Please fill in the blank.....for me 1proscoe might have seen a few things coming...vague but a few people will understand..

I am in a weird spot myself right now....I have listed cues for sale here for VERY CHEAP and don't get any hits or FINALLY got it sold to that one special person, when I was expecting 20 people or so to jump on it....As far as buying the last 5 cues or so I bought have left a bad taste in my mouth as I did a few deals with friends or friends of friends and 13mm shafts were 12.5 and 19ozs was 20ozs, and then I'm stuck actually being HONEST when I try to sell it:eek:

Either way I have moved into watches and I think I might put most of my money in them for a few months and take a break from cues. Hell, I cant even make a post without a phone call:grin::eek:

I'm in a weird spot too...as a buyer...

(I'm not sure this is the direction that the OP wanted the thread to head in)

but mine is a cheap issue...

I bought a shaft that was described as a JOSS, with black collar, straight, and 13mm.

It was straight, it was 13mm, but it IS NOT a JOSS...it's junk, aftermarket crap.

I didn't say anything to the seller...because I travel a lot...and I don't have time to deal with it...but at the end of the day, I'm screwed out of my money...I'll most likely throw the shaft away.

Revised Post... !!!

I would like to commend the person of whom I purchased the shaft from...

He has contacted me, when he saw this post...and has been extremely adamant to resolve the issue!!!

I have no problem with my seller, We are working out the details, and I'm completely satisfied with his integrity !!! and his determination to resolve the problem...!!!

Thanks, Mickey, for posting this...as I most likely wouldn't have tried to work this out in any direction...and I would have eaten the loss.

thanks guys for the response....you guys get what i was asking....

Where do I stand?

Flat on my back....

I can't see myself ever buying another used cue. On the other side, I doubt I will order anymore cues unless it is from the very top tier cuemakers. I will honor my existing orders, but the cue "tasting" is pretty much over.

For me personally I prefer to buy & sell in person. The WFS section here is a good place to display something for sale and then sell locally. I have had an excellent transaction with Jamie Wernsman on a Kikel Cue which in turn led me to order and receive a new Kikel Cue recently. The new Kikel came directly from Dave and that transaction as well as the one with Jamie were flawless in every way. Escrow may just be the only way I'd get involved in a deal through the AZ community at this particular time. JMO!

I have been trying to buy a new break cue for a while i so want the Joss Thor, But i happed to have a BK2 butt with just a few dings on the finish but to replace the Shaft of the BK2 is around the same price of the Joss Thor.

Do i really want to buy a used BK2 Shaft these days ?

I too have worked with Jamie to acquire a very nice Kikel at a very fair price. Jamie is helping me get a Barenbrugge at present and has a couple of longer term projects in the works he is helping me with. Absolute great guy to deal with all the way around.

As a buyer...

From now on I might ask for ID, a photo license and a written background on any cue that I buy. Even at a show. As a dealer, I can only tell a buyer what I have been told about a cue when I bought it.

There are a lot of times when I get a cue and I explain, I know you say the finish is original, but it looks brand new and your shafts are 12.25 and bluer than the ocean. So I don't think the cue is that original. But someone with a lot of experience should be able to see finish on a butt cap, and know that didn't come out of a certain shop like that.

I also wonder how I can see the same cue year after year, and year after year it is UNHIT. WTF would you buy the cue and not play with it. 12 owners and NO ONE hit a ball. Come on, really.

I have had good luck buying, trying, collecting and selling. Haven't been stuck yet (knock on wood). Really feel for those who have, like Chris.

That being said, I am done. I have a few nice cues that I am keeping in my safe and a few on order. The others are going to be sold off whether I make a penny on them or not.

The market is flodded with cues and flaky people. Not to mention all the low ballers out there have seeemd to multiply by the thousands.

Cautiously...
I guess I've been pretty lucky, out of the dozen or more cues acquired over the last 2 and a half years, they've all been as expected. Including the Owen cue from you Mickey...appreciate that bud!!

These latest events will certainly stick with me, but there are "good guys" out there...particulary the guys that offer a "no questions asked" return policy. When I sold my Gina and Lambros...I told the buyers they had 48 hrs. to try out the cue. If for any reason they weren't happy, send it back in the same condition, and I would fully refund their money less shipping. After receiving the cue, I did a follow up pm asking how the liked their new purchase...both were pleased, and everyone felt good about the transaction...
This is how it should be done IMHO...
Keep the faith...there's still some honest people out there in cue-land...

As a buyer -

Every week that goes by...I find another person on AZB I refuse to do any business with. Some are dealers...some are flakes...and some are "unknowns" who sound a lot like previously banned members.

There's a list of folks that I know I can trust...and they will continue to get my business. The rest can shovel their crap elsewhere.

I'm not a buyer whose money will make or break any dealer or seller...but money is money, and I'll invest mine where I know I'll get what I pay for.

Yes - Jamie is on that list. That dude is awesome.

Same with Sean. I've only bought one cue from him - but it was 10x better than he described it to me. He erred on the side of caution, just so his customer got BETTER than what he was expecting. That holds a lot of weight with me.

As for general AZB members - you know who you are!!!

Up to now i must tell that i have only good experience,on the other hand i make deals only with respectable members like Bamacues,Worminator,Thediamond,Cliffy,Abbott...etc

On the other hand my opinion is that most the cues are overpriced, and dont have such a value like presented.

As for the future,i decide to purchase only from 3 or 4 cuemakers that i like, didnt mean directly from them, but the cues made by specific cuemaker.

Must say that im very disapointed with assistance that the cuemakers give for their cues,i try and try many times to contact few of the respectable cuemakers, never receive any respond from them, even i was asking only for refinish of their cues and new shafts.im sure there are few of them that respond to messages.

Only my opinion

About the same way that I feel when I see a beautiful chopper at a bike rally with 2 miles on the odometer. Ride that b****! There's one reason and one reason only that I want to buy a cue: to improve my game. I will admit that there are breathtaking cues for sale here, and I acknowledge that an incredible amount of highly skilled work went into them. But I'm in the market for, to me at least, a tool. My Craftsman ratchet doesn't have scrollwork or gold leaf, but it looks good enough to me and dammit, it gets the work done!

As for buying a used cue, the only way I'd do that is if I can hold it in my hands and at least look it over, preferably hit a few with it. I might consider buying a used or "like new" cue if I've played with one like it or at least by the same maker.

For now, unless I can find a Wilhite in my price range, I'm probably going to get a cheap DP and put an OB-2 on it based purely on hit quality.

As a seller, I'm not in the market. Wellll, except one cue I might move if a certain opportunity comes up.

As a buyer, I am only buying directly from the cue makers. I currently have 5 in various stages of build (one will be delivered this week) and another 3, possibly 4, that I am on the order list for.

I only have two bad experiences buying directly from the builder.

I don't plan to buy any more cues on the secondary market. The past 10 years or so I've bought and sold about 50 cues to try to figure out what I like. I'm about dead even on them, money-wise, so I've been pretty lucky.

I seriously doubt that I will purchase a cue from anyone other than a dealer, and it will likely be a production cue, with a manufacturers warranty.

Way too much to have to deal with, otherwise.

Sadly, that paints a whole bunch of very reputable and talented people into a group in which they do not belong. And perhaps, were I to be given a chance to develop a relationship with such a cuemaker, perhaps I would change my attitude. Short of that, what little money I can spare to spend on fun stuff is too precious for me to risk, and my time in resolving potential drama parties (see the main forum for yet another example) is also too short and precious, as well.

Fortunately, the cue making industry isn't losing much from my personal decision. Hopefully mine isn't the prevailing opinion...

Cues.

Although I have had only positive experiences buying and selling cues, I am done buying, as I have been playing with the same cue for almost two and a half years now, my Tascarella. I also have an OliveWood Joey cue, and one of the last Zlyrs that Kerry ever made (finished by Joey). I have sold off everything else, and only have three cues on order. If I get them, great, if I don't, it's ok.

Positive

I have purchased allot of cues over the past year from dealers and individuals. I have had a very positive experince and met many great people who I look forward to knowing. I did have one bad experience early on with a person, not a dealer, who misrepresentd a titlist conversion. Howver, I put that behind me and felt I should have researched the seller better as he had little feedback.

I collected custom knives and never had a problem in all the years.. However, I ran into two bad apples in the same week and that spoiled the experience. I was at a point where I wanted nothing to do with the forum. However, I met so many good people there I did not want tohose two bad apples spoil it. I returned after a week i was over them.

It is better to move forward, as difficult as it may be. Enjoy the forum and what it has to offer. By getting to know people, you will be able to find things you migh want much sooner than waiting years on a list.

all the best,
Phil
