What would it take to solve the 9ball golden break?

Invent some new equipment. Engineering exercises are great for the brain.

Are you interested in learning the fundamentals of engineering and design principles?

Top pros might spot a golden break template. But do they know which breaks produce the easiest combo on the 9 after a break.

Solving these problems require years of study and experience. I can mentor you along the way.
 
The problem with 9-ball is that TOO MUCH is dependent on the break.
Making the rack "more golden" increases the dependency on the break.

The game is more entertaining when it is LESS dependent on the break, not more.
 

When it happens in competition. How would you know if someone was getting special racks?
 
Put the one ball at the back of the rack, and you have to bank the cue ball off of at least two rails, prior to hitting the one.

This caused a huge uproar a couple of different times in the chess world. The first was when Bobby Fischer announced that the game of chess was no longer challenging enough because all of the possible opening lines were memorized by the top players in the world, so they basically were just playing a game of best memory , until the end of the middle game and any real progress in the game had been made at least 100 years earlier.
This may have been an oversimplfication , but it also had a lot of truth in it. He tried to introduce a game called Fischer Random , in which the back rank pieces could be placed anywhere along the 1st or 8th row . Both sides identical. Most of the authorities in the game, said, Nay Nay.
Chess.com has what they call chess 960 , which is Fischer Random, without giving him credit for inventing it.

It’s the ‘x,y,z and millennials’ posting nonsense. Conversations you never hear among players in pool rooms. My least favorite is ‘How are you doing in league?’. Who gives a rat-ass!

Last idea for the night:
A template used near the pockets. Creating variations of pool help playing odds. A template near the pocket with dimpled holes, it regulates minimum speed into pockets.

The template pocket shield demands a minimum speed to avoid the dimple.
 
Make the 9 ball the final ball, no if's, and's, Combo's or but's. MUST be called even if obvious.

I'm talking about you basically laughing at pool players having fun. For those SL 2s & 3s, it is like a right of passage which lets them feel they can contribute like their higher level teammates. Also, each 9 on the snap gives a player a ticket in a drawing for a trip to Vegas.

Many of us are showing our players how to use templates. Fewer bad racks.

And, gotta ask if you have told Emily at Matchroom that she should show disdain for golden breaks, rather than having the arena lighting go gold when 9 is made on snap.

Go try and get Predator and CSI to spot those 9s.

So stop laughing at the happy players who are the life blood of this industry and sport.

In other words, you didn’t read a thing I wrote. Your narrative is exactly opposite. Why would you make up something like that? It makes no sense.

I haven’t played APA since 2018, yet I paid my annual membership to continue my support for them up until this year. I started in APA in 1988. I go watch my local APA friends every Wednesday, not playing, but just to support them. I practice every week with a buddy that plays APA 9-ball. We only play APA 9-ball as a practice game. He’s an SL-4. He won his divisional MVP. He went to the MVP tournament. He did admirably at 2-2. I was there to support him and the other players. Yet I’m not a current APA player.

Read my post after taking a breath. We were talking about golden breaks, and I originally wrote that most players today don’t want to see 9snap count. I then wrote “professional” as I explained to Icon because I remember that the APA literally encourage it and give patches as a reward. And it makes the players happy and excited, which is also what I said. They collect those patches. They show off those patches. Even though many of us know that the 9snap is due to a bad rack, that doesn’t stop them from enjoying it.

Do I explain the rack to APA players? Of course, but it doesn’t matter. You actually agree with me

Why do I need to explain this to you? you were on some hair trigger and read my post wrong and are doubling down. Everyone sees that when a pro or any upper level player makes the 9snap, they apologize. Emily knows this.

The events where its not the top pros and audience turnout is expected to be low, golden breaks are good for play. The quick win in 9 ball, is a strong distinction from all other pool games.

The comment about the patches was well timed. It was a nice promo for APA.

I am pushing for template rack variations. I thought there might be at least one other person considering using a template modification as a cheat or a demonstration of science.

At my pool club I am trying to find devices or ways to make the initial introduction to pool be a lot easier than it should be.

The initial feeling I am trying to create is: It was so easy to pocket the 9 ball on the break. To a complete beginner that is a more attainable goal than learning shots that may or may not win a game in one shot.

This discussion would culminate in is there a way to 100% avoid the 9 on the break. Does 9 on the spot work?

You must be a daisy at your local pool club.

The recent Matchroom events have the 9 on the spot. It still can get kicked in on a cut break. No way to “avoid” it other than not allowing it as a win.

As others have said or suggested, creating a template to encourage the 9-ball to go towards a pocket on the break is backward thinking, regardless of how noble it might seem. Maybe it would work as a training tool for what not to do.
