Was it slop, or was it intentional?

KIM: If he spins it, he can't hold no rug nowhere.

I love the jargon back then. :grin-square:

That is some good commentating. I don't think he was playing the shot*, but I am wrong fairly often.

* playing the safe, not the ball going in.

I remember this match. Skill on the safe slop on the ball going in.

Hard to find two more colorful players than these two. Moro would run more racks jumping up in the air than a lot of players with perfect looking fundamentals.

Thank you for posting I know people have their negative stories about Keith, but my one encounter with him was very positive. I was watching the finals at a tournament (Archer vs Mike Defino) at the old Sands in Vegas during the 90's Keith was sitting directly in front of me. I was new to watching pro pool and trying to understand the patterns and he started doing a play by play commentary from the stands. Definitely informative and he spoke low enough to not distract the players.

I was going to have Keith post on this thread about that shot, but I'm now having second thoughts. Not worth subjecting him to the forum troll(s). Not sure why the same member(s) continues to jump in and out of threads for the sole purpose of ruining them with mean-spirited and flippant remarks.

You pool aficionados guessed right, though. The shot was intentional, but Keith said he played it with having two safeties in mind, just in case, thanks to the placement of two of the balls on the felt. If he missed, he would have played safe, leaving his opponent an impossible or tough shot.

Buddy Hall put Keith in this event, but there were restrictions that Buddy placed on Keith, which are comical, but you'll have to read all about it another time, I guess.

Have a great weekend, everybody! :)

Thanks for posting the video!
Speaking of reading all about it, how's the book coming?

2 Way

I always thought it was shot as a 2 way shot, and Keith was just surprised as everyone else that it went in.

There is an match that Efren and Strickland play, and Efren shoots a safety and a ball accidently goes in. Efren follows with one of best "zig-zag" shot to make the ball and then runs out.

Keith could have easily made the ball and then be left with a VERY tough shot.

Lucky? Maybe. But the key is Keith was at the table and gave himself the OPPORTUNITY to win.

Wish there were more videos of Keith, but he was just a little too early before the technology caught up.

Book is finished. It's a read that will be received well by action enthusiasts. :grin-square:

Funds to expend on publishing are tight at this time. Time needed to make it happen is also in short supply due to me being a perfectionist.

We intend to sell product to raise funds for financing the publishing expenses. We're currently investigating product to sell on the website at this time. When we have a good array of products for sale, we will be updating this website: http://boogieinthedark.com

T-shirts, coffee mugs, autographed pictures and the like won't cut the mustard. I'm trying to think of some new and innovative pool products that would be popular that Keith could sell. A Keith bobblehead comes to mind.

His speed would put the Ob on the rail for an easy safe. He got lucky and found the side pocket. I don't think a two way shot ever crossed his mind.

Jennie,

Why not try a Kickstarter campaign for publishing the book? It doesn't cost anything to try and I think you'd be surprised at the amount of support you'd get.

Thank you, Jim. That is a good suggestion, but I have seen other pool-related entities use vehicles like that, and they were ridiculed and ripped to shreds on this forum and elsewhere for daring to ask the pool public for help. I don't want to go down that road. :embarrassed2:

I always try to live within a budget and not beyond our means. It's a tough nut to crack making ends meet. I keep playing the PowerBall, playing my numbers each week. I buy one ticket 10 weeks in advance. One of these days . . . :D

Yeah I understand. Well I have a suggestion for a product for the website then. Dianna Hoppe and Earl Strickland put out 2 DVDs of just Earl sitting i chair telling road stories. I would love to see with Keith!! Plus you could plug the book on the DVD.

The bobblehead is a great idea! I'd buy one for sure :)

Love you two, let me know if there's anything I can do to help.

I would be in on this too.

Not a bobblehead, Keith telling road stories. I don't know if Keith had a "consistent backer" like Buddy Hall and David Matlock, but if he was still around that would make a fine pair for a great discussion.

JMO

I wish you both the best,

Ken

Is that you on the right in your avetar?

You have came with enough good short stories yourself over the few years I have been here to let me know that you have been around for a while. I would seriously read a book from you too and I dont even know your real story, who you are, etc. I just know you have some good stories in you.

Advance book sale??/ I'm in

Hi Jam..

I would be more than happy to prepay for a book.

Maybe others would be too.

I have no expertise at this, and I don't know if that(pre-release sale) would help with getting the book to market, but perhaps, having a sense of the numbers of interested, committed buyers could be useful in gauging book pricing and related publishing cost.

Have you spoken to Jay or Cotton about the publishing process? Maybe they could pass on some advice and suggestions, if you have not already done so.

Hope you 'getterdone' sooner than later...by whatever funding mechanism.

Keep us posted please.

Every successful person has endured negativity. Easier said than done but try not to let it get you down.

Regarding the two way shot that is precisely why I don't care for the new 10 ball rules when if a player misses a shot the opponent can give the shot back. This rule removes two way shots from the game and they are some of the most creative shots in the game.

Good luck with the book.
