I've had a Pay Pal account since 2004.....I have made literally hundreds of transactions and spent thousands of dollars with them...
Just this week I bought one cue and sold 2 cues....One transaction on Monday, one on Tuesday and one on Wednesday....
So the one on Wednesday I received $198.50 for a cue I sold.....BUT....Pay Pal said they are holding back the funds for 21 days to see if the buyer receives it and he gives me a positive rating ..HUH??? I have a 100% rating for 82 transactions from e-bay...I have 100% rating on AZ for 19 transactions.... So I call and argue I'm a great customer and have a fantastic record and they say "So. Wonder if you don't send him the cue after he pays for it ?" WHAT? I said are you nuts. Look at my record...She said . "sorry sir. Thats what we are doing". So I said once this transaction is over I will cancel my Pay Pal account....She did not care...
Anybody else having any problems with Pay Pal lately ?????

I use PP a lot and haven't had any problems. I keep hearing weird stories like this though, so I'm beginning to wonder if its only time before they bite me. Maybe PP has run its course & its time for everyone to move on...the fact that she didn't care about your threat to leave speaks volumes.

Paypal

When I have tried to talk to the people at Paypal in the past... it is as if they don't understand English. No matter what you try to explain to them you get the same response. They could care less. It is the worst experience I have ever had trying to explain a situation. They just don't care!

I wish there was an alternative that everyone could switch to easily
and put the fkrs out of business.

....or maybe you hit the nail on the head. Maybe they don't understand English. It is not hard to train someone to say, "hello mr so n so, how may I help you, pause, let me check, pause, I'm sorry sir, we cannot do that for you, good day and always remember Paypal loves you." anything not fitting this model just gets a blank or difficult response. Try it. Be nice. Ask them where they are, how's the weather. Do you travel much there? Absolutely, no words available for these questions means the company doesn't care. Then play a game trying to trick the person into saying he'll put money in your account or something...great fun!

It is something new they are doing to protect the buyers, as soon as I was given positive feedback funds were released. Outside transactions not through Ebay are not held from what I have experienced.

I sent $14.00 to a member here for a raffle. He pm me said he got to pay-pal ok. I got a e-mail from pay-pal said they put the payment back in my account because I failed to register properly. I pm the AZ member an sent him another $14.00. He then pm me back an said his records showed that he has the first payment. So I canceled to 2nd. payment. Pay pal told me that they could not explain this that they were sorry for the mix up. An earlier this year I tried to buy a cue here sent payment, pay pal told me money was sent an member did not accept money? Never got that cue an left I know a bad rep. I fell pay-pal can hurt you rep. But what else can you pay with? When it works its great, I've bought 8 or 10 items here with no problems but every time I use it I'm skittish.

I wonder how much the interest is for 21 days on millions of dollars. And it is millions of dollars every day. This is an old bookkeeping trick used by a lot of businesses. Just riding your money for a few days.

There is something wrong with your story. For one, many buyers never leave a feedback even if they are completely happy. Your other transactions went fine I assume. If the person told you that, they may have been speculating or reacted to you because of things like "I am canceling my account" mean nothing. In fact if the person said, I will be happy to take care of canceling your account for you sir, you would be left stuttering tying to figure out how to say I changed my mind. That kind of stuff get you nowhere. I have like 9000 paypal transactions with no problems. There is certainly a reason why your money didn't come through. The 21 day thing, did that come in an email or the phone person told you that?

You can fix this by calling the customer. There is a chance they may have not gotten your name correct. This puts the money in limbo. It just goes no where. I have had this happen dozens of times. It usually consists of a customer calling mad that they didn't get their item. When I tell them I never got the payment, when they check they mistyped my my name or something. Call the customer, ask them to cancel the transaction and do it again. Make sure that all the info is correct and I bet it completes right away.

It's not a mistake and you can't "fix it".

It's an Ebay/Paypal mutual policy. They put it in a couple years ago however it only applies to what they consider to be 'high risk' transactions so you may are may not ever see it in action. Has to do with a number of factors ranging from membership age, transactions and feedback and whatever other voodu BS they want to look at.

I'm so sick of Ebay I can't even tell you.

this happened to me too, if you sell on eBay paypal can randomly hold your money until the buyer leaves positive feedback

if they don't leave feedback, then you don't get the money, i even emailed and called showing proof of delivery confirmation past 3 days (another method they say can lift the hold) and it didn't matter because the buyer wasn't replying to anything.

just another reason to try to sell your stuff on AZB rather than eBay

Sounds just like the Paypal that I stopped using years ago! Funny now because E Bay is not really an auction site anymore either, the large majority of inventory is just being sold like a store. Paypal & E Bay are just acting like most monopoly businesses have in the past. Their opinion is we can do whatever we like, and they do... I rarely even look at E Bay anymore and closed out Paypal when E Bay bought them..

I just sold something on eBay for $115, and the same thing happened to me. The money is being held for 21 days. I thought it was the buyer who was putting a hold on the funds. I shipped immediately and it was in California so it only took a day or two to get there, but the money is still on hold. I'll see what happens. If it isn't cleared up soon, I will withdraw most of my remaining money from Paypal. I keep a pretty good four figure account with them to pay a lot of bills.

I know there is a company called GPal. I made an account, but have not used it yet. It just sucks because everyone has PayPal. Also, Ebay owns PayPal, so I do not even know if you could use a different company to pay for your Ebay purchases. Well, you probably could, but it would have to be a seperate transaction between you and he seller.

I have not looked into GPal to much, but we do need to find another company to handle our payments.

By the way, I just received an email from PayPal the other day about 'personal' payments. Funny, I received 1 'personal' payment in the last week or so, and they said something. There has been weeks were I might have received 15 or so 'personal' payments, and they never said anything.

Funny that she said to me."how would you like it if you paid and never received what you paid for ?"
Well if the buyer gets the item and doesn't leave a feedback, he keeps the item and you get no money. How is that a logical system?? Doesn't make sense to me ??

They want their cut, and there is no commission on personal payments, as you know. It won't be long before they start charging a commission on these payments also. You can bet on that!

Not wanting to be a busybody but would you give your selling name on ebay. I would be curious to see if anything looks like it could trigger this such as return policy etc. It seems to be an exception.

If you go to the help area of ebay and just type in "21 day hold" you can read about the policy.
here is a little of what it says

When a buyer sends you a payment through PayPal, the money is usually available in your PayPal account right away. However, in some cases, the payment might be "pending" for a few days, or it might be held by PayPal for up to 21 days. Find out more about

Why is my PayPal payment "pending"?

A PayPal purchase can appear as "Pending" in My eBay or Selling Manager for several reasons:

*

The buyer paid with an electronic check (or eCheck). The system will display "Pending" until the check clears—usually in about 3 business days.
*

A payment was sent with an unconfirmed address, and the seller needs to log in to PayPal to accept the payment. Find out how to claim a PayPal payment.
*

Your payment is being temporarily held by PayPal.

Once the payment is completed, the status in My eBay or Selling Manager will change to "Paid." If the payment fails, the status changes to show that the transaction is unpaid, and the buyer can send another payment.

If you have a PayPal question, please contact PayPal Customer Service.

How can I avoid having payments held?

Here are some things you can do to avoid having payments held:

*

Improve your DSRs
*

Work with your buyer to avoid disputes, claims, and chargebacks. If a case has been opened with you, the sooner you work to resolve the case, the sooner you'll be able to use the funds (as long as the buyer is satisfied or eBay finds in your favor).
*

Process your orders right away and ship quickly using a service that provides tracking and delivery confirmation
*

Communicate with your buyer as soon as your item sells and keep in contact with your buyer until you're sure he or she is satisfied with the transaction
*

Make sure you confirm the address and phone number on your eBay and PayPal accounts and update them if they change.
*

Verify your PayPal account and keep the financial information on your PayPal account up-to-date

When will PayPal release the payment hold?

The amount of time PayPal holds payments varies, but the hold may be released sooner if:

1.

We can confirm that the item was delivered.
2.

The buyer leaves positive Feedback. (This applies only to eBay items.)

When PayPal holds a payment it will be kept in your account as a pending balance. After the hold is released, the money will be available for withdrawal.

To get access to this money more quickly, process your order right away and communicate with your customers early and often.

Sometimes PayPal just doesn't make any sense. Last year, I sent a payment to Jimmy (Uncle Waldo) and PayPal sent him an email telling him not to ship, because the payment was under review. It was just a small payment for goods (here on AZ, not eBay). They held the payment for 24 hours, with no explanation at all. I've never had any problems at all with PayPal other than this one strange incident, so there was no reason at all for the payment to be "under review."

I wonder how much money they make on the float (holding other people's money).

As for eBay - I have used them twice and never will again.
