what can be done with Bk2 Now that the tips been banned?

I know Magoos in Tulsa said that they are banned there also....my pool room is starting the ban next week...and about every room around the Muskogee area is banning them as well..

I do know I got a really nice BK2 with phenolic tip for 125.00 last night because of the ban. A guy had bought it and now since he cant use it he sold it to me........now what am I gonna do with it..lol

BK2 tip

A friend of mine just did the conversion. As mentionned in one of the previous post, if you choose a waterbuffalo tip or one of the new and great super hard leather tips on the market, when shaving the phenolic tip off, make sure your cue repare guys stops at the carbon pad. Anything else will void your warantee with Predator. Glue the new tip on and off you go, you probably will not even notice a diference in break speed if you were already up there.

The rule banning phenolic tips went into effect on June 1, 2009. It is on all cues, including jump cues. The rule was neccesary as some phenolic tips were harder than the cue ball and were tearing up the cue balls. Also very hard on cloth if the tip makes contact with it.

You guys know what I'm gonna say. Throw them like spears at whoever banned them. Then, do the airplane.

I have a BK2 with an extra shaft with a hard Tiger leather tip and the extra control of the leather is awsome. I use the leather tip 4-1 over the phenolic.

Talisman Extra Hard tips are the hardest leather tips I have encountered. And they are laminated so they hold up well.

I would think they would make a suitable replacement for phenolic.

Samsara jump/break tips are the way to go. Replace your phenolics with these. I was doing this before the ban cause I like them better.

What's so hard in gluing a real leather tip on BK2's ferrule?
Flatten it and install a tip.

there's nothing hard..but u better make sure u keep the carbon fiber disc on it..i found out the hard way...since i had no idea at the time..i had a known cuemaker(and i'm NOT mentioning his name) take the factory tip off and install the Ice Breaker tip..well within 2 days i shattered my ferrule and cracked the shaft 10 inches up it...

APA = 250,000+ members (best league for newbies)
VNEA = 80,000+ members
BCAPL = 50,000+ members (still the best league for players)

Thanks Scott,

I gotta say I am surprised that VNEA is second with that many members. In all of the years I have lived here in AZ I have never heard of it around town. In fact, the only time I ever heard of it was on here. The only ones I have heard of have been APA, BCA and TAP.

The BK2 does not use a tip ferrule combo, so you don't have to take it down to the tenon and replace the ferrule. It does use a carbon fiber pad on top of the ferrule, and you must leave that in place or you will experience a failure. Our shafts also use a carbon fiber pad.

All you have to do is to replace the tip, leaving the carbon fiber pad in place. Consult Predator if you have any questions, but I am sure they will tell you the same thing.

Personally, I don't like the hit of the phenolic, so we use the Samsara Break tip on our Break Cues and Break shafts. Both of these products should be hitting your favorite dealer soon.

When I got my BK2, I had the leather tip installed by Predator. The dealer told me that it I could get it that way. I don't know whether or not he installed it or it came from Predator like that. So they definetly have the option of tips.
On the replacement issue, in regards to the carbon pad. A strong player I know changed his tip and the pad was removed. He used it for awhile, but not too long. When he broke the 1st few inches exploded & Predator wouldn't replace because the pad wasn't there. They told him that the warranty was voided because the pad was removed.

I am keeping my Phenolic as I do not participate in BCAPL, many an idea other need to follow until the BAN is LIFTED.

How long are you going to continue to bash or try to bash something that you admittedly do not participate in? You think people should not participate in the BCAPL because you never have and never will no matter if phenolic is banned or not. I know you are somewhere around 60 years old. Why don't you start acting like it?

You don't have to mention names and I'm far from shy, YOU are not a normal example. Yes I put the tip on and yes the carbon fiber came off when facing was done and Yes, you split the tip, ferrule and shaft on two sides. POWER is not your problem if you can lift 400lbs. Expecting a Predator shaft versus your power to hold up is way to much to ask for. The power you transferred just to be able to split the ice breaker tip in two was amazing by itself, I can't even believe it stayed on.

To put it in perspective, who is the BCAPL?

BCAPL = BCA Pool League - Not related to Billiard Congress of America (BCA) by any means. Mark Griffin bought the league that was originally part of from Billiard Congress of America when they (BCA) didn't want to be in the league business anymore.

However, Billiard Congress of America did not license it's name. It was agreed by both party that the letters "B"-"C"-"L" can be used continually as the name of league. Then abbreviating "Pool League" afterward came BCAPL.

When Mark purchased the league back in middle of 04 there were about 40,000 members but today there are almost 70,000 members strong.
