What Break Cue to buy now?

If that's Roger's old cue, I'd say its either first or 2nd generation. Pretty sure he picked it up directly from Richard Chan... before Samsara took over.

No clue of the value. I don't use jump or break cues really. Just my playing cue. But those things were AWESOME.

Had one exactly like it. The bumper was a replacement as well. The metal rings had a tendency to rise up. The breaker is good and jumps easily.
If in good condition $150 would be reasonable for a used cue but I'm not a dealer. That's about 50% of original cost if memory serves correctly.

Do you know what generation it is?

Original cues didn't have that bumper, it became an option that you could add.
However, the bumpers didn’t fit all the way in 1st generation cues.
Later the bumper became standard and would fit just fine.
I believe 1st and 2nd generation cues were basically the same construction.
Richard used a few different woods.
If bumper was added later then I would say this is 1st but I’m not 100%sure.

Perhaps, someone else will know.

Jacoby Heavy Hitter

At the last Derby City Classic, I spent a day trying various break cues & settled upon the Jacoby Heavy Hitter 24 oz cue.

It vastly decreased my percentage of coming up dry, however there is no substitute for technique so I suspect that I will spend the rest of my life trying to reach the cue's potential.

The extra weight permits me to explode the rack with less power thereby increasing my accuracy.

Bouska.

Ok, I've had 6 break cues in the past year. I've tried everything from a Predator to a Bunjee to a Schmelke. But I still haven't found one I liked. A few years ago I had 2 cheaper sneaky petes. One was a Players and the other was a no name. I had phenolic tips put on and they broke great!

My question is should I try that again, or buy a break specific cue. If I go that route I want to spend between $200-$300. I was looking at the Orange Crush, the Viking Fat daddy and a few others.

What would by fellow AZB brethren suggest?

I like different stuff! Nothing is more different than a Joe Bouska. Amarillo Texas I think. Sort of diamond wood like the Diamond tables shaft with odd taper close to joint. Another odd taper in the butt. Breaks like a freight train. Nothing matters if you don't control whitey.

Thanks for the input,I had to slightly cut the bumper but it fits just fine.I'm just not sure of the generation

where there significant changes between 1st & 2nd generation?
Witch generation is thought to be the better 1st 2nd 3rd

Another vote for Gulyasssy I have a sledgehammer jump break cue as well and love it.

The Mezz will probably be out of your price range, but they are great cues. Of course, the maker of Mezz is the same people who made Adam cues. Probably the best made production cue out there!

I would also recommend the Tiger Icebreaker! Their shafts and tips are the best. They are also legal in any tournament or league!

3rd generation made by Samsara is my current breaker.
None of the pins are quick release so it gets old to screw and unscrew the cue.
Samsara makes cues that last.
1st and 2nd generation have quality issues such as raised metal rings.

Performance wise they are the same.
If you are happy with your 1st generation x-breaker I would stick with it.

my new taper on all my break cues with the shaft freeze is the stone cold Hungarian nuts.

i would agree! i have a gulyassy anvil and that taper feels more comfortable than my ob classic shaft in my bridge. Anyone who picks up my cue notices that shaft freeze with in 5 seconds lol

I have a stinger cue, Jump/break for 150 dollars,,,,breaks the balls good.
Or I have a Cannon break or Jump/break for 160 dollars.....

Stinger weighs in around 18.4 oz.
Cannon weigh in around 23.6

Both cues break the balls very good, balls scatter very good........

Dave

2nd the Stinger. I have the McDermott version and I love breaking with it

Hello Mike, Are all your break & J&B cues being made here in America by you? Do both the Orange Crusher and The Anvil have shaft freeze? What are the differences between the Anvil and the Orange Crusher besides the price?

cannon

check out a cannon if you want a samsara or an Ice breaker tip no problem just add 20 usd shipping is free, usually usps priority sometimes ups but usually shipped with 24-48 hrs but these cues are not a production cue there is a lot of time done for the weighting of these cues so sometimes it could take up to a week but I promise it is worth the wait. cannonbreakcues.com is the best way to order. mention this thread and save 10 usd on your order. it will be paypaled back to you. after your order is placed if you mention in notes that you seen this thread. thanks for reading.

Is putting a break shaft on a butt that is just laying around worth it or is it better to spend the extra $150 and buy a whole cue?

If your butt has the right thread size...try this on ebay #320886238319

johnnysturn has the best deals on ebay.
