There's no good way.

Cutting that ball in, be prepared to lose.

I'd likely be looking to 2 rail that ball to same pocket and put cb on opposite end rail....and trying to hit it so if it misses, it misses on the side rail end of that pocket.

That spot is no good at all

It’s a difficult shot any way you try to shot it to pocket it in the left hand corner. Probably the best chance to make it is with a little inside English. There’s a risk of scratching across the side on this shot. Also it the corners of the side pocket aren’t perfect it’s easy to catch the far point of the side pocket causing as miss.

Inside English if there was no choice but scratch possible and as stated already I would avoid it. If me I'd play alot of bottom left and put CB behind head ball and as tight to head rail as possible and leave 8 in a more make-able location

Simple one hole shot. Comes up all the time. Just spin it in. But chances are you’re gonna have to pay off if you miss. Sometimes that side pocket can jump out and screw you.

Obviously cutting it in with some spin and you might scratch as others have said. I doubt for most players you can make that shot one and five. Be best to just two rail it to the bottom rail puting the cue ball on the headrail and let the other guy take a shot at it.

If you are feeling aggressive you can bank it cross corner. Less chance of selling out as with cutting the ball down the rail if you miss.

Shorty Wright, Howdy;

You playin' 1P? If so then what "8intheside" says. If not then Bank it X side.

Center ball. shoot It as if the ball wasn’t on the rail.
Yep.

Aim as usual with the slight overcut needed for throw - there's plenty of give in the cushion nose to allow that.

If you want to use spin for shape or to "help" the shot, shoot it the same way - as if the rail wasn't there.

I think the assumption is they're probably playing 8 ball and they're both on the 8. It's risk and reward. Trying to cut the ball in you are maybe 3 or 5 to 1 you lose the game. A good safety you can become the favorite to win.

It's a trick, get an axe...

I have my opinion on this one, but it doesn't involve potting the ball, so i won't mention it.

i am afraid of the scratch
so i would use alittle draw
my make percent would be very low that way

Well obviously you're my new bestest buddy on the forum so I'll now add my original thoughts.

Attempting to pot this ball in the matter your suggesting is simply a mistake. Sure you could swing at it and hope for miracle, but don't kid yourself that your odds are any better than trying to get rich with 'scratch and win' tickets at the corner store.

If you think you odds of potting the ball in that corner, in some unknown fashion (since you're asking), are better than banking the 8 two rails into rudimentary safe position, then I'd play it as Patrick has already suggested.

Good luck

It seems like Shorty is getting greedy to get so much info for one diagram but here are a few things. First, most people aim in the wrong place. I went from almost certain miss to probably 80% make on these shots on the old ten footers when an old timer showed me a few things. First, overcut or undercut the ball in this instance either works since an undercut ball will rebound off the cushion slightly. The eight ball should angle out from the cushion and head for the middle of the inside rail of the pocket or a very little less. Cut a path even an eighth inch from those side pocket teats and they become no problem. I usually go out a little further depending on a few things. The main thing to remember on this and all rail shots, nothing says you have to hug the rail!

The other thing to remember is that this isn't golf. Improving the lie is illegal in golf and costs people tens of thousands or more sometimes when they accidentally do it without thought. Reckon Johnny Archer has picked up a million pieces of lint yet? Walk over to the side pocket and brush your fingers along the cushion from about an inch from the pocket to inside the pocket. Do this a few times without making a big deal of it using moderate to firm pressure. Moves any clump of fabric caused by folding the corner at the end of the cushion from sticking out into the playing surface to sticking into the pocket. Might subtly shape a cushion that sticks out a little when you do this too. Of course this gives you a chance to take a close look for misaligned cushions. If the second cushion is sticking out a lot and can't be moved then it might be time to abandon the shot.

I generally hit these shots medium firm, a good solid shot but not silly hard to bounce balls out of pockets.

Your shot just came up live (almost) on the 10 ball world championship.

Second rack, shot on the 3 ball. You will have to find the time stamp as its still live now.

Correct, it’s a pay or get paid shot. There’s no hedge here. Just shoot to make it, and accept it as it ends up. Getting a good CB will compromise making the ball, lose then too. So all OB & most likely a good white ball. That’s the best you can ask for here.
