Vivian Villarreal got them again

Could she have just went ahead with the event, if the players (after being contacted) were still willing to play, and accept IOU's? Maybe the players would have still been willing to play, if she could at least pay them out part of their winnings (of howver much she could afford to pay). At least the fans would not be at a loss, and they could still see a great tournament live. Just a thought.

I would consider playing in a tournament like that...
...as long as I could handle my entry fee, airfare, hotel room, and meals...
....with IOUs....

I really do not know anything about this stuff, but I imagine that the entry fees would add up to a decent amount of money. Plus, the vendors have to pay the promoter money for the space, right? I do not know. Maybe that money could be added to the tournament prize pot. I do not know, but it seems better then just canceling the entire event (on such short notice). The players would be very unhappy, but if still willing to play (if she could at least pay them 50% of their winnings, and owe them the rest, to be paid ASAP), then at least the fans could still watch a good tournament. Also, what about the money that needs to be paid at the door, to watch the tournament? That money could be added to the tournament prize pool. I know, I am forgetting about all of the expenses that it might cost to hold the event. I just think that maybe there may have been some way that she could still hold the event, as planned, if she had contacted all of the players to let them know, and heard their feedback, about if they could still attend or not. Why is it that 1 single sponsor backing out would be enough for the event to have to be canceled? She did say that she could probably sue the sponsor, and hopefully still be able to get the money (money that could hopefully soon be paid back to the players).

I just looked at the registered player list. Over 300 players had signed up. I had thought the problem might be low turnout. I wonder how many were expected.

There's a lot we don't know Bob. Let's hope that all 300 at least get their entry fee money back. I'd rather not say any more.

Didn't read a thread, tho since the seventies, I've seen tournament situations like this Thread....Surface many times.

300 players that's allot.

Did they have the table count and Time to pull it off?

Texas always does things big, is the player count of 300 a verified true number? Or just a ten gallon hat?

Fishy seems to be going on, and her names at stake, so I'm hoping for the best for you all.

Been there done that....more than once.

No, justin...just...no.

For the Tornado Open in Atlantic City, only 37 professional men and 39 professional women registered .
Those are very small fields for such a heavily promoted event.

If I was waiting for a refund I think I would at least contact the cc used for payment and see if they could assist with getting this refund.

I agree. I have not heard of anyone not receiving their refund. I am positive their voices would have been heard by now, LOUD and CLEAR. :p

I think it is a little early to say. People were told (above) that it might take 10 days for payment to clear the bank. I think today is the first weekday after that 10 day period due to Veterans' Day.

As for the count I gave of players, that was directly from the tournament's website -- there is a page with the names of all the players in all the divisions. Maybe they were all paid.

Just checked and it's nothing as of yet. The entry is not a lot of money, but it's nice to hear that I'll at least be getting some back.

I haven't received mine, either. According to my math, they have until Friday until people start making a stink.

I'd think with her working for the Casino's in FL, that taught her how too watch her back. Time is needed, as it's been said.

And people wonder why pool suffers financially and is looked down upon by most any business person with a brain and check book.

Hmmm... Lawyer at $200 an hour, probably 20 hours minimum to do that kind of job. .... No sponsor yet. $43.92 in my pocket. Whatever will I do?

Not that I necessarily disagree with you, but for pool it's not the sort of path most can/will take.

I'm reminded of the time the PBTA (men's pro tour) had a sponsorship from Camel. Somehow the tour ended up short $400,000 in the prize funds due to "other sponsors" who pulled out. Camel decided they didn't want to be involved any more and it cost them $800,000 when they were sued.

Oh, and somehow the players who were owed the $400k still didn't get paid.

Wow, so who ended up with the money from the lawsuit, which was won I assume. That is horrible that the players were not paid back out of that money, from the lawsuit.
