I was reading the IPT article JAM linked in another thread and came upon Marlon's name. I have not seen that name in a very long time. He was one of the best out there, a top tier pro, yet not a name I heard of in years.

Is he still playing?

Last I heard, he got into politics and was elected to office in the Phillipines.

Before he came to the States, he had a pool room in Philippines. He also was involved in playing snooker from time to time.

I think he may have found the global tournament trail a little too much.

I noticed that when we'd see the Filipinos at tournaments, they would usualy hang out together in a group, find a nice Asian restuarant to eat near by, et cetera, but Marlon usually stayed to himself and did not join them.

Here's a cute shot of Buddy Hall and Marlon at the IPT. :p

One more interesting Marlon factoid is that he has a degree in economics.

I'll bet he realized playing pool professionally was not economically feasible in the long run. :D

Could be, could be hehe

I always liked him, too bad he's not playing in events anymore.

He still plays

He still plays a lot, just does not travel out of the country to compete

Marlon Manalo is actually the Barangay Captain in his home town. Barangay is a division within a city. Each barangay has a Captain. Here in Angeles City where I live, and in my barangay, Balibago, that position carries an opportunity to earn alot of money. But in any case that election can lead to bigger things.

In my opinion Marlon was the best eight ball player in the IPT. His eight ball thinking was superb.

Marlon makes it to main draw of World Championship in Qatar

Well, he is back in action. He just made it through the very tough qualification rounds. Had to do this the hard way because he was not seeded. Won a seat to the main draw in his first try. Obviously, there is still some gas left in the tank. Hope he does well in this tournament. One of my favourite players to watch.
