Hi there everyone,

I get so sick from the smoke that I can't play after about 3 or 4 hours. It takes me about 2 days to feel good again.:eek:

I was just wondering if everyone that doesn't smoke experiences just some or all of the symptoms that I do.

Could you share your symptoms with us all...............

Thanks geno..............

We have a smoking ban around my area. if there was smoking in pool halls, I would quit the game.

I believe it is illegal to smoke in any business here in Ontario.

I guess my post didnt answer your question. Sorry.

I think most people have those symptoms if they are not used to being around smoking. I personally can't believe that the laws allow smoking indoors. When I move I am going to get a diamond table in my house and nobody will ever see me in a poolhall again except for a tournament, or at q masters at the us open. What a joke smoking indoors is!!

If people want to harm themself with smoking, the government allows them. As a non smoker, they shouldn't have that right around me. You would think my 'want' to be healthy would trump the smokers addiction of a slow death.

I guess my choice doesn't have the tax revenue though.

It does a number on my contact lenses for one. In one month the smoking ban will take effect and I will be very very happy.

This is of course nothing against smokers. If you smoke then have at it. I actually don't mind so much when the place has a good ventilation system, but the place I go to has none at all and there are usually a dozen or so chain smokers in there when I am there.

I agree 100 percent. Theres a smoking ban here in Ohio which helps a lot but some places still let it go on.

Im glad for the smoking ban and i dont care what anyone says. Cry me a river.

I'm allergic to it and I get brutal hangover-like symptoms the next day. Bad headache, dehydration, etc. Thankfully its illegal to smoke indoors in Canada (in public places).

Smoking Sucks!!!

This is what I always here. If we don't allow smoking we will lose business. I believe all states should make it illegal to smoke in public places. Then we would have to listen to how the government is descriminating against smokers. So I feel if a state allows smoking in public places, the smokers should have to pay for health insurance for all non smokers. Just my thoughts tho.

Not a bad idea, but id pass on having my health insurance paid for. You couldnt pay me 10 million dollars to have lung cancer.

Speaking as an ex-smoker, I can see both sides of the fence.

I never realized how offensive smoking was until I quit and began to smell the smoke from others. Oh, man, the hairs in my nose stand straight up. It actually makes me feel a little sick to my stomach. :help:

My boyfriend has given up a lot of bad habits as he has aged. When people hit the half-century mark, they sometimes do a little bit of soul searching and try to improve what years they have left on this earth. Obviously, some habits won't allow people to live a long life. :sorry:

A great pool player from Maryland, Michael "Geese" Gerace, passed away a few years ago at the age of 54 from cancer. He smoked a couple packs a day of Lucky Strikes, without the filter, for many years. Larry Lisciotti also passed away from cancer, and I do know Larry smoked cigarettes.

Of course, people do get cancer from not smoking, but if you smoke, you increase your chances of getting it.

I have BEGGED my boyfriend to quit smoking. He does smoke outside on the porch today and does not smoke in the house, but I can still smell it when he opens the porch door. I don't even want to go in the porch during the summer months because it stinks now. :barf:

I used to get a headache and swollen red eyes when in a pool room that allowed smoke, and this was when I was still smoking. Imagine that. It still made me sick then, and I continued to smoke. :embarrassed2:

I can remember a few years ago, writing on this very forum, b*tching about having to go outside in the FREEZING COLD in the winter to smoke cigarettes in non-smoking pool rooms. I complained that many smokers will not hang out in establishments where they cannot enjoy their smoking; thus, the reason why some businesses are closing their doors due to the smoking ban.

Well, fast forward to today, and you won't see me in any smoking pool room. Virginia, the tobacco State, will pass a law this month banning cigarette smoke. There is no smoking in Maryland establishments already, and D.C. jumped on board a year or two ago.

Nobody could force me to quit smoking when I was a smoker. Like any addict, I came up with every excuse why I wanted to smoke. I only wish I had quit sooner. :embarrassed2:

Come this February 16, 2010, at 1:30 p.m., it will be 2 years of me not smoking!

i have bad sinuses anyways and after about 3-4 hours of being in a smokey poolroom, i really feel like i can't breath. when i get home, i am always blowing crap out of my nose for about 2 hours...sorry, i know that sounds gross.

I absolutely despise indoor smoking.. A few years ago, the voters of Ohio won the smoking ban for bars, restaurants etc..

Well that is a total joke. I play league pool one night per week and ALL of the bars still allow smoking and there does not seem to be anyone stopping them. They tried it for a month or two but business was so bad, they figured that paying the fines was cheaper. This sucks for players like myself.

I still play once a week, and I know that it's my choice but I love the game so much. Eventually, the smoke will keep me from playing league pool due to the side effects.
I get headaches EVERY time I play league pool, they kick in before I even leave the bar for the night. I rarely sleep well that night and always takes me the next day to recover. Like Nathan, I get a hangover effect and I rarely drink a beer, never to excess.

Glutton for punishment, see what this game drives me to do. I love the game so much I sacrifice the sickness to get out and play. If I ever find a league that is played in a non smoking establishment that is close by, I am in for sure. Second hand smoke SUCKS!

Second hand smoke is a killer, if it don't kill you get lung, and heart disease. IMHO NON SMOKERS HAVE RIGHT ALSO!!!

Here is AZ Smoke are $7.00/PACK. $.35/Coffin Nail. In Canada smokes go for $13.00-$15.00/Pack because the GOVERMENT KNOWS Smoker get sick more, so let the smoker pay for their Health Care up front.

I would love for the pool halls in Florida to be smokeless but they aren't and I've played in them daily for years now so I'm use to the second hand smoke, it doesn't effect me much at least from what I can tell. Who knows what the long term affects will be!

Well we arent alowed to smoke anywhere inside public areas, so must be be smell from those skiping the daily shower!

Geno,
I suffered through 17 years of direct second hand smoke at the hands of my father...and it left me with horrible asthma. Any time I go to a pool hall where smoking is allowed and spend more than an hour there I wheeze for days. I have to go straight home and wash my hair and clothes. Of course my eyes burn as well. Hopefully over the course of the next few years every state with have an indoor smoking ban and enforce it!

Good job! That is so hard for people to do and you are a testament to what can be done when you set your mind to something!

Don't worry...you will be! You may not have felt it yet, but your lungs were affected. They still are every time you breathe it in. If you ever get a chance to see the "Bodies" exhibit (it was here in Tampa for awhile) I would recommend it. It's a real eye opener!

rough on me

When I hit the bars and pool halls nightly I would have said that second hand smoke didn't bother me. I always had sinus issues and felt a little rough but attributed that to the hours I was keeping. Now away from constant secondhand smoke I have almost forgotten what a stuffy nose feels like!

Secondhand smoke is brutal on my eyes, sinuses, bronchial tubes, and lungs. I attributed my constant sinus issues to working outside in all weather and never knew how healthy I was until I got away from my nightly dosage of secondhand smoke.

Nothing I can do keeps me from smelling smoke for several days after being in heavy smoke even with smoke eaters and I always have sinus and bronchial irritation for a few days. This keeps me from many tournaments I would attend because I have to say it isn't really worth it. I pick my hours to play pool carefully and even then sometimes have issues with secondhand smoke. Having to shower and wash clothes the instant I come through the door is an annoyance also. I don't even like getting in my truck to come home moving the stench to it to smell for days sometimes.
