Simple question. I see cues advertised with things like "lift at the joint" and "slight roll in butt".

In your opinion does that impact playability? I'm not talking shaft because you can always screw a different shaft on the butt.

If your tip impacts the cue ball where you are aiming to hit it, then what matters in between doesn't matter.

Stroke errors might be magnified with a warped butt or shaft.

How MUCH lift or bend are we talking about here?

I mean, if it was significantly bad then it would mess with my psyche.

My main player has a slight lift at the joint. Used to be worse but it straightened some over the last year. No effect on play that I can notice but if you saw me play you would think it's a big problem :D

When I can play better than my cue, I'll get back to you.

Until then, I say no. 'cept in yer head.

I see I’m in the minority here.....I want my cue to be straight.

Imagine the greatest break ever made...the cue had to be straight, otherwise you’re losing
energy.....on a side spin shot, if the warp is with the spin, it’ll be fine...if the warp is against
the spin, you’ll get more deflection and less spin.

Pretty sure knockout punches work the same way...the bones line up from the knuckles
to the elbow.

pt...prepared to be educated on the knockout punch part...lousy fight record...

Here's what I'm thinking. If the cue isn't straight - not just a taper roll - then the tip isn't contacting the cue ball in the exact spot I want it to. I'm putting half a tip of unintended top/bottom/left/right on the cue ball. If I was to aim a laser from the center of the butt it wouldn't come out at the center of the tip if the butt is lifting.

If I'm on a bar box with buckets it might not matter as much. If I'm playing 14.1 on a 9' table it matters.

As long as the bend is NOT in the stroking area of your shaft it does not matter. If in the butt it matters even less. Not one of you, including myself, do not have a perfectly straight stroke to begin with. I've talked to several pros at tournament, and they all said the same thing. Don't let it get into your head.

If you are trying to sell the warped cue, it doesn't matter.

If you are buying, it's a really big deal!

Brilliant thought, Larry.

BTW...all of your cues that I have are all still perfectly straight!
