What thickness of shaft do you use?

People use everything across the board. I learned on a toothpick shaft at 11mm to help learn a straight stroke, then used 13mm for about 6 months, never really liked it, now I've settled in the area of 12-12.5mm shafts

OB1 standard 12.75. I've thought about trying a narrower shaft (OB2 at 11.75) but figure my stroke isn't good enough to stand up to it.

Well, because I've played on house cues since I got serious I've shot with all different kinds of shafts.

Most were a standard 13mm but I didn't like how it slid between my fingers, then I found a turned down 12.25mm shaft and that became my standard size, have also shot with an 11mm but I didn't like that as much either.

12.25 - 12.5 is best for me ;)

Pretty darn close to 13.0 mm. I have used 12.75-13.00 comfortably depending on taper.

Old Josswest shafts often came 13.25mm + . But JW shafts more than any cue I have seen has had more "widdling" done than any other shaft maker.

Just for the record, my friend Dicky Todd in Paducah uses a 14mm shaft.:eek: Plays pretty sporty, and can draw the cue ball the length of the table easily.

I use a 12.25 Madden and a 12.75 OB1. I prefer 12.25, but I love the OB shafts. Wish they made an OB1.5...

This is an area I haven't experimented much with yet. Most of my cues have been around 13mm. I have a couple shafts that are a touch over 13mm and those feel too big, I have some that are just under and I really like them. I do have an OB Classic right now that is 12.75mm and that feels okay, but I really can't imagine going much thinner...however I haven't tried it.

I'm considering taking one of my 13mm+ shafts somewhere local and having it taken down to 12.5mm to see how I like it.

I use the 11.75 OB classic pro or whatever they're calling it now. I chose it over the larger diameter OB because 1. it feels better in my fingers, easier to stroke, and 2. it is probably a bit lower deflection.

I prefer a thinner shaft, but would like to know what the general thoughts are on this.

There are no general thoughts about this outside of the shaft makers, it's all what you like.

Most regular shafts are 13mm, most LD shafts are either 12.75 mm or 11.75 mm.

I like a shaft in between those, between 12 and 12.5 mm.

11mm ferrule on a stiff ash shaft with a conical taper, its the nuts. But then again, if you're used to playing with a 13mm flexi maple shaft, you'll think its dog s**t :)

I have two shafts for my Schon, at 12 and 12.5 respectively. My new Lomax is coming with a 12.

McDermott i3 11.75mm. I`m still adjusting from a 12.5mm shaft.
I`m using a closed bridge and i think a 11.75mm shaft is pushing the limits of how small a loop i can make with my fingers.
