Wanted/For Sale Forum Rant

Hmmmm, if you are not participating, why do you suggest change?

Well... I didn't say I wasn't participating, I just said I was not putting much up for sale. I also like to look to see what's available because I do buy cues and do some trading. I got frustrated going on and seeing the same cues on the first page all the time.

My suggestion would be to have a standardized form. There are to many posts in the wanted/for sale forum that have incomplete info. I think it may cut down the posts if there was a template that had all the essential cue descriptions. ie shaft diameter, shaft ferrule material, weight of shaft, weight of butt etc, cue maker, wood combos. I see to many posts have cue for sale $500 with a blurry pic and no details and then you have 5 bumps / posts for additional details.
Thanks for listening.

Very wise post. Fully agree.

We need standard rules and enforcement.

In the FOR SALE Section, there should be NO:

  • "Where's Johnny" threads
  • How much is my 1/1 DP worth
  • Anyone have contact info for John Doe
  • Thanks to von for another great cue
  • PayPal sux
  • Will trade 64 Plymouth for nice cue (really selling a car)
  • Look what I found on eBay!
  • My thing is for sale on eBay (but NOT on AZ)
  • Is this a good deal?
  • Anyone see this on Craigslist?
  • PM for price
  • Email for pics
  • "I know this isn't the right place, but...."
  • I might be selling this (but not now)
  • I just won this - anyone want to buy it (I don't actually have it yet)
  • Is this taper roll?

The vast majority of all forums require a price, pics, and that the item be available for forum members to purchase (not "only" listed on eBay).

PS While I'm ranting, include the LOCATION of the Tournament in the *&^% thread Title!!!!! (REALLY should be mandatory)

I am not opposed to sub-forums within the Wanted/For Sale Forum, as it may actually may make certain sought after items easier to find...production cues, custom cues, production cases, custom cases, accessories.

But along with the aforementioned, I think that iTrader isn't exactly working as it should, so I would like to see a sub-forum where the names and info of those who have been guilty of poor dealings or straight-up rip-offs is listed. Not only do I think it would be much easier to get this information quicker, but it would also alleviate the multiple forum postings when such a thing happens....kinda like a Hall of Shame.

I have to say I totally agree with your suggestions here.
Even in this economy I believe those that are turning
a buck on this website should help support this site
through some sort of funding, IMO it's only fair.
My Opinion:
Cues, Cases & Pool Tables W/FS section:
1. Club Members sell with no fees.

2. $2 Insertion fee to sell if you are not a Club Member.
(This way if you only sell a few things a year it only cost a couple of bucks, This is very fair)

3. 48 Hour restriction between bumps.
(you should not have to sit by your computer all day to keep over aggressive sellers from pushing your post 15 pages back in one day.)

4. No Comments allowed.
(What's the point of comments? You can't give honest opinions on
pricing or quality if your opinion is negative so what are you going
to learn from a one sided love fest?)
(If you have questions use PMs, Emails, Phone calls)

Accessories W/FS section:
1. Have a separate section for everything else.
No restrictions, No fees

Look, I am not a dealer and I only do a few deals here and there
but something needs to be done to clean things up. The above changes
proposed IMO would go along way to make things fair for Dealers & Non-Dealers alike.
The same Cues & Cases wont have 10 pages of bumps
that push everyones else back to purgatory in just hours.
If you are selling here IMO it is your's & my Obligation to financially
support the web site that provides the platform for you to turn a buck.

IMHO a few clear rules regarding posting and bumping should be all that's needed....followed up by some strict enforcement of those rules (a Wanted/FS cop). These problems have more to do with the wrong stuff being posted in this forum section, inappropriate posting and bumping, etc. The cue market continues to be flooded in a touch economy. Is anyone really surprised that this forum has gotten to the state it's in.

I will say that two of the things I agree wholeheartedly about... If your gonna sell something, get spec's and post them.
If you're original intent is to sell it on ebay - not AZ, then it doesn't belong on the AZ WFS section. There are some very well known, and respected, members that do this all the time. Being respected doesn't make them right in doing so. You wanna sell it on Ebay, go do it. Wanna sell it on AZ... spit out a price, add obo, and take the offer you like.

I could support many of your recommendations, but I think some comments, questions, answers, etc. are appropriate and add useful decision-making information. Sometimes the seller just forgets to put some relevant information in the original post. If a question is asked and answered publicly, it may save many PM's from being sent back and forth between the seller and various potential buyers. Yes, it would be nice to reduce some of what Jamie called "chatter" by friends or minions of the seller -- chatter whose only real purpose is another bump -- but I don't think it would be good to prohibit all comments.

I would say if the seller gets PMs asking specific questions on "specs" and other pertinent information then I would think the Seller would have enough common sense to edit his post to include any pertinent information that he/she initially left out.

I like AZBilliards just the way it is. No it is not perfect but what is. The seller can arrange his post anyway he wants as long as it is pool releated. If you as the buyer don't like it...DON"T BUY IT!!! This subject reminds me of a dog chasing it's tail, getting nowhere fast. Since I like to find the positive in everything, this post did make me get off my lazy @$$ and get my club membership. I have been wanting to do it for months.

What we have now is good for sure.
I believe with a few tweaks here and there
we can take something good and make it GREAT!!!
And when we make it great we can look for ways to make it
STELLAR!!! and so on.........

Life like business you are either moving forward or
you are moving your way out the door. The Laws of Nature.
If people find a better experience someone else they will
migrate. So I say lets keep AZ on top and moving forward

My Take

The for sale section should be divided into 4 subclasses. Cues, cases, videos/educational and miscellaneous equpiment. The raffle section was added on, Why cant these? The mods should come up with a basic template for the listing of cues. Brand, weight, diameter, # shafts, condition, etc. These should not be optional. If you leave out any of these pieces of info, then it wont let you list it. Then at the bottom of the listing, there could be a small area to add on anything about the cue that isnt asked in the above. I guess its story if you will. But that would be optional. As far as bumps go, I would set it up to where a seller cant post on his own thread. All the pertinent info is already there. As a matter of fact, there should be no posts. It should all go thru pm. After 7 days, the listing automatically gets bumped to the top.

It is noone elses business is A buys a cue from B. And once a sale is done, the thread should be able to be deleted by the seller or marked as "Transaction Completed" and it is deleted.

I will agree it sux seeing the same ole **** everytime I look here. I love cues. I like looking at them. Every now and then I buy one. And every now and then I sell one. There are definitely some things that could be done to improve the functionality of the site, whether they are done or not, we'll see.

Oh yes, BTW, this isnt the place for this thread, the main forum is.

If nothing is for sale it shouldn't be in the for sale section, such as this post! This is not helping the items that are for sale from being pushed to the back! As for what should be done or not should be left up to the mods. I noticed most that are posting in this illegal thread are NOT MEMBERS if you want to help AZ why don't you join? And if you are not a MEMBER what makes you think you have the right to change the rules already in place?
just wondering who you think you are? Ron

Last time I checked....I have been a member since '04...over 6 yrs now. If you are trying to tell me that I have no say-so because I am not a Club Member...well, I feel like over 6 years of posts with valid content, and avoiding conflicts counts for just as much if not more than $35 in Club Member fees. Are you trying to say that being a Club Member buys you validation and/or a bigger voice than those who are not?

In that 6 years, I have sold a total of 4 cues and 2 cases...so I have not abused the Wanted/For Sale forum as others may have...and all of my deals were done cleanly, with happy customers. If I were selling on a more frequent basis, I would very likely be a Club Member, because I was making money off the site, and should probably kick some back for the exposure.

I'd like to think that my consistently stellar reputation here speaks for itself.

Lisa I didn't quote you,and I thought your name would be BLUE if you was a MEMBER...This post has nothing for sale in it! It should not be here PERIOD...And I see alot of people posting here that sell alot of stuff that are not MEMBERS...I don't understand everyone wanting to change AZ's rules as for bumping sale threads and this thread is in the wrong section resulting in pushing items that are for sale further back so they must bump them back to the front. The very thing they are whining about. We have enough RULES but they are not being observed in this post! Ron

Gotcha! I was kinda wondering...as you are normally a level-headed poster...and I was kinda hoping that I was misunderstanding your post...which, I apparently did! :sorry:

Hey no offense.. but if you want to discuss a particular forum, the post definately should be in that forum. If I wanted to address a concern in the cue review section about cue reviewing I wouldn't post it in the tournament section.

It was started in the wrong section and as far as I know it takes a Mod. to move it to the right section ;)

But if it defeats the purpose!

JV No offense, but posting it here bumps items to the back that belong here and this bumping is what all the whinning is about in the first place! So the more we post here in this thread, in the wrong section the more I have to bump the Szamboti's to the front because we both know GUS and BARRY should be on PAGE 1 . I don't mean to step on anyones toes but this is the wrong section for this thread PERIOD! Ron
