Whats the story on Dechaine/Archer match?

Someone said because Mike advanced so far in the 1pocket that he didn't have time to play Archer.

I heard them negotiating over the rack... Archer wanted traditional racking by a third party and Dechaine wanted Magic Rack by just the two of them... Supposedly Archer was weary of pattern racking and wanted to take that out of the match and let their real ability and moving do the talking.

Yes, that was on Tuesday 1/27. I think the real problem was that they waited so long. The racking was a detail that had to be agreed to before the Derby. Their match should have taken place in the opening, not closing days of the Derby, as neither is a banks or one pocket specialist (strangely enough, Dechaine came 13th in banks and 2nd in one pocket, but few saw it coming). They'd surely be more available for a matchup in the Derby's early days, but didn't arrange it that way.

My opinion is that Dechaine agreeing to use the Magic Rack should have been more than enough for Archer's camp.

I agree. Archer wanting a 3rd party to rack with regular rack = I don't want to play. Nobody is going to agree to a neutral racker.

agree.

small details and then Mike's success in the 1p def got in the way.

he told me that time was becoming tough due to match schedules and that he was very focused on the tourney.

I was looking forward to this and hope it will sometime soon.

best,

I don't blame Archer for not using the MR . For 1 you can't satisfy Mike and Archer would have to fight a second battle over every rack until he gave in. Screw that. Neutral racket and no one has an advantage

It's done in the finals of most all major pro events.

And nobody pays an $10,000 entry fee for a tournament. They risk $500 to win much more. It's gambling and it's very different. Put up 10k for one set and trust a "neutral" racker isn't betting on the other guy. lol
