What was your first cue? How much did you pay? How long did you own it? Any good stories about it?

first cue

Mcdermott d-14. Played with it for about 10 years. My father bought it for me when I started playing alot in 1984. I still played with it in 1996 when I retired it and burried it with my father. R.I.P..

Rocket, $20 in 1965, midwest cue, brass joint pin in butt, not built like the low end Dufferins, no points with a wrap. Then along came Gordon Hart, super joint, ostrich skin, fancy points, the top end Rambow was $80..special order one shaft.

I first started playing with a Huebler. I cant remember how much I paid for it. It was a pretty cue...i sure do wish I had that cue back. I won a ton of money with that cue at our small town pool room playing ring games. I was 15 or 16. A poolroom/hangout opened up and some friends and I began to frequent it. We had nothing better to do. A few of us really took to the game and developed quickly. We busted that place a dollar or two at a time. Thinking about that cue brought back some good memories. Nice post ratcues.

It looks exactly like the ES-4 elite series from hublers website

My first cue was a 5 piece that came in a small square case. Man that cue sucked. I probably saved a lot of money though because it took so long to screw it together. I'm sure I would've lost an extra game or two with a regular cue.

Soooo long ago!

My first cue was an old Rambo Willie Mosconi found for me. Like a dummy I sold it to buy a used late 60's Palmer, that I liked the look of better.:mad: Not sure of the model. Sold that to buy a used Bushka with a Burton Spain made blank. Tried to have a Bushka made, but he died before he could start it! Had a Palmer made custom from their custom shop in Elizabeth, NJ. That got stolen! Played with various cues until I had my Schick made, which I still use to this day!

Wish I still had that Rambo, as a sentimental wall hanger, if for nothing else. Willie kicked my ass many times while I sat in a chair holding that cue, watching him run rack after rack after rack......:D

My "first" cue was a cheap Viking that I stole from my old roomate. The first cue that I bought when I actually wanted to get good at this crazy game was an Adam DX-1. I had it for a few months. I really want to get it back just to have it, but the guy that has it now refuses to sell it to me because he knows what it means to me. As far as I know it's just sitting in his garage collecting dust!

(production) Balabushka GB-1

Still have it, I advanced a lot with that cue and learned a lot. I keep it hung up on the wall as a constant reminder of that.

my very first cue was a sneaky pete looked like a dufferin but it wasnt, it lasted about half and hour i walked to my aunts pool hall started screwin it together and it wouldnt go all the way together it got stuck about 3/4 of the way, tried to undo it but it wouldnt budge so i brought it back for a refund, went to my aunts pool hall again and she made me an offer, at closing every night i vacuumed and cleaned the tables for about a month and in exchange she gave me a cue and case, i dont know who made the cue it was unmarked and she doesnt remember as this was about 11-12 years ago, the case is a brunswick soft case. the cue served me well until last october when i bought a viking, and the case was retired just last month.

Dufferin Shadow probably would not part with it though as it has sentimental value to me, plus it did won me my first tournament.

Mine was a Steve Mizerak, cost $35 dollars or so in 1994. Bar none, I think it was the best beginner cue, dollar for dollar. The Mizerak's were well constructed, kind of a thick taper. I won quite a few bar tourneys with it.

The funny thing about that is, I upgraded to a "Maximum" cue (Meucci employee offshoot brand. Basically, a Meucci taper and hit, but with an actual wrap.), which got confiscated by the Military Police after I got caught gambling in the NCO club. While waiting to get it back, I bought a Mizerak again... And got made fun of! I still ending up beating people with it, so it didn't really matter.

My first decent cue was a Meucci. Very plain and no engraving on the buttcap. They were too damn whippy back then for me too! LOL! It was $120. I probably had it 6 months before I made a trade or went busted and sold it.

First cue...

My first cue was a Brunswick Medalist - wood version from 1965. Plain maple with a green nylon wrap. Couldn't have cost much, but I certainly can't remmber. Sold it in 1967 to buy a Finck cue. In 1993, after an all-night pool session with some friends, I lamented about my first cue and "....I wonder where it is now?..." Unbeknownst to me, I had sold it to this guy in 1967 and he still had it. He gave it back to me (in rather sad shape). I promptly sent it off to be restored (strictly sentimental reasons) to a cuemaker who had just beautifully restored a friend's Gus. Kept in contact with him during the process and about two weeks in, I get a "This number is no longer in service..." It was like this guy had dropped off the face of the earth. I wrote the cue off. Four years later (1997) a friend leaves a message on my answering machine, after the SBE of that year, and tells me he's found the cuemaker, spoken with him and he still has my cue. I call him and sure enough - he apologizes up and down and sends it back N/C with a new SP also in the mailing tube, by way of apology. Still have it - 41 years and counting (just not continuous).

Adios,

Pizza Bob

The solid white cuetec Earl Strickland series back in 1993-94ish... Had it about a year, absolutely no way I could tell you whatever happened to it.... Paid around $100.

I think it was an Imperial. Then I made the jump to a Lucasi or two before. First custom cue though was a Pete Omen.

First actual cue bought from a friend: $19.99 Spalding from Big 5 Sporting Goods
First personal cue: $170 Blue stained McDermott.

I bought the McDermott because a friend of mine had a purple one and I liked the way it hit. I used that for a few year before picking up a Schon Ltd.

My 1st cue was an McDermott D-1 with a blue stain.

I still have it. Broken ferrule and a hack repair job  (you know the kind... the guy sticks it in the pencil sharpener to make a new tenon). Ya OK what did I know then...

I still think of having a new shaft for it made with the existing ring work...

one of these days:cool:
