We NEED a new rule for the wanted/for sale section

Is it possible to make a rule that if you are selling something you MUST list a price? I am a member of several other (non-billiard) sites that also have a classified section and they all REQUIRE a price to be listed in the ad or it gets removed.

I know I'm not the only one who is sick of looking at ads with no price or "private sale" or "pm me for price". WTF? If you're trying to sell something list a price. Otherwise put it back in the case/safe and keep it. The only reason I can think of for not posting a price is because it's way too high and you're trying to take advantage of someone or rip them off.

There, I said it. I feel better now.

I would like to hear other's opinions so feel free to respond.

thats the beauty of the wanted/fs section. if you been here long enough youd know mods dont get involved in sales. good bad whatever. thats why u dont get banned for ripping ppl off. youll get banned for cursing about it. its a loosing battle. ppl choose to list items as the want. is it better for the sale no... but its their choice. this rule is not possible

I've voiced the same complaint about no prices but someone claimed that for higher end cues, a price and picture would "automatically alienate at least half of the potential buyers". He said that such buyers value privacy. I'm still not sure whether this is true, but it's an interesting argument from an experienced seller.

The only buyer it would alienate are the one's who can't afford it. I know if I see a cue that I like but the price is too high a just go on to the next one. Lets face it, we all have a budget. It doesn't matter if half the buyers lose interest when they see the price, if they can't afford it they're not going to buy it when you pm them the price either. It's just a waste of time.

That being said, I can understand the hesitancy to post pictures of super high end cues for fear that someone might use them elsewhere to try and scam someone.

As far as enforcing the suggested rule, it's quite simple. There is an option to report a thread so just use it to bring it to the mods/admin's attention. Then they have the opportunity to send the seller a pm asking him to list a price or remove the post. Very simple.

No Need for More Rules....

IMHO, we don't need this type of rule. If you don't like the way someone posts a F/S thread let them know that by making a subtle post to their thread if you feel the need and/or drop them a PM. If you don't give a flip about a F/S thread W/O a price then don't bother following the thread!? This is a really good public forum and a pretty darn good place to buy/sell/trade/etc. I'd hate to have to be one of the folks monitoring all this stuff -- that's for sure! Just my $.05 worth :grin-square:

i agree somewhat but i don't even think you should post anything in THEIR thread......regardless of what anyone thinks, a person has the right to post what THEY want, the way THEY want, for THEIR benefit. NOT the way YOU want...PERIOD.....if you have an issue, stop reading, ignore the thread...whatever... or suck it up and deal with them in the way THEY chose....... that's the long and short of it......

skins..................don't like it?.....get over it and move on......life's too short....

Its up to the seller how he lists. If he loses possible sales because of it then its his problem. If I'm interested in it, it only takes 10 seconds to send a PM.
If its a fair price, I'll deal, if not, I lost 10 seconds and click on the next ad.

taptaptap.....

I agree with you Skinny -- what I was thinking when I said that is this.....If, I wanted you to quote a price that I may simply ask you for that in the thread and, perhaps suggest it may be helpful to post a price or pics or whatever!? :groucho:

I would also like to add:

1. Must have pictures.
2. If no pictures, please have link to Production cue.
3. No, Email for pictures.
4. Price with shipping included. Don't waste time giving a price then saying + shipping. WHy don't we just calculate and add $8-12 in the price and paypal fees as well. Please no more plus 3% or 4% paypal fees...

NO: $550 + 4% + Shipping + APR - Good driver rewards + State Fees + OSHA

Just: $600 shipped to your door (I'll take care of the rest, pay me sucka, I need money to buy some other stuff I really don't need but it looks so cool and I gots to have it.)

I agree.....Great post.

Asking price should be a must. I Hate the "make me an offer posts". If you are looking for an auction or bidding war post on FLEA-BAY. That is why I joined the AZ community (be direct) with your asking price. Less hassle and less BS. Just my honest opinion.

i can live with people not listing prices. its no sweat off my back to ask a price.

it's this taking down payments/deposits and never shipping anything that really get under my skin

Pictures and full description with details are a must. Asking for offers, not really a big deal IMHO. If you know cues well enough, you can guess the range of the value. Ultimately the price is what you can afford, otherwise no point in buying it if you can't afford it. I'm not bugged by no price even though I post prices on my own for sale threads. I just think a price will help sell the item faster.

If you need to know how much

You probably can't afford it!
Collectable cues are a private matter between buyer and seller.
I used to post prices but kept raising them until the cues were sold. Go figure.
Now I would just a soon not even post a picture, let alone a price!
Good reputations sell cues. The rep of the builder sells cues. The rep of the seller sells cues. Price seldom is a object to many collectors as long as it is a private sale.
If you haven't spent oer 5K on a cue you will never understand anything I just said!

I think we have enough rules in this great country of so called freedom..!!! Last thing we need is people telling you how you should list your item to make there shopping or choices easier..!!! I personaly don't like a add with no pics or price but it's my choice to click the next add & most the time I do..!!! But sometimes I do pm on certain sales that catch my eye..!!! But with this market on some cues it may work out to not list a price in hopes that someone will offer you a price that the cue used to bring before the market took a downward turn..!!! I see cues that would sell for $2000+ go for $1400-$1600...now don't list a price & maybe someone may offer a price close to what you want or maybe more..!!! But most of you should have the right to list your cue how you want...!!!

PS: If you want to sell your cue fast...list pics, price, phone # & lowest price with S/H & fees included in your price...Bonus: listing what you paid for it & what it would sell for in a normal market for people that may not know what they're looking at..!!!

If you are not going to post a price don't get pissed off when someone low balls you. There are a few gorgeous custom cues now and again for sale with the "make me an offer" post and I have absolutely no clue what a fair price would even be. JMHO if you are selling a cue have an idea of what you are looking to get for it. Or perhaps list a price followed by "OBO". Give the buyer a starting point.

I would agree that most of the time a price is a good thing, but some times it is not--particularly for very collectable higher end items. Buyers of those cues often do not want others to know what they paid and it is important to respect that, IMO.
