What's the highest TPA ever for an entire 9B match?

Earl Strickland beat Johnny Archer 9-0 at the Turning Stone on table 8 in 2011. Earl didn't want to play on the stream table and he gave Johnny 2 kicks shots the whole match so I can only assume Earl shot a 1.000!!

Too bad it wasnt streamed but the whole place went nuts when the last 9 ball fell.

There is a Johnny Archer/Nick Varner match where Archer wins 13-1 and shoots a .989. There is a Buddy Hall match too where he shoots a .976,but have yet to see it. Pat said that one is the record for a race to 11. Efren has another Derby match where he runs over Jamie Baraks too. Tommy D.

Wade Crane's run out against Mr Hall was in the final match of a major championship,,and that 1000 has never been equaled. Mr. Crane won the lag for the last match , broke the balls and proceeded to run the session out , in a race to Eleven. Bill Lawson (who helped Wade with his game and break when he was young) ran the final session out in a tournament in Roanoke Va against Allen Hopkins back in the early 80's. Bill was pushing 60 when he won the Tourney . I'm thinking that race was to Nine,,not sure though.
How would Lawson matched up with the players the quality of Lassiter. I saw Larson play in Kansas City in the late 60’s. When sober, he was the best I’ve ever seen.

I was the tournament director for that event in Atlantic City (Resorts International Hotel I believe). The final was two out of three sets, each set a Race to Seven. Buddy was the huge betting favorite and that pissed Crane off. He won the lag and proceeded to break and run the first seven racks to win set number one. In the second set he also won easily, something like 7-3 to win the tournament. So yes, he played a perfect set in the initial race to seven. And he played near perfect in set two as well. I'm sure his overall TPA for the two sets was in the .950 range.

Bob Vanover broke and ran nine racks to win the Texas State Championship so it was a longer match. Pretty impressive since he did it in the Finals. Bob was probably the best "amateur" pool player I've ever seen. He never followed the Pro Tour, only playing in select events when he could get time off from his job managing a large furniture store. But he was just as good as the very best players in the country at the time. They had to ban him from playing in the BCA Seniors division since he kept winning it year after year. And these were big fields of bar table veterans, usually over 150 players. Bob was that good!

Earl ran eleven racks in a row on very tough equipment to win the million dollars. He did make two nines on the break during the first six games before I started racking. He eventually won the match against Nick Mannino 15-2 as I recall. There have been several nine rack runs in major tournaments including by Efren (against Bustamante I think) and Morro Paez (against Earl) in WPC matches. As a side note, Landon Shuffett put a 15-3 beatdown on Earl in the Bigfoot Ten Ball tournament held in Tunica back in 2014 I believe. I watched all but the first three or four games of that match and Landon never missed a ball, a safety or position from that point on. His only errors happened early in the match when Earl was ragging on him while Landon was at the table. I put a stop to that and that's when Landon gave Earl the worst beating I ever saw anyone put on him. He tied Earl in knots, simply playing perfect pool and shut Earl up, after he had been bragging about "killing" this kid prior to the match being played. I'm sure his TPA would have been in the high .900's, if it had been done. It was one of the best played matches I have ever seen. I wish to God we had that match on video. That would be epic!

There is one other match I must mention. It was at the World Ten Ball held in Manila years ago. Lee Vann was losing badly to a very good Vietnamese player, something like 9-3 going to eleven. He proceeded to put on a shotmaking display like no other I had ever seen. Lee Vann ran out from everywhere and anywhere to come back and win 11-10. I was so enthralled with this match that I requested the TV producer (it was on a Philippine TV channel) to please make me a copy of this match, and he did. I have copies of that match and if you would like one, PM me for details.

P.S. I also have the aforementioned matches from the WPC with Efren and Paez running all those racks. You can find them on my website.

Landon beat Earl at Tunica in '12. Kid played flawless and all Earl could do was take the whippin.

Didn't Johnny, player of the decade 90's, play an whole tournament error free...and came in second, iirc.

BD covered it, I think. I'm probably wrong about the details.

Bill Lawson was a noted hustler back in the 1950's, 60's and early 70's. He was probably about the same age as Lassiter. I would see him every year in Johnston City and he never played in the tournament. He was there looking for pigeons who would only play a non tournament player. I heard through the pool grapevine back then that Lawson was one of the best players in the country, and all the other top guys avoided him. I never saw anyone challenge him to play at JC. He was one of the guys I kept my eye on when he was in the back room. I was very much aware of the respect he got from the other players.

Was it that long ago? You might be right. I thought it was a little more recent, like 2014 or 15.

Oh, one other match that belongs on here. It was a money game held after hours at the Bicycle Casino back in the early 1990's between Johnny Archer and Francisco Bustamante. They played a Race to Thirteen for some serious cash (like 5K each). Johnny broke and ran the entire set, 13-0! Of course he thought Busti was done after that, but he was wrong. Busti said flip for the break and they played a second set that Francisco won. Johnny quit after that, breaking even. They talked about that match for years afterward. It's the most racks run that I know about being 100% certain.

I was there. Tunica was only in '12 and '13.

Thank you for correcting me. I'm getting old and forget dates quite a bit. I don't forget the matches though :)! I've seen some damn good ones, going all the way back to Worst beating the gaff One Pocket game in JC in the mid 60's and Billy Cardone outrunning the nuts while giving Bucktooth the six ball at the Stardust in the late 60's. Billy played some amazing pool that night, winning over twenty grand playing for 300 a game! This was at "push out" 9-Ball, Tooth's specialty.

I miss push-out 9b.

That match was played from about 1 am to 3 am (east coast time) on Friday morning, July 27, 2012.
The score was 15-4.
Landon missed shots in Games 3, 8 (twice), 11, 15, 18, and 19.
Landon fouled on missed kicks in Games 2 and 5 and scratched on the break in Games 4 and 7.
The match is available on YouTube.

Back in Bills prime , Lassiter in a race to 11 would have his hands full,,meaning he wouldn't be the sure thing. If they played all day long Mr Lassiter might be the victor , but that might not be a sure thing either,,Some of the best players that ever came out of the South would all say the same thing Bill Irving Lawson was one of the best ever seen when he got in gear,,Wade Crane told me that many times. I saw Wade arrive in Greensboro one evening to play Jerry Brock with Billy giving up the 8. Billy ran the first 8 racks out of the gate and played safe and then ran the next 3 for the match for 500 a session (1979 money) The next session Billy hit him with a 6 and the final results were about the same as the first. Brock was sitting there and started talking to Eddie O'Connell afterwards to play ,,Eddie asked for the 8 and Jerry did a hand gesture after that too show the 8 wasn't going to happen.

Vanover did that on an 8-footer iirc .

Jay, you really should setup a Youtube channel and might as well load your collection and monetize it .
