What's the most $$ you've played for?

I was skeptical when someone told me they taught math in Kentucky, but now I'll believe anything.

They do, but it's called cipherin in them parts. That's where I learnt me some cipherin.

PoolBum is from Kentucky and has played for .35 a game before, but can't run three balls if you jack up the bet to $1.

Agreed.

4 words: The Rack in Detroit

Agreed. And the highest roller at The Rack at that time,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Cornbread Red. And,,,,,,,,probably with Jew Paul's money.

Hmm. I don't usually like to play for money, but I used to know a guy in college who loved it. I think he had it in for me since he would always come at me hard to play for something. I would love to get him pissed by offering $1 per game differential, race to 5 in 9-ball. He might win $2 bucks, or vice-versa. Well, we stayed in touch a short time after graduation and played somewhat regularly. One day after work I just felt like I never felt before...I would play him for any stakes he wanted. When I showed up he belted out his usual, "How much we playin' for tonight," to which I responded, "Whatever you want, but I need to leave at 10pm." Hey, it was a work night! We ended up playing 9-ball for $50/set with each set being a race to 7. I dusted hime 7-2 in the first set, then the second set was tighter at 7-6. It was then 10pm and I walked out with his $100 bucks. I tucked it away since I knew he would want to play again for it...and lost it back when that day came. It was still a thrill to take a c-note off him that night.

Although I have had a pretty hard stance on money play...I am starting to think about playing for the green a little more. I just don't have as much fun playing alone and sometimes you can't get anybody to play for nothing.

20 Euros per set was my highest, and I managed to break even. Against a better player at that. It was too late to continue.

I see some fabulous figures here, thousands per set. May I ask people how do you handle that kind of pressure? Do you even care?:D
I know if I had to play for a substantial amount of money (amount I cannot afford to lose), I'd pass out at right there at the table.

High stakes action...

The old saying is still true, if you can't afford to lose it, you shouldn't be playing. Most I ever won was back in Milwaukee, took $2500 off some guy who thought he could beat me that night. His false confidence must have come from winning a good insurance settlement. Started out at $5/game 8ball. Finished at $500/game. Only game I lost was at the $250/game level, I scratched on the eight in that game. Guess he must have got a little hopeful after that because he wanted to double the bet. Never lost another game at that level. Too bad I don't play much anymore.

Most I've ever played for was either the time I played for blood or for world domination.... I won the first, but lost for world domination... God still has that one in control. (he shit in the 9 on a combo)

Anybody want to buy a pint of AB+?

Played $200 a game 1P (won $1,300)
Made $1,000 playing $20 a game 1p (17 hours!!!!)
Played a single game of 8ball for $1,500 (after getting up $1,500) and won
Played a few sets of 9-ball over the $1,000 mark.
Biggest score to date: $4,000 (3,000 in 8-ball, $1,000 in poker - same guy)
Biggest Tournament Win: $1,000 - Florida Seminole bar-box 9-ball tournament. I got 3rd (lost to Cory Deuel hill-hill!!!) and then got 5th in the follow-up (two tournaments, one non-Seminole, one mixed).

On the negative side, I have $1,100 in the AIR (people shot air barrels at me) right now.

I also lose, a lot, but I'm not going to talk about that right now... :(

You must be one helluva player....

One game of 8 for 120 ( I think thats right)...
Not much of a money player here honestly.

I win more then I lose when moneys in the game...but its not that often and leaning my way before the 1st break.

Overall...I might be up 1500 lifetime.

For me...winning is a relief, and losing cash is a feeling I can't stand.I stay off off it unless I'm feel I can at least break even.

I pride myself in being the only player in Arizona that didn't lose money to the Boys from Traverse City, Michigan when they came through! (I was the fall guy that they let win so they could clean house on the rest of the state...:D ). Thanks RM!

The only reason I checked this thread out was to see if I was right about no old scuffs or players answering this question. I knew or was pretty sure, Jay, Freddy, JAM/Keith, John Henderson, Humphrey, John Schmidt or any of the nowaday players would truthfully answer the question. Might be interesting but thus far nada.

The most I've ever played for is $2K per game 9 ball.

Oh to hear from above what the most money Cornbread ever played for or from us the living, Jack Cooney. It is amazing how much money was gambled per game in the 70s compaired to sets today.

It is amazing compared to the 70's. Very few even carry much money anymore, which I can't blame them. Things have changed though.

I was up there last year at the Hall of Fame Billiards and they still alk about Red, Jew Paul, and the Airplane man as if it were yesterday. It is a fun place.

At the time it seemed like alot because it was all I had 20 years ago, $250/game playing snooker, $400 set 9-ball,

a year ago i played 8 ball for 200 & 300 with some friends who couldnt play in the Mansion at the MGM between craps sessions-I won about $800, it was friendly, not gambling, they figured it out pretty fast i was stalling the best i could(missing ALOT and losing games etc. i stall good) i was up over $1000 for a while I tried to raise the bet, i ended up winning $800. They play craps for more $$$ than you can imagine(for these guys it wouldnt mean a thing to lose $50K playing pool or ping-pong for that matter) I just couldnt set the hook, it was close. They had the $$$, they know I do as well so I had a shot at a score. but thankfully now days it isnt as much as $5 was back in the day, the $800 not the $50K.

i'm playing again but have no interest in gambling like i did when I was 20 years old-I'm 40 now. Unless its like the thing above and that was just because there was a table and a bunch of gamblers, just a coincidence.
