Whats the best this, Whats the best that, Oh my God!!!!!!!!!!!

I have to disagree with on that one, I think electrical tape wrapped around the handle works better.:)

And as you know. sometimes they are under those linen wrap.
Over the over-the-counter epoxy even.
I know a local maker Castle Cue got sued for electrical tape under the linen one time.
He's out of biz now.
Best tip ever made was the original Moori. No fkkn doubt about it.
I should have invested in them instead some stupid stock.

After reading hundreds of posts on whats the best cue(almost every one made has been "The Best"and also almost "Every tip is the best") if I was an absolute beginner I would be so confused I would not know what to buy.
What I do know is that my inexpensive Lucasi with the stock shaft and a triangle tip works just fine for me. Will this set up work for everyone? Nope. That's why we have choices and share opinions so we can make at least a reasonably educated decision.
Now in the words of Rodney King "Can't we all just get along?"

lucasi's are the best budget cue.they play good enough to do anything you need 'em to do

I am very surprised he is out of business, after all I have seen over the last 8 years doing cue repair. But, I suppose there are allot of very inventive people out their, I even heard of a guy who used the Skin of a close relative who died for the wrap of his personal playing cue.:eek: I would never re-wrap that cue man, no friggen way!!:)

You just never know Joey, you just never Know!!!!!:D

The best joints come from Jamaica.

I will say oh yes Mon'

I love the tight fit when it goes together, the smoothness when you hit it and how it makes you feel when you . Oh sorry what were you talking about .. ???

The only thing i will say on this subject is you are probably better off buying a custom then a production cue.You can get some customs cheaper then productions and good chance for the cue to increase or at least hold it's value.

Well Craig you kinda hit fairly close to home for me. I have been buying cues lately. Not because I think it will make my game any better. But because I didn't get any help when I first started. I bought a cheap Players cue first. It plays well, It's a wrapped sneakey with a collarless joint. I found quickly it hit too soft for me. So I bought a McDermott M71D. It hit too stiff and the tip is too soft. I went and bought a Jacoby basic merrywidow. It played fantastic. I then bought a cheap custom from a fellow here on AZB. It plays even better than the Jacoby. But here's the rub (literally). I find linen wraps feel like sand paper on my hands. All my cues have linen wraps.

I went to the SBE and bought a nice Rat cue without a wrap. It plays OK but is just a little too soft. I traded the Jacoby for another Jacoby without a wrap. It plays OK but with a 5/16 pin it doesn't hit as well as the older one with a radial pin in it.

I'm learning what feels good to me. I'm not looking for a magic bullet. I'm only looking for a cue that hits like I want at a weight I like. I have a Josey sneakey on order. It should be just the right hit and weight/balance for me.

I never got any help from my local players. Never got to shoot anyone else's cues (no one was interested in letting me hit thier cues. Exept one fellow who let me hit his custom wrapless. Which showed me where I needed to head). Any question on what to get was answered with "Get a Meucci". I know a Meucci will be too soft for me. But that is all I got. I found this board and just reading other people's responses has helped me a lot. I look at these respones with eyes wide open. I KNOW it is opinion. And it may not be what I need. But it helped weed out a lot of bad choices.

I do understand where you are coming from I truly do. I see it every time I log in here. There is no magic cue, tip or anything else. I know any problem I have is not my equipment. It's me. I'm only searching for the right bowl of porridge if you will. I'm pretty confident this Josey will be just what I need to feel comfortable with my cue. If not I'll keep looking till I find the cue that fits me.

As always a post from you that is mostly meat. If no one else will I will thank you for your posts. You have a ton of good adviceand information to share. I thank you for this.

Mark, I have been accused of berating people, and many other things throughout this thread and I am glad that some one got something out of it, that makes it all worth while. I think my biggest problem my be the way I express my thought's, because it certainly is not my intentions. I have only been trying to save people money they really do not need to spend.

Thanks again for your kind words, and I am certain you will find what your looking for. But once you do, never let it go because far to many people change their cue when they are playing well thinking they need a change, and they are partly right. However the change they are looking for is not what is in their hands, it is their hands, their eye's, and their brain because whatever changed is within them not their equipment.

If I can help you in the future please shoot me a PM>

you thought your rat cue was too soft? i tried one of his sneakys and i thought it played pretty well! i bet ryan would make you a stiffer shaft if you asked him to.

Pool, yea it is just a tad too soft in the shaft. My Jacoby is quite a bit stiffer. The Rat plays very well BTW. It has excellant balance. A fantastic finish and just plays well. I just find it a little too flexible for my liking. I don't hate it BTW. I am very seriously thinking of getting an OB classic and sending it to Ryan to have it mated up with the cue though. It is a KEEPER. Not gonna get rid of it. I really like the cue. Just want it a little stiffer. I also am gonna try a Tiger Emerald on it before I do anything drastic. It's got an Everest on it now. I like Everests. But an Emerald may stiffen it up just enough to dial it in. It is close to my ideal. Maybe a tip change will make all the difference.

I shot this butt at the SBE with a classic on it at the OB booth. Royce even had a go with it. He wanted to try one of Ryan's cues with his shaft on it. I liked it. Felt fantastic to me. That is why I'm looking at the OB shaft. I may also contact him about a stiffer shaft. You don't have his contact info do you? I could sure use it.

Craig I just reread you last post. Right on the moola. I shoot every Sunday night with a bunch of freinds at the local Lithuanian Club. There is (APA) 2 sixes, 1 seven, 2 fives and a four. A month ago I was shooting and almost keeping up with the sixes. And the new session started and poof. It was gone. Jumping up, not double checking the angles on tough cut shots. Stroke side to side. All mental stupidity. Went from a 3 to a 2 in 8 ball. I went back last Sunday and asked for and got help. Ironed out a pile of the problems.

Fast forward to Monday (this Monday). We had no one to put in. So I got chucked in against a strong 5. Pulled my head out of my hiney and took the bastage too the wall. Ran him right to the wire Hill-Hill. I had only 2 balls left when he pulled a miraculous 3 cushion bank and dropped the 8. Last game and if he missed I had a great position to run out on him. I played great. Made him pay for every mistake. Left him with tough leaves when I missed. I'm still stoked over it. You are right. Mental awareness is key. BTW all My cues except 1 cheap Nitro cue I got for a spare break cue. And the Mcdermott are keepers. Those 2 just will not fit what I want. So I'll sell or trade them eventually. I'm better informed because of people like you who spend time here. Now after the Josey arrives I'm only going to buy cues cause they interest me. And I may want to add them to my small collection. I like cues. So I'll spend some of my mad money on neat looking cues. Heck I'm looking at a wrap less Heubler right now. The price is right. Looks neat, may get it for grins and giggles.

you think an ob shaft is going to be stiffer than the rat shaft?

Nice thread idea, and even better discussion (if possible.), which sparked a thought process for me.

The Reason I love this game (or, the history of me).

I'm a competitor, period. In a previous life, my sport of choice was (now don't laugh) slow pitch softball. When I started playing the game, everybody hit the same ball, with the same bat and fielded it with the same ball. To get better you had to put in the time, so that's what I did. I would get up at 3:30 am to go to the gym and work out, go to work, and then if I didn't have a game I would go someplace and hit until my hands bled.

This dedication got me to a point where I was playing for fully sponsored teams, traveling all over the place to play and even getting paid "travel money" from time to time. Then It Happened! Some guy by the name of Ray DeMarini invented the multi-walled bat and before you knew it every pencil armed jacka$$ could hit a ball out of the park. So all of the hours that I put into learning to hit the long ball ('cause chicks dig it.) was trumped by a $300.00 bat. The fun in the game went away.

So, what does all of that have to do with billiards/pool? Well, just this. It really doesn't matter how much a player spends on equipment, they still have to be able to execute. They still have to be able to deal with the voices in their head and the movement of others around the table. They still have to put in the time.

I'm not a great player by any means, but in the 1.5 years that I've been playing I've spent countless hours drilling, asking questions, watching better players and even matching up where I had no business matching up.

The morale to this story? A $4,000.00 custom cue isn't going to beat me, it's still me vs. them and that's the way it should be.
