What is the best thing you did to improve your game in 2011?

hmmm

Spending two full days getting one on one instruction from Stan Shuffett last weekend. I don't even know where to begin with how it helped my game with aiming, kicking, banks, and making a few minor tweaks in my stroke/mechanics that nobody else detected that is now going to save me from years of heartache.

I was hoping at best it would help some, at worst I only lose a few dollars, not to mention the 15 hour round trip in my car. To say it has changed my game for the better and added a renewed vigor to playing and practicing would be an understatement. The BEST money I ever spent in pool period. For the price of a decent SP, I'm one ball better the second I left for home. Now I"m gonna practice it for a few months and see how much I can add to that !!

I have been trying to improve my banking by banking. My banks got a lot better quickly (3 or 4 months), and now im trying to improve my precise cb control off banks. This is very difficult for me. i started missing more banks when thinking cb too much. Usually when you get a feel for a bank you are just kinda in cinch mode. It hard to really get the speed and accuracy all correct on these banks, but its an invaluable skill.... im having moderate success so far in practice..... but am executing some of the most powerful stuff ever for one hole. many many mis executions though.... i guess thats what is needed. I'm really starting to realize why i see good players go into the stack so often after a bank though..... i find it relatively easy to control the line of the cb after many banks, but NOT the speed, especially when banking firmly (rolling a bank in isnt as much of a problem obviously).

one huge thing ive noticed though is as my banking improves my visualization for cb paths around the table has improved too, to me thats invaluable too. Kicking is getting better too.

Using CTE and paying more attention to my dominant eye.

There, you see everyone, Lou is finally coming around. He doesn't really want to be a naysayer and he's really not all bad.

Yes. It's about time you acknowledged that.

i'm going to sound repetitive after the previous posts, but, yesterday i signed up for a 6 week course (one 2 hr lession per week). going to break my game down to the fundmentals. working on the stroke and dominant eye. i always miss the shot to the left of the target, must be the dominant eye. getting videos etc to find out where the problem lies. also get a permanent PSR...been working on that for about 2 months now and it helps when i remember to do it! and work more on drills, ugh.......unbelievable how the az forum helps every day! i guess that's why i am here 2 or 3 times per day, huh? ;)

Best thing I did for my game was to retire it for good & quit trying to ressurect the dead..lol:p

I've accepted that I don't have the time or energy to ever play even up to par as to way I played way back which was ok locally.

Hi R.J.,

Thank you very much for the positive comments! I really enjoyed working with you. Good luck with your game in the months and years ahead.

Without seeing you play, try this, it's simple, either approach (walk up) to the shot as you always do, BUT, approach (walking up to the shot) a little more left or a little more right, one of em could very well correct your problem (sounds like I'd try the left walk up 1st). Me, on extreme cuts to the right I tend to approach a little more left to compensate for what my body does. On my extreme cuts to the left this does not occur.

improved my game

I spent several hours at Georgia billiard academy CHRIS NIKSCH instructor /owner is a real good instructor changed my stroke and stance and it made a world of improvment in my game and aditude THANKS CHRIS

What things that you did to make your game better in 2011? How did they help to make your game better? What areas were the improvements made in your pool game? Breaks, run outs, playing safe, banks, kicks, or other things?
Thanks.

Without seeing, I'm assuming these two ''stroke/stance'' are in order, if not then they must be corrected/then incorporated into ones game, then try what I said.

Hey Lou-

would that be more...sarcasm? ;)

btw-doing any West coast swing or East coast (Lindy) swing along with the waltzes and Tango. A smart move Lou-pleases the wife-and you might get to hold other women in the bargain:grin: without reprisal.

Take care

lol, sarcasm... Moi?!

We never made it to Lindy or Swing, only Cha-Cha, Tango, Waltz, and Jitter Bug. On the plus side, our instructor, Heather, was *very* attractive and, well, you know, pretty, ummm... stacked. Sometimes we'd be arm-in-arm, in position, and she'd be showing me a step and it was very difficult to keep my eyes looking down at her feet. Sometimes we'd have to go over things two or three times :-)

My shot making improved a lot when I stopped reading aiming threads.. Johnnyt

Hey Houmatroy, how are you and I going to play,

If you stop playing before you get to me? Now I do not have to come up there to play you, my friend!
