What is Bucktooth's speed?

Bucktooth is about the nearest we have to a classic, legendary pool hustler.

I know he's a good gambler. I figure he must be a very good player too.

Anyone who's seen him play, how would you rate his speed at one pocket, 9 ball, and straight pool? Does he only play for high stakes?

Well like most people at 66 yrs he has a hard time playing anyone even that can play at all, that is why he will embarass you into a game he can rob you at. But the man can gamble. He knows all the moves in 1p and he was real good when he was younger. There is another thread on this somewhere recently where a lot of people rated him. Check it out. Right now I would rate his game a little better than a shortstop in 1p. I do not think he plays any of the other games anymore. He beat a buddy of mine out of $5000 a couple of years ago. It wasn't that he could out shoot him, he could just out move him. I don't think he will play anyone even very often unless he has the nuts. He might playone anyone however with 2 balls and he makes one.

Heh...he tried to rob my friend Pooky when he played Bucktooth, but ask Bucktooth how he liked that action.

i think pooky realized he got lucky that night, that's why he didn't show up the next night when they were supposed to play again.. :)

he likes to high roll people, people often think its an ego thing but they are new to gambling (Green peas) What it does is gets the other player to think about their $$$$ and not pool, which gives the high roller a advantage in the pool game. Its a great way to manage a game, alot of smart gamblers do it. But most people who have been playing pool for 5 years and can run a few racks think its an ego trip. They are just inexperienced and wrong, its a move. It takes many years to learn moves, the best moves dont look like moves, like this one-everyone just says its an ego thing meanwhile you get a higher bet and an opponent who dosent have his mind on pool, does it get any better???, and the rail birds are clueless.

Someones speed isnt as important as how they move to get the big $$$$$. Sure to win $10dimes in a pro tournment you better play good but for the big $$$$ moves are more important.

Then there is the line from the movie: "I'm a f**king MILLIONAIRE...80 grand means nothing to me." These people are out there. Maybe not many...that because it's hard to become a real millionaire if you're a gambler.

I was living in DC and had just got into playing pool seriously when I saw Pooky play for the first time. He tore up Danny Green and everyone else to win the tourney that day. Now I'm back in California and heard Pooky came out here and tore up Bucktooth at California Billiard Club. There's no way the Tooth could hang with that kinda speed in 9ball. He's got the experience but I don't think he has the eyes or endurance for 9ball anymore. The only game I've seen him playing in the past few years is 1P. Even still, heck of a guy to watch and learn from.

Bucktooth Sighting at Hard Times ....

I just left the Tournament and Bucktooth must have chased Tony C. around the joint for at least 3 hours beggin' for a game, but Tony wasn't having any part of it ... Tooth kept raggin' on him hard the whole time, but Tony kept his cool (and his money) ... I gotta' hand it to you, Bucktooth, you exemplify what pool was like 30, 40, 50 years ago and it brings back a lot of memories ... I hope you can put together a game with those 90 yr. old Players you're looking for ... Ha !!!

Now Bucktooth and Memo in 1P is a matchup I'd like to see. That's like 150 years of experience combined. And I'm not sure who I'd back really. Might have to go with Memo.

Chris,

Fatboy gave the best answer, but I will add to it. Tooth's real speed is with his bankroll. He will use it as a weapon to intimidate his opponents. If they are comfortable betting a thousand, he will ask them to bet five thousand.

How does he play? Let's just say, he plays good enough to win. Whatever speed that is for the game he has made.

Pooky is talented, and he plays (played) good for big money. That is a strength...so Bucktooth could have bet what he wanted (within Pook's bankroll) and that wouldn't fade Pooky. Bucktooth got in a game he couldn't handle, period. It happens to the best. I'm sure Bucktooth thought he had a fish that day.

Joey, I'd have to back you against Bucktooth, although I haven't seen him play since '98. Problem is, we couldn't get the high sand up, nor would he probably play you even...:( When you comin' over to Skeeters?

Let him try that on me, we could save time and play big bank takes little bank.....poor tooth. I let him keep his tooth but the rest would be mine. :p

A little off topic, but I am in Ottawa and the other day I was chatting with the big boys up here. We do not have a single player ranked pro in the area but lots of short stops. Our best gambler is Steve Bourada. He used to do a lot of road trips 15-20 years ago playing snooker. Now up here there is not a lot of action. If you get a "big" money game it's for $100 a set. I just can't get over the action that gets set up on this site! Unreal! I only wish that kind of action was up here! Not that I am in that level of gambling but wow it must be awesome to watch!

Hey Bucktooth, you ever come to Toronto, Montreal, or Ottawa send me a PM! I have got to see this! Or anyone else that plays that kind of cash! The biggest I have played was for $1k. The biggest I have witnessed was in Vegas in 2002 watchin Edwin Montal and some kid from the US play for $5k race to 13 8 ball on the BB.

Anyone with a good youtube link to any of this action please send it to me by PM! Much thanks!

The nicknames poolplayers get just crack me up! Buck tooth. LOL!! I wonder if there is someone named snaggletooth out there? Please enlighten me if there is. LOL!!

If you ever see the guy, you'd figure it out pretty quick how he got his name.

Pool is one big trifecta: knowledge, execution and bank-roll. The Tooth has 2 of the 3 down hard (even if he's near 70 or whatever). His knowledge runs really, really, really, really deep. For everyone inviting him over to hit the jackpot, your chances are better to get run-over by a submarine than making an easy score.
