what "PRO" has the best (most consistent) power-break ?

Nice !

How about Larry Nevel.

randyg

randyg : Firstly, my apologies for not answering sooner in this thread.

Larry Nevel does indeed have a nice power-break. A good scatter, and almost always an open 1- ball. He will be one to watch in the near future.

Nice catch.

Dennis Orcullo has a very good break at 10 ball, before his first match at the U.S. Open 10 ball event all he was doing was practicing his break. Also SVB at the same event was utilizing his excellent 10 ball break as well.
Bustamante of course, but not as controlled.
Roberto Gomez aka "Superman" has a very powerful break, when he was matching up at Q masters during the U.S. open 9 ball he was potting 4 balls on the break in 10 ball quite often.
Larry Nevel smacks the balls hard, but I feel he lacks control.

Back in the day Tony "The Tiger" Ellin had one of the best power breaks that I've ever witnessed. It seemed like he was always playing 6 ball.

Has Shane slipped or is everyone else finally just catching up?

LOL.....really.......Let the world know when SVB catches up to Johnny Archer....Shane is a World Class Player and a Favorite any where he goes. But World Class Players like Johnny Archer, Busty, etc..... Have been winning Tournaments and World Titles for 2-3 decades........And are still favorites any where they go.

OK,Shane has caught up.

The world has caught up as well and may have surpassed the US.It is a whole different ball game today vs. say 10-15 yrs. ago.

I can't believe Jeff De Luna's break hasn't come up in this conversation: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a7ZwcqSSCr8

Okay okay... probably not the most consistent but definitely one of the most powerful I've seen.

But yeah.... not betting against Shane.

jeff does have a powerful break. in fact i remember him breaking with alcano's break cue and broke it which made everyone laugh really hard.

SVB & Bustamante

For anyone that isn't familiar with who everyone in this thread is talking about , here is a link to a recent match at the Hard Times Open in Sacramento California.

The camera angle is behind them when they break so you can't readily see their style; :speechless: however you can see the net result of their breaks.

Funny how both commentators talk about their breaks, yet the dang camera angle totally sucks in order to see them. (kinda like saying Tom Brady has a good throwing arm, and then just showing the reception by the receiver). :thud:

................and players wonder why pool can't grow and evolve............

Not Familiar

svb and ko pin yi has the best 10 ball breaks

I am not familiar with too many Asian PRO's , there are many that have great talent. Pool is truly a world-wide sport/game.

From my limited observations, Ko Pin YI seems to have a style much like SVB. BOTH like to load the kinetic energy in those long cues for a smooth break. He is very consistent. I've noticed that he does leave clusters a bit which he needs to negotiate. Overall, a solid player! I'll have to watch for him now.

Thanks for your post !

No problem! I may be a little biased because I'm Taiwanese, but I really enjoy watching them play. They all have great fundamentals, good cue ball and ridiculous shot making abilities. But I'd still give the edge to some Filipinos who just live eat and breathe pool... it feels a little more like a "job" to the Taiwanese players.

Personally, I find Jeff De Luna is one of my most favorite breakers to "watch"...can't emulate that style...I'd end up needing new felt...a new break cue...and a hip replacement!!!

From the standpoint of a break shot that I would like to emulate, it would be SVB's hands down...he seems to get the most power from the least amount of "effort"...not the least amount of practice mind you...but effort. He seems to lose the least amount of energy throughout the break-stroke...
