OK - so did she place the balls, or did Chris place the balls? If I was gambling with someone, I'd have the option of moving the balls around if I feel the 7 is going in too many times. Was Chris allowed to place the balls, or did she get to place them the same way every time?

I hate "rack your own", BTW. If you want to freeze them, no problem, but I will choose where the balls are placed in the triangle, thank you very much.

i agree if he slowed down and played even he wins, she took the heat alot better. He has no shot giveing her wild balls on the break-she breaks way too good.
 
I give 'em both credit. If I were playin' for $3000 on the net I might get wristlock :D .

That having been said. The racking was not handled properly. The money ball needs to be protected behind the head ball. If I were giving up the 7 and nobody cared, on my breaks it would always be a wing ball, that's for sure ! Nobody seemed to notice, but at least they didn't require a ref :rolleyes: ...Tom

play 'rack you own' when there are spotted balls, NEVER! And even if you did, the opponent calls where the spotted balls go, you don't.

Money matches usually are not 'rack your own' anyway. The opponent racks, or a 3rd person racks.

People have got to stop saying someone is an A or B player because of league handicaps. Like Fats used to say, 'It only counts for the Caassssshh!!

I didn't see them play, but I used to play with the BCA National Women's champion, and I gave her the breaks and the 7, and I would only call her a
B player. If either player could not run 5 racks, they are not B level, IMO.

This isn't a fair analogy. You playing for $3000 is like these two playing for $20. I don't think either one of them would've stressed over $20, camera or no camera. $3000 is on average, a full month's salary. When you've got two single people that only have their income to rely on and probably live pretty close to paycheck to paycheck each week, $3000 is a lot of money. Take away a month's salary from the average person and they're going to suffer. Bills won't get paid in full on time and they could spend months getting caught back up. No, comparing you playing for $3000 to them playing for $3000 is nowhere near the same area code.

You can play however you want when you match up, they set the rules long in advance.

Are you saying that if you can't string 5 racks you are a C player? Or were you talking about running 5 racks during the entire set?

I know absolutely NO "B" players that can run five racks. I don't know what you;ve been smokin, but top players are not going to be the favorite to run five racks in any given inning or even session.

I rarely see pro level players run 5 racks, much less B players. A B should maybe run one or 2 racks in a set. That's a maybe at that.

I see what you are saying, but I would definitely take the "over" on a bet that Shane or Alex would run five in a row in a long set of 9-ball.

I'm a B-player and have strung 7 on a bar box, but that's a whole different story than a brand new 9' Diamond........I completely agree that no true B-player will ever string 5 on a tight Diamond (unless he breaks them all in:D)
 
Kudos to both players for showing up. I imagine it must be a lot of pressure for both players, especially having never played for that amount of $ before.

I've never seen cubc play before, but a few people told me that he played better than what I saw. It's tough to play when the whole room is rooting against you. He looked like he didn't want to even be there, and his arm was shaking even when he was standing, waiting to shoot. It's also tough to fade when your opponent breaks their $ ball in six times.

Mel also plays better than that although her break certainly was working for her. Mel's smart and knows when she has the dead coconuts. After she broke in the 7 ball and then the 9 ball, her confidence boosted up and you could see it in her stroke when she started free wheeling. Mel also played like nothing phased her plus was the crowd favorite. She had nerves of steel. Congratulations on the win, Mel.

Why do posters do this? The damn 7-ball was racked in the second row every time. Hasn't it been said a zillion times already????

So it's time to completely stop talking about where the 7-ball should have been racked.

Where was it racked? It definitely should have been behind the 1-ball if they were gambling!!!

she popped the $ ball in on 6 breaks??? wow I thought it was 4 which is half the race, he couldnt fade her break or composure, will to win, etc. the call 8 would have made it a long race. I liked it, and hope TAR does more things like this. Congrats again to her and the other guy too.
 
come to think of it I wish I could break half that good, man I was 260 pounds with abs all roided out and never had that power. All show no go. I just realized how good that is, I played on that table the day before and it wasnt slipery new cloth either, it was broke in and played right, which just makes that break that much more impressive. WOW!!!! That was strong. Good for her. Man she could play SVB with the 7 and the breaks and win.:eek:
 
I guess everyone has forgotten that Cubc was up 4, on the rack for 5 which he lost. He might have hung the 9-ball, but he hung several balls so I could be confused and "misremembering." Had he gone up 5, the flavor of these threads might have been completely different.

I'm super happy for Melinda, believe me. But, I think it was a closer match-up than what's being said here. Obviously, plenty of online posters didn't pay any attention or didn't see the first hour of play.

it was even when I started to watch and she made 2 $balls on the break in a row, I'm not taking anything away from Cubic, her break was the biggest weapon in her bag. and he appeared to give up a little-I have in spots-i'm not knocking him at all, hell he posted 3 dimes and came to play.
