What products is pool missing?

I am doing a project and would enjoy hearing what other people that play pool have to say to this question: What are some products that are missing/ need to be changed in the billiard industry? chalk, tips, cues.. ??

I know this will probably upset some people but honestly, for how long pool has been around, it's amazing that we still use old fashioned wood cues with real animal skin tips and grips. Yes the technology on how cues are made have improved but the actual materials have not.

Take a look at golf, they also started out with wood heads, shafts and hand made wood and animal skin balls but now you don't see a single piece of actual wood anywhere on a golf club. Hockey no longer uses wood sticks... etc.

Don't ask me what could replace wood for cues or skins for tips, I have no idea. I'm just a little amazed that we still do.

Hey, after all these years, we're still using rubber for tires on our vehicles.

Some things just don't need to change. Like maple shafts etc. Even tho makers still use maple and other exotic woods, the technology behind the making has kept up with the flow. They have tried everything from carbon fiber, graphite, aluminum, plastic but when it comes down to it, if its not broken, why try and fix it.

Wood is just the best building material you can find for this purpose. Its both functional and beautiful.

Just got an email today about the new Michelin Tires.

These tires are airless and are scheduled to be out on the market very soon.
The bad news for law enforcement is that spike strips will not work on these.
Just think of the impact on existing technology:
A. No more air valves..
B. No more air compressors at gas stations...
C. No more repair kits..
D. No more flats...

Yep, and we'll end up with E. No more money j/k lol

That's very interesting, and actually relates to the project I'm doing. It's about using technology to change an industry for the better. I'm wondering what technology can do for the billiards industry. I realize technology has already impacted pool greatly ie.. predator. I'm curious if someone out there has had a first hand experience where a product failed them in anyway. Then I would ask if technology could fix that problem. I want to keep the idea broad to all aspects of pool.

If everyone thought this way we'd have no computers, no planes, no cars... etc. I'm not stating that there is a better material, just surprised that no better one has appeared when compared how so much else has advanced to different materials.

Thats the thing. There have been materials tried before and everyone keeps going back to wood, leather, etc. Houses continue to be built with wood, cars metal and not fiberglass, tires of rubber. Sure things will be tweaked like ld shafts and layered tips and the designs stay close to the original concept because maybe it just works the best.

The product is called public relations.

Pool needs to have someone like Shane on the cover of Time magazine. What he has done is nothing short of sensational. He is our Michael Jordan or Tiger Woods (the "before" Tiger Woods).

He's a champion, a sports hero. But who knows him or his story outside of the pool world?

More tips and chalk. And aiming systems, definitely.

I think tips made out of a material similar to what is used for skateboard wheels would work as cue tips.
No more chalk. You'd just wipe the dirt off of the tip from time to time.
You couldn't break with it but the english would be awesome.

The one thing that is notably missing in pool is "common sense".

"Common Sense" meet "Marketing". "Marketing" why are you hiding under the pool table?

Missing......

One of them long-handled bug skimmers.

An inflatable floating pillow

Perha,............... Ohhhhhhh, you mean THAT pool doncha ?!?!?:grin:

What is surprising is that you have not noticed that people have been trying what you are asking for DECADES. It has never taken off because every option created has been absolute crap.

Tough request, quickq. You're asking us to do what they pay research and development companies many thousands of dollars to do. Come up with something new. Well, how about this.
Were you ever at the poolroom when the guy playing at the table next to you accidentally sneezed and blew snot all over your new corduroy pants? If you have then you know how hard it is to get out, once it's dried.
I think that a product that would get snot out of corduroy would be the next best thing to come along since Earl shit yellow.

Save the rubber trees. Where is PITA on this. Johnnyt

Audio books, book on gambling, a book on player profiles, a book on pool halls, a book on gambling and money management, and i think that pool is a participation sport not a spectator sport. I want to be able to buy my DVD's my accustat DVD's On my Kindle. that way I have a digital version and I don't have to carry around all these DVD's. Billiards has some of the best products out there,az billiards is definitely 1 of them
