Veterans Tourny:poolplayers that were soldiers?

Id be all for this...there are a cpl Vets that work with me here at the VA and I know they would make the trip with me...so count me in!

If possible though...the last weekend of Oct my wife myself and my son are going to Cabo San Lucas for 4 days oct 29-Nov 1. If it can be anytime before or after Im as good as in!!!!!

I think we need to get a head count of how many would actually be willing to travel to Saint Robert Missouri lets say in October/November. If we have enough I would be happy to help out. The last time we were there we raised $$ for the Wounded Warriors Program I would like to see that happen again. maybe 25% of the entry fees plus a couple of raffles etc. I think it would be alot of fun and be for a good cause, I am sure there will be many stories to listen to with a group like that around.
I want to play in it so bad I just went and tried to enlist at Old Navy but no luck.

This sounds like a good thing though let me know I have some contacts.

I think you'd have better luck holding it in San Antonio, TX. You have Lackland AFB, Fort Sam Houston, Brooks AFB, Altus AFB, Goodfellow AFB, Laughlin AFB, Ft Hood, Dyess AFB, Sheppard AFB, Kingsville NAS, Corpus Christi NAS, Ft Sill and Tinker AFB all within a 6 hour drive. That gives access to 200,000 military personnel and countless retirees...

Just a thought...

Sounds like there isn't much there then :) Hell I think I might go live there just in case we get attacked I think thats the safest place to be. If someone can figure out a way to get people signed up and confirmed for either place We will be able to better gage if it can really happen or not. I mean you can't really do it with 10 people ya know?

Besides the people on here I am sure that we would get a bunch (If held in Missouri) from that pool room enter.

Manwon was a U.S. Army Paratrooper I believe,

The paratrooper in the middle of that photograph next to Ike is my uncle.

BTW - Not all Vet's are "soldiers". It's a common misconception among civilians that all military are "soldiers". We're Soldiers, Airmen, Marines, and Seaman.:grin-square::grin-square::grin-square:

It's heart-warming, when in uniform, I've had elderly women come up and hug me and little kids salute me, that's all the thanks we ever need.

It's funny that I think local police officers and fireman have a much harder job than me and they're the ones I admire. We fight terrorism overseas, they protect everything we value at home.

So if this tournament takes place, are you suggesting that people should submit their DD214 prior to being granted entry? lol.

Either that or if a lying piece of dirt gets found out, it could get real ugly. The Seals even have an organization or website for ferreting the lying SOB's that claim they were Seals.

If someone wins the tournament or places highly they will be scrutinized very carefully. It is surprising how small of a world the military forces are. Everyone knows someone who knows someone, well you get the idea.

Hell, the winner would most likely wind up in one of the military newspapers and traveling around the country giving exhibitions at all of the VFW halls. :D

I don't think it would be a bad idea for DD214's to be part of the entry process.

In my lifetime, I have heard only a few people lie about their military background and while I am 95% sure they are liars, it isn't worth it to me to prove they are liars but if they are taking food off of another veteran's plate, I would out them in a second.

I got my DD214 here in a folder on my desk - I'll show it to anybody. Just don't ask me to try and fit into my old uniform, it'll never happen.

I would love to play in a tourney like this, I dont know if the VFW could support it or not with all the cut backs, but it could be done. I currently have 22 years of active service in the US Navy, and still serve proudly.

It can't be October. The middle of September I will be going to a 9 day tournament in Galveston and I'll surely be in the dog house when I get back so I need at least a full month to get back on my wife's good side and maybe more. :p

I would enjoy a tournament like that. I'm not sure if we have the numbers for combat veterans but all veterans would have a great time. Maybe there could be a couple of different tournaments within the tournament. Combat, non-combat, Purple Heart and maybe branch of service. I like it without the branch of service because if the marines didn't win the branch of service they would want to break up stuff. LOL

Thanks again for the work that you, Johnny and Nick did in Saint Robert, Missouri.

Will you be at the Gem City Classic July 17-19th? If so, I'll see you there.

Keep me in the loop on any upcoming tournaments for veterans.

I can see it now.....I am a Delta Force Navy Seal Cub Scout...but my DD214 was burned in the fire in St Louis, but you can trust me on this..Im the Real Deal

Amen to THAT! Heck..I could verify anyone that claims to be a VET..Thing about a DD214 is...I have seen people with a perfect DD214 trying to get VA Benefits..funny thing is, a couple have been weeded out.....Its stupid trying to get away with that crap anyways......I could verify anyone that claims to be a Vet if need be.

Well I'll try and find my DD214 lol. I know it's here somewhere. lol

I was just saying you must be careful when someone says they are a vet.

I remember reading a stat that said during the last census 3 out of 4 people that claimed to be x military were found to be full of it. I mean first they spit on soldiers then they wish they had been one...some people are just lost.

This is Awesome! I think it's a great idea.

Real Name on one side
AZ Name on the other

Pretty sure there'll be lots of wheelin & dealin of cues :)

Side note........if anyone needs to know how to get a copy of thier DD214 send me a PM and I can tell u how to do it...it only takes about 2 weeks max....I did it just to see hwo long it would take so I could tell my Vets that call in about it...and its pretty easy and painless....

anyone who served in the guard from ohio (army) i can get yours (214), its part of my everyday job!

im pumped about this.

At the same time though it needs to be all Vets, from every branch and current active soldiers as well as long as you have served your country in some branch somehow your in.

im sure USPFO and Public Affairs office would be all over it.

Kenny (The truck Driver) and i were talking about this and he said he would even come play!!! and he never leaves players!
if you dont know who the legendary truck driver sorry lol
