brian welcome to the forum, just take a picture of the joint pin and post it up in the ask a cuemaker section and you'll have an answer real quick. the predator would be a great cue, there are also many custom makers on here that offer cues in your price range....

happy hunting,

thanks buddy i appreciate the info i will take a pic and forsure do that.

Schon, Mezz or look for a nice plane jane in the For Sale section. There are always some for sale made by "custom" non production cuemakers.

Realistically your game will not improve because of a better cue. One big improvement would be a new tip of good quality such as a layered tip from Tiger. Just getting back into pool after 3 years I would advise not rushing into buying a new cue. Take your time and save a little more enable you to purchase something that may really be the cue you like instead of one that just fits your budget. This will also give you more time to try a lot of cues and be able to research a little more than trying to rely on others opinions.

Good luck and enjoy your cue search. It is a enjoyable experience.

I second this. I would go with a Kamuii brown over a Tiger but it's all preference. I spent quite a bit of time searching for my current set up, but I played with an old Ray Schuler for 14 yrs so I had no rush. If you don't know what type of hit you want in a cue you're not going to be able to find one that plays to your strengths.

Keep an eye out in the For Sale section for a Josey Cue. They hit great and look amazing. You could always have Keith Josey make you a sneaky pete for around around your price range. www.joseycues.com
Welcome to the Forum!

Hello all, been here a while and decided to start posting

As for your question, what about spending 200 bucks on a nice Mcdermott or something in that price range that fits your eye, then spend the other 150 on lessons to learn how to use that wood properly.

I think a handful of cuemakers on this very site could make you a nice, simple custom cue that will hit great, look great, and last forever. I recommend LP Custom Cues or Greg Sirca, but there are a bunch more.

I also think you should wait a little while before jumping into a cue. Give yourself a few weeks to do a little homework and examine what you want/need from your next cue. That way you know you won't have to replace it within a year.

Brian,

Purchasing a new cue is one of the toughest decisions you can face as a pool player on a limited budget. There is a lot of good advice on here to help you. If you do not have the opportunity to try out a cue before you buy it, it can be a crap shoot as to whether you will be satisfied with your purchase or not. Let me give you this: The Predator Sneaky you linked in your OP is probably a fine cue. I use 314-2's myself and like them very much. If you have narrowed the search down and have decided to buy the Predator, then you might want to consider buying it from Ozone Billiards (www.OzoneBilliards.com) as they have a 90-day risk-free, 100% customer satisfaction guarantee for returns on cues whether they have been chalked or not. Their price is exactly the same as Billiard Warehouse's is. This would be perfect if the cue did not meet your expectations. I would call first and talk to a "live" customer representative and get the facts straight before I ordered though, just to be sure.

Good luck on your choice/purchase and shoot well with whatever you use!!!

...Schon...

X2 IMHO, the best production cue ever made. It's a proven weapon and has stood the test of time. I would buy a used one from the wanted/for sale section of the forum to get more bang for my buck. Just make sure it has a nice shaft close to 13 mm so you can get a lot of play out of. It seems like you keep cues for a long time. If you like the hit of the predator shaft, you can always add that later (or now).

I wholeheartedly agree with the OP doing a bit more homework before buying. I've certainly fallen into the trap of buying without "knowing" exactly what I was getting, only to sell it later at less than I paid for it.

The only problem I have with him ordering a custom cue is that if he doesn't like it, the custom cuemaker won't give him a refund for it. At least with the Predator Sneaky, if he doesn't like it, he can get a refund, IF he purchases from Ozone Billiards. This seems like a win/win proposition for him to at least have this option.

I see you list having a Falcon and Orchid as some other cues you have (or is it had?). I think both of those brands play nice. Falcon is not a bad quality cue and from what I remember, Orchid also had a good reputation.

Try playing with those, you may like them again.

Post your location. Someone local may have something for sale. Best to try before you buy!

Brian,

You should be able to get a nice cue for your $350 budget. There are a lot of differences between cues, the way they feel and the way they hit. I agree with most of the posts here that you need to try before you buy.

Go to your local Pool Room and ask some people there can you knock around a few balls with their cues just to get an insight for the way they are weighted and the overall feel of them. People love to show off their cues. You may even find a cue that you really like and it may be for sale.

Best of luck finding a great cue.

I would contact Tommie1351 he has a good selection of GOOD CUE's For Sale in that PRICE RANGE. He is honest!
