Westinghouse's trade name for all of their phenolics were, are, called Micarta. The type that was used in the past by many cue makers was called Yellow Micarta as, with age, it turned a yellow hue. This stuff is no longer made and has not been for many years and as it gets used up and rarer, it gets more expensive. The new owners of the Westinghouse trademark "Micarta" is making a substance that is also yellow in hue but is a different material than the original and highly desired, "Old yellow Micarta". In those pictures posted, the smaller piece may be some of the, old yellow Micarta but I really doubt the larger piece is although it could be another type of Micarta. Just the fact that a material is yellow in color and is a type of Micarta certainly doesn't make it the same as the original no more than a yellow colored Chevy is the same vehicle as a yellow colored Cadillac from just because they are both made by General Motors.

The smaller brown pc looks to be a paper or very fine weave phenolic.
The larger white pc, that's anybody's guess.
Actually, out of it, you'd be doing well to get 20 ferrules.

The smaller chunk is the fine old phenolic that looks orange i could get that as well
But here is a picture that i received from the Gentleman i bought this chunk from and he guarantees it to be westing house and i believe him

I believe him too.
.................................................

Here we go again:)

Let me start with some 'full disclosure' information.

I have sold quite a few ferrule and joint blanks of the 'old'
Westinghouse "yellow" Micarta - I've worked with the material for
over 30 years - and have had a supply stashed for decades.

Not trying to step on anybodys toes here, but the short version is:

this ain't the stuff...

As others have pointed out, Westinghouse used the 'brand' name Micarta
to reference all its industrial plastics - most of which were made
from phenolic resins - the orangey colored piece in your first pic
could very well be some Westinghouse Micarta

The white stuff certainly is, it just isn't what people seek for
ferrules - and now - joints.

If the pic had shown the NEEMA grade - one might be able to hazzard
a guess as to just which version of Micarta it is.

Another tip off - the rare ferrule material wasn't laminated - it also
wasn't phenolic, like many used to think.

Hope this helps.

After speaking to the gentleman he told me that it was bleached
But i don't know what that means at all either since this is all new to me
I'm just trying to stay honest here and would like to get my hands on a piece a sample so i could see what it is suppose to look like

A quick visit to the search page yields the following picture:

The sides were freshly cut, but the top is starting to display the familiar yellow color of the real stuff.
Dale (PDCUE) is undoubtedly the resident expert on the material, and this doesn't look like it.

A pic reference on the cue.The yellow one is old micarta the one in the middle is Ivory and the bottom one is some kind of phenolic(i think). The micarta is piss yellow and the shaft looks like a cube of chalk but I have never cleaned it and kind of like the old used look

Correct, and the reason it is no longer available is that instead of a linen weave, canvas or even paper based, it was asbestos based. This makes it even more toxic to work with than the auto clearcoats that are killing off a lot of cuemakers, slowly! I had a piece large enough to make about 150 ferrules and opted to get rid of it instead of cutting it up. I sold it to an up and coming cuemaker friend of mine (Richard Harris) about 20 years ago and have felt guilty about it ever since. Richard, if you read this post, please be careful working with that stuff! (That's a reminder, I did inform him of the dangers when I sold it to him)

just more hot air!
