No Fred I believe he was 3 ahead and misplayed an easy shape shot to get on the money ball. The cue ball was going towards the 9 for a routine shape shot but he under hit it. He didnt take time. Check the Alex/Shane match. Alex takes so much time on an easy shot to get perfect shape on the 9. Cubc just rushed it feeling that awful feeling that " I might win but not if I dog it" feeling. So threw his stick at it and was left with a bank which he took all but 2 seconds to shoot. Learn from the pro's. Alex never took a shot lightly. Every shot he looked at closely and knew where he wanted to go. Thats how Archer beat Mika twice to win.
Had this man taken the time to get his pattern right he would have won game 4 and wouldve been the high favorite to win. But it was his MENTAL error that opened the door for OMG to comeback.
By the way those breaks werent lucky. I seen her practice her breaks everyday. Its not an inate ability. The lady worked at it. She knew she needed every aspect of the game to give her a chance to win and that included comfort in breaking.
I really hope Cubc comes away to learn a lesson from this. We all been in his shoes. Getting into something we are not ready for. Overestimating our physical and mental abilities. I hope he now understands that physical ability is one thing but a sports pro tries never underestimates the mental side of a challenge.

Okay, 3 up vs. 4 up. Same idea. He wasn't outmatched as much as people are making it sound. Had he gone to 4 up, he would have been in a dominant position. He had a shot to close it out, but he didn't smell the finish line. When M. was up that high, she clearly smelled the finish line.

He didnt take time.
He might not ever take his time, and therefore taking his time may have been worse not better. Hilla kept saying that his hands were shaking. Tough to take your time when your hands are shaking.

Check the Alex/Shane match. .
There was an Alex/Shane match?

Fred

Nah I disagree with you Fred. When youre rushing you take time. A time out even. Like Grady often says you take a bathroom break and look in the mirror and remind yourself who you are. You got to take a break when you start shaking.
THank god there was an Alex match. Its paying for my next Vegas trip to the WSOP

If I heard Melinda right at the interview at the end of the match...then this has a bitter sweet ending. She said she was closing her blog up now because everyone knew who she was. Johnnyt

When I was there, she broke in her $ ball 4 times. I didn't get there until an hour and a half into the match. Several people told me that she broke in her $ ball 2 times before I even got there. A few people told me she broke it in a total of 6 times, which is believable considering how big her break is.

Does anyone remember a player from Southern California named Jenny Lee who was or is with Richard G aka one pocket Rich? She also had a huge break and was a little smaller than Mel.

They both looked like league players to me. Im not saying that's bad just that they both shot like c players. Yeah they were playing on live feed an their own money, but they knew that going in. If you get nervous playing for that much money or on a live internet stream then don't agree to do it in the first place. I hate it when somebodey loses and people try to make excuses for them. I watched some of it because I had a few bets down and TAR did a good job as usual. The chat was entertaining.

how many games did they play?

Anybody count how many games they played? Although six money balls on the break sounds huge it was in an eight ahead race and both players had no end of opportunities to win the set. I seem to remember a couple of short racks on Cubc's side too negating a couple of those wins on the snap by Melinda. In my opinion some seem to be overvaluing the wins on the break. No question that they helped but some were ultimately meaningless since the score was 0-0 later in the set.

Id say towards the end, OMG played to her potential, and cubc played to his potential in a few games. I think he had 3 break and runs?

Just left the money ball.

about the rack: cubc could've got up and checked the rack. there was nothing in the rules against checking your opponent's rack.

about speed: tough conditions and a lot of pressure. you guy's need to cut these people a break. there's always a lot of woofin' on these boards and here's one that finally went off and went off for big money while being broadcasts.

If you can't runout when your supose to you shouldn't be giving the wild 7...period...to anyone. Johnnyt

I met Cubc in Atalnta a while back during a Viking tourney and got to see him play. He does play much better than what was seen on TAR. For whatever reason (s), he didnt perform up to his ability. We have all had days like that.

They both took breaks.

Okay, here is my 2 cents...

It is not fare to rate these two players' true game from what we had seen from the feed, why? Not to defend or take anything away from these players but...

1. Diamond Tables can get into anyone's head and tear down their confidence if you're not hitting perfect - even Pros crumble under the pressure after hanging few key shots. Those who did watch the live feed, cubc did hang, along with misses 9 ball, 6 ball and even 7 ball ( not positive on the 7 )??? At the end, you could see and feel that cubc had lost all the conficence in his game. Mainly, I feel due to the fact he wasn't ready for the "Diamondator".

2. Have you ever played in a room full of crowd and you knew that no one wanted you to win? You know what that feels like? I do...(not that I don't have friends or disliked by general population, but I don't play lot leagues or have traveling cliques. So I've had many matches where I was the "outsider") It's easy for you to say that you should feed off the hate and you should play harder, but it's easier said than done.

3. OMGWTF, didn't play to her fullest potential either... She never ran more than 3 balls... I'm not knocking her game but it's becuae she NEVER HAD TO to win:) How sweet is that for 3 Gs? Cubc got so rattled (tough equipment, nerves that never settled or just distracted by how HOT OMGWTF looked? who knows?) he kept screwing up toward the $$$ balls instead of closing up. Given those reasons, we didn't see to see OMGWTF's true game either. She could be a A player? We'll never know...

Lets hope that we get to see more of these two players battle out in the future.

Oh, we will see more of OMGWTF for sure, cause if I remember correctly, she said she's slowing down- not closing - her blog because she wants to compete (more often) in pool . It had nothing to do with her identity being outed. She has no problem picking on poeple to their face:)

I think that's like 3 or 4 cents... put it on my charge...

I don't understand how we can have 100 threads worth of people saying "I played terrible yesterday, couldn't make three balls", and then have another thread that condemns cubc's game based on one live match.

I doubt I would have done much better given the pressure.

I don't think it was because everyone knew who she was, I think it was because she wanted to play more pool.

The irony is, because of the angle of the TAR camera and the lighting, she could have kept up the anonymity thing just fine. There was absolutely no need to break cover because of this match. I would never have been able to 100% identify either player in person because of watching this match.

++ for both of them showing up and giving it a go. Personally, I was hoping it would have gone for another 2 or 3 hours. I was also hoping to see him take a little more time with things. It always seemed as though he was rushing his shot....perhaps that's just how he plays though. Definitely a learning experience for both...

I got $50 that says they never play for this amount of cheddar again.

She never had to win? Come on Sunny, that's ridiculous. She blew a lot of easy outs as well. CUBC should have dominated her from the beginning and he dogged it. In 8 ahead she definitely HAD to win each game. There is no way she was stringing him along.

She could be an A-player? Yeah, maybe, but it's doubtful.

Maybe we really saw both player's "true" games. Maybe for the cheese neither or them can really bring it but OMGWTF has better nerves and can come with big shots sometimes.

A lot of us play great with no pressure. I totally disagree with you though that she didn't play her best game because he didn't. From what I saw both of them dogged a lot of balls and it was more handing things back and forth. OMGWTF came with several good shots at the end but the final two shots of the match were exactly the tenor of the whole match. CUBC had an easy out and he gets a little out of line on the 7 and takes no time to line it up and fires away leaving it hanging to blow 3gs.

You make it sound as if she was deliberately playing on the lemon. That's not what I saw. I saw a player who was playing her heart out, dogging easy outs and at the same time making some really nice ones to. I saw an "underdog" with determination take off someone who was clearly uncomfortable and who dogged more easy outs.

Of course my observation comes only from watching these two play for the first time during that match. So take that for what it is worth - absolutely nothing. If I am wrong then it was definitely one of the greatest hustling performances I have ever seen. Either way she got the cash.

It's only believable if she knew how to trick the rack (if it was rack your own) and cubc isn't smart enough to check every rack.

If it was opponent racks, then its worse for cubc because it makes him clueless.

Jim
