What is your favorite match to watch over and over?

Keith McCready v. Ismael Paez, double-hill for the win, Buddy Hall and Kim Davenport commentating --> HERE

This is when pool players weren't afraid to show emotion, unlike today's emotionless tournament robots who play mum pool.

That's an exciting hill-hill game. The energy in the room and commentary booth reminds me of TAR2 (Alex/Shane), another favorite from an earlier post.

Keith's antics, gyrations, and shout outs are great to watch.

That was great. Grady says something like "Mitch Lawerence needs to get out of there! How is he employed! We need some kind of mercy killing."

Let me preface this by saying Mitch Lawrence does indeed suck. Pool on ESPN in general had always sucked. Chewed up and digested into a used piece of gum shoved into a cheap Sunday afternoon time slot, because everyone is watching football anyways.

The format for sports announcing had always been have one person who seems inept and one person who is proficient enough to be analytical. Although I believe Mitch had to know more about pool than he let on, ESPN needed the lay person to connect with the every man who did not know much about pool. Something like the "host" of a late night infomercial, almost completely useless, however the psychology is brilliant. If you don't know anything about the game he makes you feel ok for it. If you know alot about the game he makes you feel superior for it. The people at ESPN are no dummies. They could have easily had two world championed sitting in that booth having a conversation for the ages, but only the hard core folks actually want to watch that.

Certainly not a sure thing 2-9 sporty angle and in the side to boot. Every ball had a pocket granted, if you watched the match Mika was on tilt much earlier.

I stand by what I said.

Mika was ok tilt! I don't believe it.

It wasn't in the side, it was in the corner, with the 9 right by the 2.

I have no idea what "I stand by what I said" even means, since all I was doing was telling you that Shaw didn't have to run all the balls.

Wasn't the 9 made on the break? And would have been spotted?

It sounded like you were justifying the forfeit.

Mika is one of my least favorite players, so no I wasn't justifying the forfeit.

And no, he didn't make the 9 on the break.

This was a great match (Earl v Efren Color of Money) but it's hard to re watch for me. Not because of the length but because of Earl's shit ass attitude. His poor attitude is what cause him to lose.

FYI, lots of great pool matches available on Youtube are linked on the great pool matches resource page.

Whenever threads like these come out, I add more vids to the list, per people's recommendations. I've also found many of them on my own over the years.

Enjoy,
Dave

... Also worth adding just about any match Oliver Ortmann played during the 2009 World 14.1 Tournament. He had something like 4 consecutive 100 ball runs. 100 and out, 100 and out, 150 and out and a 125 if I remember correctly. ...

Ortmann had runs of 100, 100, 150, and 125 in 4 consecutive matches, but the 125 came in his 4th inning of that match after he had missed his first shot and played safe a couple of times. So he actually ran 350 balls without a miss plus an unknown number (but thought to be small) at the end of the match prior to the first 100. Here's a thread about it: http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=154499

I love Oliver! :)

Efren!!!

my favorite has to be the Accu-Stats double match at the 2006 Derby City 1Pocket
Efren Reyes vs Alex Pagulayan(semi's)
Efren Reyes vs Jason Miller(finals)
probably the best one pocket ever caught on tape
close 2nd is the 2013 US Open 9ball match between Lee Vann Corteza vs Hayato Hijikata, LVC plays a near perfect game

The one I can't seem to locate now. It was Corey Deuel 2001in the US Open 9 Ball finals beating Mika Immomen 11-0. This was his introduction of the soft break on the big stage and Corey was masterful. Such a classic. You could count the veins on Mika's forehead and probably fry an egg on it.

I've repeat watched quite a few matches, on YouTube and Accu-Stats. But my favorite match to watch over and over is TAR #1, Shane vs Corey, 10-ball race to 100, filmed in September 2007.

This was Shane's coming out party. He dominated this match, at one point winning 20 out of 23 games, and went on to win the US Open a month later. The 20 hours of commentary from Billy Incardona and Grady Mathews is so great, that I'll put the match on and just listen to it while I practice.

One of my favorite matches to watch is Buddy Hall vs. Mike LeBron in the 1991 Challenge of Champions. The subtlety, the unknowingness, the total obliviousness to the outside world and what it may think still amazes me when I see Hall hit that 8 ball on the wrong side.

Watching matches on 10 foot tables are the most enjoyable for me. It allows one to see just how great the top pros really are- particularly good matches on the 10 footer were svb vs earl in a tar match and earl vs efren at Steinway when they still had a 10 footer.

On 9 footers, I I like matches from hard times in bellflower because they have such tight tables. Orcullo vs svb was one such match and orcullo playing the ghost there as well
