I asked Bill about his "Chicago" Style Cues a couple of years ago ..
Here is his reply..
The public named the cues ‘’Chicago‘’ Style .
I made a cue that had the butt sleeve on reverse of the points , something
about it I liked , so I made eight or nine , all with different materials
and inlays , I made them to display at the ‘’Willard’s’’ tournament in Chicago
at the ‘’Peasant Run Resort’’.
This was the meeting location for the formation of the America Cue
Association. As I was checking in, John Wright asked if he could see what I had brought , at the same time a Japanese gentleman asked if he could look also.
We went to the room and I unpacked the cues and John wanted all of them , so did the oriental gentleman.
The answer was to let each have half , with the understanding that I could display them during the tournament .
After I got home the phone stared to ring with people saying they wanted a Chicago Style cue , I asked what do you mean , a "Chicago Style "?
The answer was , ‘’You know , like the cues you showed at the ’’Willard’s’’ in Chicago !"
And that’s how the ‘’Chicago Style’’ came to be.
So the naming of the ‘’Chicago Style" was by the public , not I.
Sincerely
Bill
