on. I will be there from the 14th to the 22nd, then heading to Louisville when my brother heads home.

Can't wait :D

I didn't read the responses to your post but if you are in the area of Louisville with time to kill, you should definitely consider taking lessons from Stan Shuffett and maybe trying to wager a hundred Euro or two with Landon shuffett.

If you mosy down to New Orleans I can promise bars are open 24 hours a day, two pool rooms to choose from, one where the banger hang out and one where the players, play. You probably belong in the former but we will let you play at Buffalo Billiards too. With free tournaments on Tuesday and Friday (one pocket) you should get your speed clocked pretty quick with losing a couple of hundred to the locals and be able to get a good handicap.

JoeyA would probably try and come out of retirement and play you some one pocket cheap 50 Euro a game or something close to that.
The Norwegians have so much money that may not seem like a decent bet for you.

If in NY, Masters Billiards in Queens, Queens Blvd (39th st) has a tourney on Mondays and Weds. One is open the other is handicapped. Skyline Billirads (ave X)? may also have an open tournament. Close to Coney Island.
