We All Lost Dear Friend - Bob Byrne

A sad loss for the pool and billiard community.

Bob was putting out great information in his books, back in the day, when info about the game was scarce: "Byrne's Standard Book of Pool and Billiards," "Byrne's Treasury of Trick Shots in Pool and Billiards," "Byrne's Wonderful World of Pool and Billiards Advanced Technique in Pool and Billiard," "Byrne's Complete Book of Pool Shots," and "Byrne's Book of Great Pool Stories." And of course he also wrote the most entertaining book ever on the sport: "McGoorty The Story of a Billiard Bum."

My condolences to his friends and family.

RIP Bob Byrne. When I was younger and learning (still learning) to play the game, his book the Standard Book of Pool and Billiards was the text on playing. As others have said, he will live on through his contributions and writing.

Very sad news. He was a great person. My condolences to his family.

Sorry to hear of Bob's passing.
Condolences to his family and many friends.

I called him once out of the clear blue, and even though he didn't know me from Adam, he was willing to talk for over an hour. A wonderful, warm, and generous human being. I consider myself very lucky that he saw fit to mention me in one of his books.

We will all miss him greatly.

The first training video I ever watched was Mr. Byrne instructing fundamentals and other aspects of the sport.
I also have most of his books.

Sometimes I forget that the game is timeless, but humanity is not.
When a pool player passes, I am reminded to enjoy this sport and cherish my time at the table for one day it will no longer be possible.

I will be watching that old video again in memory of Mr Byrne. And in doing so, I'll be realizing the timeless joy of playing pool, even if the events of the table do not go as planned...to smile and relax, because its an honor to just be at the table.

My prayers to his family.

RIP. Condolences to family and friends. His books were legendary. I also enjoyed his commentary on Accu Stats 3 cushion tapes.

Very sad to hear. I had a few communications via snail mail with him and have an autographed first edition of McGoorty as well as his pool how-to books. What little I know of the great game of Three Cushion Billiards I owe to Bob Byrne. You'll be missed Bob! RIP.

Sorry to hear this sad news. I too have a couple of his books that I refer to often. Perhaps a year ago or so, there was a 60 minutes interview of Bob by Harry Reasoner I thought was well done. His books and videos will continue to inspire - RIP Mr Byrne. My condolences to his family and friends.

His books got me hooked on pool. Another Hall of Famer passes. Sad.

Rest in peace Mr. Byrne.

Sad news

Thoughts, condolences and Prayers for Mr. Byrnes Family, Friends, Loved ones and many, many enthusiasts Worldwide.

First pool book I ever purchased ( Standard ) when I really needed to know more and go back to fundamentals. Loved it. Then snagged more of his books. Bob's books all rest on my Coffee Table and that is where they just stay. They get picked up, read, re-read and looked at, re-looked at all the time. Helped me a bunch and Lord knows I need all the help I can get.

R.I.P and God Bless Mr. Byrne's you will be missed by many but never forgotten.

-Kat,

Co-incidentally, I have been going through New Standard book of Pool and Billiards for the past couple of weeks, and watching his videos.
I'll miss his wry style and enthusiasm for the games.
Condolences to the family and friends of a great promoter of cuesports, Robert Leo Byrne.

Oddly enough, the only times I met Robert Byrne was at a couple of 3-cushion tournaments. He was very friendly and more than happy to chat.

He wrote the best books ever written on cuesports, so his legacy is safe.

RIP, Mr. Byrne. Your loss is felt by all who love cuesports. I'm just proud to have made your acquaintance.

Here is a nice post on Facebook that was posted on Bob's Facebook page:

Bob passed away at home Tuesday night at 9:30, peacefully and painlessly with his son Russell and wife Cindy at his side. Since he was a man of quotes, this is a good one: "Tears are sometimes an inappropriate response to death. When a life has been lived completely honestly, completely successfully, or just completely, the correct response to death's perfect punctuation mark is a smile." - Julie Burchill
