What shoes do you wear?

I am not sure if I have seen this topic posted before but If I am beating a dead horse with a stick I apologize...

As pool player we spend hours on our feet. After a prolong period of time, all that standing, all that pacing, and all that circling we do around pool tables takes a toll on our knees and feet.

Personally I have tried everything from Rockport shoes to slippers, to New Balance shoes to Dr. Scholl's inserts.

What shoes do you wear?

in 15 years of playing i found its personal choice on shoes its all in your comfort. i never wear new shoes only truly broken in sneakers or dress shoes whatever your preference new shoes tend to cause pain at lease for me after hours upon hours of play.

I have found Red Wings to be the best for me.

Problem is using shoes for something they were not meant for. Athletic shoes are made for movement such as running, walking, jumping and etc and not for standing.

I was dealing cards in a casino and many dealers wore Dansko

http://www.zappos.com/dansko

They don't look comfortable but they are. My wife has about 5 different pair and swears by them.

Red Wing Stores also carry them. There are a few male styles and many doctors, waiters and also wear them.

What you have to do is go for comfort. I have found that not all styles are made for me even in my favorite brand. If the shoe does not feel good in the store it will never feel good. The worse thing to do is buy a shoe that doesn't feel or fit good thinking that if will after you break it in. Try on different styles until you find one that has the right fit and don't buy for looks, fad, or style.

Rocksports for tennis type shoes or SAS for walking/comfort. Yes it was brought up not long ago.

depends on the surface

For carpet I like slidey shoes like similar to dancing shoes. One of the places I play I like to wear my work boots, they have painted concrete there.Walking shoes are most comfortable IMO.Running shoes are no good for me on carpet.

I don't think this topic has been covered much here but shoes are very important.

Also I lean more and more towards dress socks, then athletic socks, even the short ones tend to get to hot when playing pool all day.

Hi there,

I have found that the new balance shoes seem to be the best. Some styles that they don't usually have in stock most places are so comfortable that they are like walking on pillows.

I found an insert at walmart that seems to be the best for me and it is called Pro Foot. It's gray with the heel and arch on the bottom dark blue. This seems to be the answer for me. But I know that all feet are not created equal. Some arches are higher or lower than others but this arch support seems to kind of form a little to your foot.

They're only about 7 bucks to try. Try'em you might like'em.

If you play pool for a long period of time have an extra pair of the same shoes with the same support setup and you will be surprised at how much that will help as far as a pick-me-up for that little energy boost. After 3 or 4 hours you can switch back to the others and so forth.

great tip to someone that plays for a long time. I live it and do it. When I don't I really miss that extra pair of shoes.........

I use a western hiker made by Roper called Horse Shoes.
Comes with an extra add on insole and arch support.
I get tired of playing pool before my feet get tired.

I like Vans that the skateboarders use. They have flat souls and I get a really good feel of how my weight and balance is distributed.

I like the most cushioned ride possible. I've been on a quest to find it and have had success. I had to harass dozens of shoe store associates an sales people to find the answer. Most don't know or don't want to be bothered until this one associate, this young kid who was into shoes the same way people here are into cues. He's the equivalent of someone who has tried every single tip on the market. All my assumptions about the softest ride sneaker were wrong.

He showed me three kinds. The Nike Air Vomero 4, the Nike Air Max (new one where the whole sole is air, not the old style - those are hard) and another brand I can't remember that was inexpensive, but very, very good too. They are all great. The Air Max is a little too spastic visually for me so I got the Vomero's. They are super cushioned and that is with the crappy Nike insole. But even with that they feel like they have Dr Scholl's gel insoles. I took those out and added the Dr S. and how they are freaking ridiculous. I am spoiled.

Can stand in them well over 12 hours without my feet hurting.

I've worn Nike Air for years as well as other brands, and nothing compares. The specific model and types make a huge difference.

It helps to talk to someone who knows the differences between every single type. Not someone that doesn't care or just BS's you.

As important as shoes is socks. I wear some socks designed for mailmen, they are padded in the forefoot and heel. They add an extra level of cushioning.

SAS (San Antonio Shoe Company)
if those aren't handy. New Balance Cross Traininers
last resort, Sketchers Slipons

Goofing off, Cowboy boots.

and another brand I can't remember that was inexpensive, but very, very good too.

If you happen to remember could you please post, I need to get another pair of shoes but have coughing up the dough they want for some of the shoes out there :)

Z-Coil shoes hands down. I wear them for work. The springs look silly as hell, thats why I buy the ones with the foam heel cover. They are the most comfortable things I have ever tried on. Every step is like walking on a trampoline. Hours and hours on your feet on hard flooring with no fatigue.

I wear a pair of Nike cross-trainers. Nothing fancy, but after five hours of One Pocket my dogs are barking. Does anyone have any suggestions? I tried some slip in arch supports with only limited success.

The one and only......

Recently (the past 12 months) I have been playing with Chuck Taylor Low Top All-Stars with no socks. My feet dont sweat so there is no smell, I like them because they are flat on the bottom and soft like slippers, I have played in casmire slippers a few times and liked that too.

For many years I played barefoot everywhere I went, I love to play barefoot, I like how the ground feels on my feet-I rarely wear shoes unless I have too. My feet as a result are very strong, I can walk on gravel drive ways, anything with no pain-except heat.

I cant play in bouncy running shoes, I have tried and tried too and I just dont play as good. Its impossible for me to play in mens dress shoes, Sometimes back in the 80's I would dress sharp to go to the pool room, if I wore dress shoes I didnt take a cue-I would go to bet on matches.

The reason I explained alot about my feet is I think its important VERY important part of pool, my awarness of my feet is more than most people I think, and where they are positioned is very important to your stance and some of the most basic fundementals to playing good pool, your hands and feet are the only things holding you up, your feet bear your weight and how you line up is critical.

One thing I have noticed about naturally gifted players over the years is they all seem to line up good naturally(with out instruction) and that starts with your feet. And proper foot wear is critical. I'm just weird with the barefoot thing-my Dr says its a sign of mild autism. So I'm part retard-I like it!!!

I have peripihal neuropathy (not diabetic) and my feet are very painful. I've been wearing New Balance but intend to look into shoes made for people with diabetes.

Fatboy,

Not to be negative, but I work with children with autism. Autism is not retardation.
