What two players would you most like to see play a challenge match?

hi

Sylver Ochoa said this past weekend in the TAR booth that a few years ago he went to Mobile Alabama and pretty much emptied everyone including a 1 pocket session with John Schmidt. When I told John about this he said it was a lie and said he gave Sylver 10-8 and Sylver quit after one set. So I think I would like to see John Schmidt vs Sylver Ochoa :-).........

sylvers playing much better now and i would not give him 10-8 again for sure.
but for him to say he beat me even when actually he got 10-8 is rather pathetic.i will play him 1hole even and if he beats me 5 years later i wont get on live stream and say i beat him i promise.

#1 Danny Harriman vs John Schmidt

After John made the comment about a "Goat" I'm sure this would be a war and yes I would pay to see it.

#2 Earl Strickland vs SVB

This would be on a oversized 8 foot (46 x 92). There would be enough clusters to keep it interesting.

Schmidt you should play Jesse Bowman some one pocket. You guys could play a race to 21 in a little under 2 hours haha!

Earl vs Efren 9 ball 10 second shot clock. All misses are ball in hand fouls.

Let's see some real magic.

SVB vs Darren Appleton, or Jesse Bowman vs Toastie, or Jesse Bowman vs Earl...too many matchups out there that would be fun to watch! Oh what the hell, Jesse vs SVB. 8-ball is a great game and any of these guys would make for good entertainment!! I forgot about Dennis Hatch. Dennis against anyone would be fun too.

Wu vs Pagulayan.

Honestly people say the Philipinos are the best but Orcullo was their top pick and he got smoked twice by Yang IN the Philipines.

Supposedly Pagulayan beat Orcullo for big cash recently, and we all know he beat SVB. So it seems atm Pags is the man to beat for the Philipines.

Wu for all intensive purposes seems to be the man for Taiwan/Singapore. He has had more success on the international stage then Yang ever since he hit the scene, with 2 world titles and a second in the world 10-ball.

So I can think of few better to play a long session against each other.

I do think Mika might be a guy to put in the box, but for whatever reason he seems to avoid these matches or does not get asked to do them.

One thing is for certain, this sport NEEDS to have a "King of the Table" type of ongoing challenge match. Pick two of the top players in the world, have them do battle in a long session and one ends up as the champ, and now that person is the "King of the Table" and each 4 months or so another challenger is chosen to face them based on tournament or gambling performances.

Yang SHOULD have been the King of the Table after dethroning Orcullo as the most dangerous cash player on the planet, and we should have seen SVB, Pags, Mika, and others trying to dethrone him and take the spot for himself. Whoever was able to hold off the contenders and keep the top spot in a format such as this would IMO be THE best player on the planet.

that would be nice.
but the great players dont like to play each other for the most part.
alex is one that will play and bet his own money.

I am thinking if a organization like TAR promoted something like this they could set it up so that a portion of the PPV goes towards the prize purse and both players who take part in the match get a cut of DVD sales, perhaps 10% to the winner and 5% to the loser.

This way if a player was to be the "King of the Table" for 2 or 3 years straight winning 6 or more matches in a row they would have a healthy income from DVD sales of their victories to pad their income, and that could amount to a significant amount depending on where this sport and TAR are in 5 years time.

The above would make the chance of becomming the "King of the Table" quite a lucrative and envious position and I would think alot of the top players like Orcullo, SVB, Wu, and others would like to have that seat at the top.

If this particular series of challenge matches became a fairly regular thing much like the Mosconi challenge matches for his world title that he tended to win I think the PPV prospects could be quite huge. This would not only be a random challenge match, but a continuation of a series of matches, people who watched the last match would now be interested in watching the next one to see if the champ can remain the champ or be dethroned.

The difference between watching a match where you have an ongoing "King of the Table" or a random challenge match is the same as watching some random MMA fight between two contenders, or watching the #1 contender taking on the champ for his belt. The latter is alot more interesting and tends to get a heck of alot more attention and PPV sales.

Willie Mosconi vs Efren Reyes

It would be a Tyson-Ali matchup, one that we will never know the winner of.

My money would be on Mosconi. Earl was drilling Efren for the first two days of their Color of Money match. Efren was shooting well but he simply did not have the firepower to go with a dead stroking Earl like he was those first two days. Only in the third day when Earl slipped and stepped down his game was the consistently good game Efren was playing able to make up the ground and squeek out a win.

IMO Mosconi had every bit as much firepower as Earl from video I have seen of him in his 50's or so when he was still of an age that the ghost of his true game could still be seen. He would overpower Efren like Earl did but where Earl and Mosconi differ is that when Mosconi had a opponent down he had the killer instinct and winners heart to finish strong.

I don't know how Mark got from Sylver that he beat you playing even. I remember explicitly Mark asking Sylver about playing you in the chat. Sylver said he got 11-7 from you. Never did he say he beat you playing even.

Yeah this was my first peek at this thread and only on this last page and I happened to be listening when Sylver was talking about this on the stream and he did say he was getting weight fromJohn, right around that 11-7 or 11-8 spot.

Now I'll go back and see what I missed, maybe I should do that first???
