What's a chicago style pool cue

It's a 4 point cue where the points are cut in over a band of other material (wood, ivory, rings, etc) above and below the wrap. Bill Schick was the first to develop this style....see the linked images. Hope this helps. Thanks to Bill G (cornerstone) for the linked pic.

I've heard of this description a couple of times, but what exactly is it?

I'll tell you,
but then we'll have to foreclose on your grandmother, kidnap your family and sell them in mexico, burn down your house, tie you up and throw you in the trunk of your own car and drive it into the river...

A chicago style cue is crooked as the day is long....
Is illegally funded with swindled taxpayer money...
The wood was smuggled in by a former mob boss who owns 32 sweatshops in Honduras...
The irish linen came as a gift from the fraternal order of police, who stole it from an uncooperative homeless man after they shot him....
The ivory ring is actual from the jawbone of a former governor who died in the federal pen....
The cue was constructed in a shop that is disguised as a park district maintenance shed, that was built on the site of former polish cemetery...

nothing unusual here. move along.

Makes me wonder which part of the country produced the greatest group of cuemakers from the past? Feels like it would be from the midwest (IL) to the e coast.

Bill Schick and the "Chicago" Style

I asked Bill about his "Chicago" Style Cues a couple of years ago ..
Here is his reply..

The public named the cues ‘’Chicago‘’ Style .
I made a cue that had the butt sleeve on reverse of the points , something
about it I liked , so I made eight or nine , all with different materials
and inlays , I made them to display at the ‘’Willard’s’’ tournament in Chicago
at the ‘’Peasant Run Resort’’.

This was the meeting location for the formation of the America Cue
Association. As I was checking in, John Wright asked if he could see what I had brought , at the same time a Japanese gentleman asked if he could look also.
We went to the room and I unpacked the cues and John wanted all of them , so did the oriental gentleman.
The answer was to let each have half , with the understanding that I could display them during the tournament .

After I got home the phone stared to ring with people saying they wanted a Chicago Style cue , I asked what do you mean , a "Chicago Style "?
The answer was , ‘’You know , like the cues you showed at the ’’Willard’s’’ in Chicago !"

And that’s how the ‘’Chicago Style’’ came to be.
So the naming of the ‘’Chicago Style" was by the public , not I.

Sincerely
Bill

Facts and sources?

Nice story Cuecaps but Mr. Bonds is much more believeable. You may want to check your facts and sources.

Well, I learned something today.

Not only did I not know what it meant, I had never heard the term before as far as I can remember.
