What Break Cue to buy now?

I have recently got a Jacoby edge from an AZ member (neilhin) a very good guy to work with. Well the cue is like a hand canon. I love this thing I have used several break cues. And have not found anything that breaks half as good as this thing. I would recommend it to anyone. It comes with Jacobys hybrid shaft. Can be seen here http://jacobycustomcues.com/ourcues.php?ID=Break Cue

Mezz Power Break II

I picked a Mezz Power Break II up a few weeks ago from Sean C. (http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=239454). I only used it for two nights (total of 6hrs) and then got my anniversary present from my wife on August 20th, which was the same cue. 6th year anniversary gift is wood.

I don't have the heart to tell her I already got one, so I'm going to sell this for what I picked I up for: $240.00 which includes CONUS shipping; buyer pays Paypal Fees. The photos in the link above is the exact cue being sold. The shaft is is awesome condition. Going to list in for sale section this weekend.
Cheers, Mark

Another vote here for the Orange Crusher by Mike G.

I had a cheapie Players break cue with a phenolic tip but got the Orange Crusher because it has the Samsarra tip and didn't want my league pals giving me crap for having a phenolic tip, since it isn't allowed in the leagues some of them play in.

I actually expected a lesser break since I was going away from the phenolic tip but I was thrilled to see how much better I was breaking with the Orange Crusher. I'm finally at the point where I'm realizing you don't have to smash the heck out of the rack if you have the right equipment and technique, my control has shot through the rough and my breaks are better than ever. All of that plus Mike G is a great guy to order from and deal with.

Bran, why is it that every time I read one of your posts, I get the sudden urge to have Sex?

Not with you of course.

Must be one of those sumblimital things.

I would try a Mezz Power Break I for your price range.

The Predator BK used to be my favorite until I tried a Mezz PB and PB Pro... best break cues I've ever used.

I usually get my stuff from Joe Nielson, he has great custom service and super fast shipping.

Mezz break cues. I'm about to buy a Power Break Pro with Deep Impact Pro R shaft.
But would love to hear some input.

Their break cues come in:
Power Break w/ Deep Impact Shaft
Power Break II w/ Deep Impact Shaft
Power Break Pro w/ Deep Impact Pro Shaft R or recently released H Shaft

We know that Pro shaft R is an improvement and H could be an improvement but don't know anyone who has tried it.

Has anyone tried PBII vs PBpro cue wise?
PBII is shorter and more adjustable.
Any opinions on which one is better?

Ok, I've had 6 break cues in the past year. I've tried everything from a Predator to a Bunjee to a Schmelke. But I still haven't found one I liked. A few years ago I had 2 cheaper sneaky petes. One was a Players and the other was a no name. I had phenolic tips put on and they broke great!

My question is should I try that again, or buy a break specific cue. If I go that route I want to spend between $200-$300. I was looking at the Orange Crush, the Viking Fat daddy and a few others.

What would by fellow AZB brethren suggest?

You gotta list everything youve tried before we can make suggestions

I currently use an McDermott I-1 shaft on a McDermott sneaky pete for breaking. It does the job pretty well. If I were to buy another break cue, it would probably be an Andy Gilbert break cue. That's little bit over your price range though.

If you can find one, get a genuine third generation X-Breaker. Best break cue ever made.
:p

See if you can get a hold of a Jacoby Edge - after going through quite a few like you, tried one of these and haven't looked back - great break cue.

That's quite some coincidence!

I thought there were 2 generations of X-breaker.
1st generation I got from Richard directly.
2nd was made by Samsara for Richard.

Luck would have it, I still have 2nd generation with 2 shafts - 345$ and it is yours. :)

If you do not need the full length, PBII butt is better because you get all the mass. However, IMO, the new PB Pro break shaft is better than the DI shaft that PBI and PBII come with. I have both Pro R and Pro H shafts. Both are good. I am now using a PBII butt with PB Pro H shaft which is heavier and harder than Pro R. I have to take out the weight bolt and 2 rings to reduce the total weight cause the shaft is very heavy. I like it very much. Now the break cue is very STIFF, front heavy and very stable.

You ask a question like this

and you will get a hundred different replies. I have estimated that a break cue improves your break about 15% from breaking with a playing cue. Now if that break cue allows you to make balls you wouldn't have and additionally to have better cue ball position afterwards, then it is certainly worth it.

Bottom line, for $65 you can get a J&J break/jump cue (I have bought 2 in the past, and have 2 shafts for mine), and try it. I am more than pleased with it, and didn not have to invest a lot of money to find out. In fact, I estimate it's real value to be more like $225, when considering value vs. performance. Mine have the phenolic tip. It's up to you, but do you want to invest say $300 or so in a break cue, and chance not being happy with it.

Friend I shoot with is a Mezz fan and has the newest Mezz break cue. Has a hell of a break.

When we are shooting together, he always breaks with my OB.

Just saying

I use an OB Break cue, and will not give it up. The only thing close that I have tried is the Jacoby Edge....both butts have the barrel-like taper to them. I have no idea who made the butts for OB, but they do feel similar....If I hadn't have gotten a deal on the OB (thanks Justin - JCIN - ), I would likely have the Jacoby (since the folks at Jacoby are GREAT and always treated me well). Can't go wrong with either, but if price is a factor, call up Jacoby; the Edge is a bit less expensive.

Thanks for all the information!
If I want to get just one shaft do you think I should stick with H-shaft?
How is the hit of the R-shaft, does it bend?

I thought there were three generations, third made by Samsara. Maybe I'm wrong, I'm not sure. But I have one made by Samsara, an X-347 that was marketed by Charlie Bryant after he was clocked at 34.7 mph. Thanks though, great stick!
