...lets say you start playing a set. Now the person you playing with is cool and a regular at the pool hall. Now after you play two sets the person breaks his cue to leave but you want to keep playing. If you were to be playing and after two sets you were down and he just broke his cue and quit without having said a thing... isnt that a pretty nitty thing to do??? Are you even suppose to pay if you get into that kinda action when the guy quits you two sets up and uve only played two sets??

ive never quit winner ever on anyone unless weve played like a massive amount of time and even then i say:

" i get 3 sets left in me"
" ive got about another 2 hours left", or
" we can continue tommorow after set stipulaton".

Whats is the opinion of you guys out there???

I think it is nitty. Some people will say he can quit whenever he wants, which is completely true. It is just nice to give your opponent a heads up if you have to quit. If you guys are cool with each other, maybe play again real soon and he starts up two sets. Not paying is nitty too, so I would advise paying him. He did win and deserves to get paid, even if he is a nit.

it would have been better if he had told u he was going to stop after this set but i dont see anything wrong since he gave u a chance to get even and u missed it. i dont think he has an obligation to keep playing. the whole notion that u must keep playing to let the other guy get even is stupid. if u've given him a chance to get even and he failed then its over...unless it was agreed beforehand that a certain number of sets must be played.

u have to pay because u lost...but also that is pretty "nitty" of him...just remember what he did and u make the decision to give him action again or not in the future...i had a guy accuse me of quittin him winner the other night but there was 5 minutes left until the pool hall closed and he wanted to play another game..and we were playin one pocket!! he went smoooooth off on me threatening me and tried to take my stick cuz he was so pissed off cuz he fealt i was quittin him winner!!...i can go on and on more with this story cuz there is more but just sayin there is always gonna be ppl like this no matter what...

You lost, so you have to pay him. I agree with Danktrees... it doesn't make much sense to me to keep playing someone until they get back to even or up. The whole point of playing for money is to come out with more money than you started with. Nitty or not, if I'm playing someone for money, then I'll quit playing whenever I want to, even if my opponent wants to keep playing. But, whenever I'm about to quit, I always say to whomever I'm playing that "this is my last set," or something along those lines.

i would pay him for the sets he won, and consider it a lesson paid for. i would not gamble with him ever again. quitting winner is a very nitty move in my book, but then again, i'm old school where people just didn't do that .

i call people like you hit and run's. you will only lose one set and you're done. and if you get up one or two sets you bounce before your heart runs out. you prolly go to a casino and play nickel slots 1 nickel at a time to huh? if you know you are only gonna play a couple sets let em know beforehand so they dont waste their time. quitting winner is like making out with your brother.... wrong on so many levels

IMHO, the ultimate objective to gambling is to find a respectfull way to quit winner. "quitting winner is like making out with your brother"???? Does that mean that you never walk out of a match ahead, and that you're always willing to end up on the losing side of a bet? I think you were trying to say that quitting winner on short notice, or pulling up without notice or a chance for the loser to make his money back makes somebody a nit, and I agree.
ALWAYS agree to a predetermined amount of money, or a predetermined number of sets before the match ever starts.

He DID give you a chance to get your money back. He could have quit after one set, but he played a 2nd one. You had 2 chances to win the cash and you blew both of them. Nobody owes you a third chance.

I think complaints about quitting winner are just another form of whining about the fact that you lost. Like complaining about the rolls, the spot, the length of the race, etc. There's always some complaint from the guy who lost. Maybe if he'd stayed you could have blown your whole wad, and you could go home broke. That'd be cool, right?

Do you think a guy is a jerk if he quits winner at the casino after a few hands instead of staying long enough to donate to the casino?

are you serious? yes i will never walk out on somebody that i have stuck. even if i risk losing i will still play and if i end up loser then i choose when i have had enough. i said it exactly the way i wanted it. play til the person who is down is done. the one exception is if someone is being offensive and or gets physical. agree to a determined number of set are you for real? this is how i go about gambling and it works for me. set an amount in my head im comfortable losing. play til you get there, or bust the mofo.

Is it really that ridiculous to agree to a number of sets?

Yes, you should pay. Nit is what losers call the people who take their money.

You lost, pay the man.

And I call people like you whiners. I actually never quit playing someone after one set. I always play atleast a second set (whether I lost the first one or won it). And actually, I'm 18 years old, so playing in a casino is not really an option. But I am smart enough to know that slot machines are basically for chumps. If you want to make some real money at a casino, then you go to a poker table. I really don't see how quitting while I'm ahead caused you to think I'm the type of person that would "play nickel slots 1 nickel at a time." Like I said in my first post in this thread, if I'm about to leave, I always tell whomever I'm playing that this is my last set or something like that. And, exactly how is leaving while you're up "like making out with your brother"? I bet every time you go to a casino, you lose more money than you expected.

Crazy....

I've been playing and hustlin pool since I was 14. I find it funny that people try to claim I "owe" them a chance to win their money back. Gambling on a pool table is usually per game or per set. After that, either one can quit.

The only people that really whine about the other quitting is the "sore loser" who for some reason thinks they maybe can get lucky and do a comeback, or the shark who has been baggin and the other quit right before he was gonna make his move.

Buck up and win in the first place and this is not a problem.

some don't seem to understand why we gamble

Some don't seem to understand why we gamble. If the goal is to come out even, why gamble? Keep a score and do the same thing as passing money back and forth. I will give people a one or two bet warning before quitting or if I have a time I know I have to leave I will tell them before starting play.

I will let them raise the bet some to try to get their money back if I am winner but if I have played for hours to get as far ahead as I am I am not going to risk it all on one game or one set. I won it the hard way, you have to win it back the same way; if not today another day. I can't remember ever raising the bet to try to get my money back when I was losing.

Not paying him makes you worse action than him.

Personally, I think it is up to both players to stipulate what kind of gambling session they are expecting. If no one says anything then I think the either player is free to leave whenever they want to.

I don't like the idea that agreeing to gamble with someone means I have to stay for as long as they want me to, provided I'm winning.
