videos of runs

I was wondering if anyone looks at the videos.

I took a week off work and worked 12-14 hour days down at Derby mainly to see and video some runs for us 14.1 enthusiasts.

I know others look at them but this is our home base and when I upload the vids we painstakingly created, we hear nothing.

Everyone is spoiled and no one cares about them anymore?

Let us know.

Dennis,

I have downloaded and commented on every run that i have watched either here or on the DCC 14.1 challenge Facebook page. either by saying thanks or commenting on something that i have noticed. well not so much on that part since i dont want to be a spoiler for those who havent seen the footage.

You did a great job in capturing all the great runs, and it is much appreciated.

thanks
-Steve

Steve: I know you say something for most of them and I appreciate your response. I remember a few years back when we would get a new run, everyone would have something to say. I guess times change.:)

I love 'em! Am too busy to sit down and watch for long periods, so have several of them going at once--watching the Ouschan vs. Hohmann one and Johnny Archer at the moment, partway through each. I watch 5-10 mins at a time during work breaks. So thanks!

Dennis, I appreciate tremendously all that you and Bill did at the event, and all of your efforts to upload the videos as well.

I have downloaded all of them and look at one every day or so. THANK YOU so much. Truly, thanks.

Dennis,

i love em all :)
already *ordered* some kids and other guys to meet and watch several together to explain some things. Very useful for starters how it should be.
And ofc also for myself,

keep it up my friend, enjoy this a lot.

Guilty as charged. I am a regular viewer of videos and threads but very rarely post anything myself.

I really appreciate the time spent by all members posting threads and videos. There is a wealth of information on these boards ,whether it be informational or just for entertainment, which can be taken for granted.

Thanks for everything

Ratta: you asked me how to download these. Hopefully, others will chime in, too. When I go to the site and log in when looking at the video, in the bottom right there is a link to "download this video". When I click on it, it starts downloading. I think you have to be registered (free) and have to have logged in before this option presents itself.

I have had occasions where it would not download and that might have been because of settings in my browser. I have also used the add-on program "download helper" with Mozilla firefox as a browser and have been able to download from vimeo that way, too.

Maybe others could chime in. I assumed everybody downloaded them as it is easier to watch that way.

Hi Dennis, I too am guilty. I've watched some of these videos and they are great. I truly do appreciate all the dedication and time you put in providing these videos.

My interest in playing has diminished greatly. It seems as I get older pool rooms aren't what they used to be and I don't enjoy even going anymore.

I'm definitely jealous of the great rooms you have in your area of the country. I can see from some of your video posts that even the decor is nostalgic and the rooms seem nice and quiet for play. Not so around here, :( they are crazy loud and rooms don't even open until 5pm or so ... that's my bedtime. :) I love to see videos of some of those rooms you get to play in.

Thanks for all you do, and it's especially nice to see folks spreading word of 14.1 to the younger generation, there may be hope yet for straight pool, with folks like you working so hard to promote the game.

Dennis,

You betcha'! I watch them all, and appreciate the fact that you post them. It's the only 14.1 I ever get to watch, other than playing it.

I rarely post a comment, but a HUGE thanks to you for doing the 14.1 community such a great service!

Me Too!

Include me in the "I watch posted videos, but don't regularly comment on them" Club. However I did comment on the Beau video. Dennis, your efforts are much appreciated. I was thinking of posting after watching the Alex and Dennis runs, but never got around to it. I was thinking how clumsy the Pinoys play the game due to lack of experience. Shotmaking - check, position play - check, but when it comes to knowing what to play next, what to leave alone, when to go into balls and when not to, they seem a bit lost. I watch probably at least 20 hours of Accu-Stats 14.1 DVD's each week. Some vintage players like Rempe, Varner, Sigel, Lane, West and Miz, but also the more contemporary players; Schmidt, Ortmann, Hohmann and Archer. It just seems that the matches I regularly watch involve players who are more knowledgeable and better trained in the classic style of straight pool. Of course this is true since the Filipinos, at least I believe, didn't play much of straight pool at all in their life. My point is - it's interesting to see the contrast between great pool players who know how to play 14.1 well and great pool players who don't know how to play 14.1 well. At any rate, your efforts are very much appreciated in this house and I (hopefully) look forward to many more. Thanks Dennis, Steve and everyone else who posts videos - whether of matches or of their own runs.

Ron: Most of the players who competed at Derby had a somewhat unorthodox style. Niels, Mika, JS, were the most orthodox. It was interesting watching Orcullo butcher an end pattern but then end up with a break shot anyway.

I also should thank Marop and SteveKur for letting me use their vimeo accounts to get around the 500 mb per week limit.

I think you would be surprised at just how many people you are reaching with those videos. Just because you don't get responses, does not mean that you are not providing a great service to literally THOUSANDS of players that would never have access to such great pool.

Your efforts are reaching many players in Europe - as well as all across the entire world. You may not hear from all of them, most of them won't comment - or they just lurk this forum for any shred of info and video that they can find. Don't stop doing what you're doing. It's more appreciated than you will ever know.

very, Very, VERY appreciative of your work, and ashamed not to have said so earlier.

as someone else mentioned, i especially like to see the ones of players who understand 14.1. while it's fun to see someone run more than i can even though they don't know what they're doing, it's a one-trick pony: they can make lots of shots, but they're never going to run 200.

that's Still a nice exercise in trying to call the Right patterns, and at my level i can learn from watching just about anyone.

that said, the videos i watch over and over are people like the Hohmanns, John Schmidts, the Feijens, etc. i NEVER tire of those runs, some of which i've watched dozens of times.

many thanks again for your work capturing it for us.

I see, but even that is merely an example of one brain dead idiot's attempt at getting some attention. ( I would have said, "making a fool of himself", but that fool was made some time ago. :) )

What keeps me out of the few rooms in my area is that gangsta rap garbage talking about fking this and killing someone, all played so loud your teeth rattle.

And ya know what, it may not even be the music itself that really bothers me as much as it is the owners allowing it. When I had my room, I removed all the obscene music from the jukebox and regulated the volume so there was respect for the people playing. I think the owners disregard irks me as much as the profanity in the music they allow.

Anyway, at least around here, gone are the days of rooms opening at 10am, a few 1 pocket games going on, as well as a few 4 handed rotation games, and of course the staple of 14.1 being played regularly. Free coffee pot going in the corner, no loud music .... Those are the things that the other room you videoed reminded me, of and made me nostalgic for.

Anyone with a room like that in their area is fortunate, and seeing that one was nice. Thanks again for all your efforts Dennis.

DENNIS!!!

The sounds of Red Shoes is more beautiful than Pachelbel's Canon in D Major!!!

Love that type of atmosphere. Interesting idea. Sometimes what you hear in a poolroom is much more interesting (and funnier) than what you see. Thanks for the video and the laughs.

14.1 Videos

I certainly appreciate these videos! I have only had enough time to watch 3 of them, but I will see the rest before the weekend. I thank all involved for the hard work it took to publish these fine examples of 14.1. Keep em comin! Maybe if I practice long enough I can have one of my own to share.

It's kind of a sign of the times, Dennis. Today's world is all about instant gratification and consumption. I TRY to take a moment to show appreciation for what others do for us, but it's easy to just hit play & forget all about it.

I can relate to your predicament...I try to contribute heavily to every forum I am a member of. I know what it's like to take an hour or two or three to record, edit, & post a video (remember my break analysis vids?) and have 4,000 people view them but only 3 people say thanks. It stings a little when you've put so much of yourself into it...but I got over it once I accepted that I KNOW people watched my vids & benefited from them. That was reward enough. :)

BTW, if you think it's bad now...wait a few years. Each new generation loses another level of social awareness as evolve away from eye-to-eye conversation (text & cell) and social interaction (do kids go to school dances anymore?).

I have been away for a few days (6). No computer (it was just supposed to be overnight), all I had was my cell. AARGH! I knew that Dennis had a couple of DVD's waiting for me at home. I have been watching the videos he took at Derby and they are amazing even on my cell! I want to thank Dennis and Marop and everyone else (a whole long list not meaning to offend by leaving anyone out) at the 14.1 Challenge.

I found myself sitting in a spectators chair between Corry and Mika running balls for the Challenge thinking to myself "The guys at the pool hall will never believe this!" Some do, some don't, and I don't care.

Everyone that I got to watch I approached and spoke with, all were cordial, some even chatted and told me “secrets” to playing 14.1 better (mostly be a good ball pocketer and play the right patterns). What a thrill to be able to see some of the best in the world playing the game I love.

So, to all that make the 14.1 Challenge happen, thank you.

To Dennis especially thanks for the time, effort and dedication that you put into the Challenge. Maybe only a few will say thanks but know many will watch them and spread the love of the game. I have put these into DVD format and given them the players on my league to watch. They too have been very happy to have them available, all have thanked me, but the thanks go to you even if by proxy.

I’m looking forward to someday being able to shoot a game with you.

Thanks Dennis.

Andy
