What is going on with the players not being paid from this tournament? I have heard a few different reasons for the lack of payment and also wonder why none of the players have been on this forum to talk about it? I did not play in the tournament but know about 50 people that did and none of them have been paid.

That's crazy! Did they at least get post dated checks or an 'IOU' note?

If I'm not mistaken, they were told at the tourney that winnings would be sent out by check. I heard they were supposed to be sent out this week... so they should be getting paid soon. The check is in the mail! :D

They were told after the tournament started. How does a 99 player tournament take 5 days and not pay when it is done? Annigoni is lucky the players remained calm.

So, let me get this right...

This event is their annual championship - he collected money weekly but there was no money to play the players on spot? Sounds like a funny business to me

Why does it take 5 days to run a tourney for 99 players?

Jay Swanson Memorial fills up 192 every year and finish on one weekend - something just doesn't jive here:scratchhead:

Screwball ???

Tony Annigoni eh?

I have to wonder about this guy who walks around day
and night with a Carpenter's Pencil tucked over his ear and makes
notes on scratch paper constantly ? Do ya' think he made a note
to himself to pay the players ?

Sure hope everyone gets their dough.

What tables were used for this tournament (Gold crowns , Diamonds etc.) and how did they play?

Tables

I believe all the tournament matches were played on Robertson tables. But they had a few Gold Crowns on the side. I can't comment on how they played since I wasn't there. But Robertsons are pretty nice tables and play closer to Gold Crowns than say, a Diamond table.

We had 4 or 5 players in the money at the Peppermill USPPA tournament and they were told at the time that checks would be mailed Friday the 10th. As of yesterday nobody that I checked with has received one. The reasoning was that the Nevada Gaming Commission wanted the Peppermill to do it that way. That is something that you would obviously know before the tournament, and some grief could have been avoided if the players had been told sooner. It seems like the Peppermill would want the players paid the cash while they were still in their casino, right? Everybody had a great time at the tournament. The Peppermill is sweet and will be a great location for the future. Tony has worked hard to keep things going in Reno for the USPPA and the players, and events are already scheduled for 2011. We've been part of the system for more than 20 years, and are going to try hard to grow our participation next year, assuming, of course, those checks arrive:)
The tables were mostly Rebcos, with a few Gold Crowns, and played fine.

Hi, Mark! We're fine around here, thanks. You're right, I don't get on AZ as much as I'd like. I'm sure you'll be happy to learn that the players have been enjoying your halibut in the pool room and are very grateful. (I'll try to catch you some fresh ones:)). The scotch doubles idea sounds ineresting. The right mix of personalities would be great to watch. By the way, I misspoke. The tables at the Peppermill were the black Robertsons, not Rebcos, for what it's worth. Merry Christmas to you from Susie and myself, and here's to a great 2011!

Something is rotten in Denmark! Every casino that I've ever worked with wanted all participants in any casino event to be paid as quickly as possible. More chance they will use that money for gaming purposes or spend it elsewhere on property. That's the bottom line in the casino business.

Trudeau set a bad example that many promoters are now following. The good promoters do not do things like this and inform players ahead of time what the payment arrangements are.

Happy to know that everyone else is enjoys my Halibut. Just make surethat when Iget beck up there I expect a beer from each of them and we will be cool. Asfar asgetting the fresh fish from you I am not holding my breath. I been trying to get it for 3 yrs now :)

To stay on topic. I hope that the check is in the mail for these players. I think in Vegas ormaybe reno when CSi do their events the casino will actually cash the checks if not given in cash. Again as the other postersaid they want you in their casino with CA$H. So it don't make sense tome but I do not knowthe whole story.

Seems that CSI have figured out something that some others havn't.

I do not understand why people were not paid off at the Event Ends like in other Sports?

Mark,

Sure hope everything will go well for the affected players. Especially after Tony's post earlier this year regarding this subject. In my experience, BCAPL, ACS and VNEA have paid players by check at the various events. The checks were then cashed at the casino tellers. Turning Stone also prides itself by paying players CASH directly! One of Mike Zuglan's more enjoyable jobs.

Reno USPPA and (non) payouts

I am not sure what Lyn (Cardiac Kid) is referring to about Tony Annigoni's previous post "regarding this topic".

All I know is that Tony is an arrogant pompous ass.

He mislead players by saying there would be a series of events with $200,000 in payouts. It blocked the dates from others planning events. Then he just cancels it.

There is no excuse for what Tony did. He has been in the 'pool business' for 30 years or so. He runs the best events (if you ask him) but yet he cannot figure out how to pay the players? WTF?

I think he ruined the Reno tournaments - by taking 5 days to do a 3-4 day event.

This is the guy that would not allow us to use ball polishers because 'it would shrink the balls' and that the cloth was not Simonis.

He is on my short list of people that I WILL NOT WORK WITH. Anyone that has worked with Tony before will probalby agree with me.

There is no excuse for not paying the players.

But have no fear - ol' Tony A. will come up with a 45 minute speech as to why it all makes sense and is justified. The guy is off the charts.

Sorry to go off on him - but if you ever had to listen to his crap - you would know where I am coming from.

It is great how the players and sponsors have so much trust in promoters. But in times of this recession insurances should be taken ahead of time, if only to not repeat history.

I won't be vague. I am referring to cash insurances. Or more specifically a sealed handler. A person who is financed to specifically hold cash and prevent it from being tampered with. This would be a person paid to work with a promoter, this person serves the interest of the players and the integrity of the event, promoters seem to have poor planning as of late. Usually the handler is brought on because the promoter is a "risk." The handler is picked from someone within the community. Don't go looking for "sealed handlers."

That story about "Nevada Gaming commissioners wanted Peppermill to mail players check" is the biggest crock of over cooked chili I ever heard to this date!

With numerous tournaments being held at Las Vegas and Reno with enormous paydays, USPPA Championship is the only event Nevada Gaming Commission steeped in? PLEASE!
