Useful Shot

I played this shot in a tournament last weekend and much to my surprise the guy I was playing had never seen it before. He is a well traveled player and he was pretty shocked when I played it. The best part is that I told him that was my plan when I started my run. It is not the first time I have used this shot in a match and once you hit a few it is pretty easy to get a hold of. Anyway, just thought I would share it and maybe refresh it for some that may have forgotten it.

Where do you play out of?

Wow, that's a good shot. I've not seen one jump so high with any accuracy. Most people don't know that a lot of the banks they shoot actually jump the OB...at least a little if the CB is struck firmly. You've taken it to the extreme to say the least.

Here's an example of what I am talking about. Watch the 4B leap off the first rail because I pounded it so I could get shape on the 5. It's easy to see when it goes to slow-motion at about the 30 second mark.

The first time I saw a shot like tha tis in that Mika DVD introduction clip.

I think bottoms on the CB to induce some tops on the OB to make it hop off the rail. I might be wrong. Maybe the times I tried to copy that shot from the Mika DVD were all fluke :p

I've made short shots like that, but that was a long one. Great shot. I jump the QB off the rail over balls to hit the OB, hit it most of the time but hardly ever make it in a pocket. Very nice shot. Johnnyt
 
teedotaj...No, you have to elevate the butt of your cue, so that you're shooting down on the CB. The CB is airborne when it hits the 8, and in turn, makes the 8 slightly airborne hitting the cushion a tiny bit higher on the nose. This is why the OB "jumps" over the obstacle balls. Bottom has nothing to do with it.

Why would you be surprised? Though I've seen this shot done as part of a trick shot show, I've never seen this shot played in a tournament I've attended, and I've surely attended 300 events over the last 33 years.

Needless to say, that's a fine shot you made. Well played.
 
Funny you should post this. I did that shot just the other night while gambling. Except it was the cueball that jumped, not the object ball. I hit the ball i was aiming for but missed the pocket. Practice makes perfect though.


Allison did it on espn once shes the only one ive seen pull it off in a match.
